Have Scouts said anything about Assistant leader 'Baloo' Challenor?

Just wondering whether the Scout Association have made any sort of announcement re their assistant leader being charged. They will have been told by the police at the very latest when he was charged so they have had plenty of time to prepare a statement

Did anyone have a response? I emailed and have had none. Might follow up by phone (children in scouts and am a leader)

I know for a fact that this thread has been seen by scouts or someone closely connected. I’ve heard it from very high places, but still nothing.

Fucking A. People who are shit scared of adult men telling them how to do their safeguarding.

Scouts! Step up. Ffs.

It is odd that no comment has been made. You would think they would at least have done a back covering statement about current standards.
Perhaps their solicitors have advised them to keep quiet.

Scout Leaders being child molesters used to be a stereotype, didn't it?

carceralfeminist · 04/09/2018 19:46

Has there not been any kind of statement to the local community yet? To reassure parents?

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 04/09/2018 20:04

Scout Leaders being child molesters used to be a stereotype, didn't it?

Think they are still very much trying to shake that off. Which you would think would involve incredibly robust safeguarding. But here we are...waiting...

I've had no response to my email, I'll be chasing tomorrow.

TimeLady · 04/09/2018 21:20

Maybe they are unable to offer reassurances, so are keeping schtum instead.....

HotRocker · 05/09/2018 20:29

Bump

MargaretDribble · 05/09/2018 20:36

No reply then Lonny?

MorbidMuch · 05/09/2018 21:09

I've just seen this (quite possibly unrelated) update from Girlguiding: Statement on Safeguarding published on 3rd September.

They've decided to launch a review of historic safeguarding incidents to find out if anything was missed and how they could improve safeguarding procedures.

SweetheartNeckline · 05/09/2018 21:48

Not had a response here either.

Doyenne · 11/09/2018 15:39

Guess the scout org policy of saying nothing works, as there's been no follow up. I find it disturbing the press haven't explored that aspect at all, or the gymnastics club or anywhere else he may have had access to children.

Maybe they can't comment, if there are other cases under review.

MnerXX · 11/09/2018 17:07

Only really just seen this thread but I have sent an email as well (as a Scout parent also).

littleducks · 27/09/2018 20:02

I had a reply last week but it initially went into my spam so it found it now. It confirms that he wasn't a scout leader for 'some years before he came to police attention.' I do think they missed a trick not making a statement of that at the time.

BeenHereAWhileNow · 29/09/2018 01:02

Anyone else heard from scouts? No longer got kids there so I can't contact them and they probably wouldn't answer me as my last exchange with them on a different safeguarding concern had ended up with me informing them I was keeping the full exchange and whilst I very much hoped it wouldn't be needed I would provide it as evidence they had been warned and did nothing if it was needed

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 29/09/2018 12:35

I got exactly the same message as @littleducks with some generic safeguarding info.
