Santa's little helpers - helping a sHero cover the country before October

Soooo it seems that the amazing StickerWoman's campaign has already had an impact. Given the censorship of women who have concerns about self-identification this does seem to be one of the only ways for drawing the general public's attention to the consultation on the change in law (that closes in just over 7 weeks!!!).

It seems to me that SW needs the help of all MNers who are gender critical. If every one of them posted even one sticker a day I suspect that would have a huge impact.

It's really pretty easy to do once you get started - have a few ready to go in your handbag (complete with the corner of the double sided sticky tape bent back) and every time you see an opportunity.....do it! It's amazing how many opportunities there are when you are out and about each day (bus stops, changing rooms, loos, car parks, lifts etc etc). And really the chances of getting "caught" are extremely slim (there's really not CCTV on every angle of everywhere - we're not in 1984 yet although we soon could feel closer to it when it comes to our use of language if the law is changed). And even then if challenged a sensible conversation can ensue (to explain why there is a need for the stickers).

Some printables here (all you need is a printer, scissors and double sided sticky tape): www.dropbox.com/sh/4n362ya99atnuhq/AAAFs1-fP1Xu96liCC4OZmN-a?dl=0

Just to be clear it was another amazing MNer who created the dropbox and produced the printables - thank you!!

There's quite a lot of material here! Thanks Smile

IAmSproutycus · 27/08/2018 08:42

Righty-ho, count me in. I need some help please everyone. I don't have a colour printer, but happy to pay if someone can help me out. Not sure how we do that safely, but sure there's a way (swapping black briefcases at a park bench?? 😁)

Ucantarguewistupid · 27/08/2018 08:44

I'm in.

IAmSproutycus · 27/08/2018 08:52

I'll do the black and white knob tonight under cover of darkness. Husband has got the B&W printer out and is joking about aiding and abetting. Snort.

Lefthanddown · 27/08/2018 11:32

I don't have a colour printer either. So, just use coloured paper and pick a sticker that can be printed in b&w. It's effective enough, given that most will be pulled down, though some of mine have now been up for 5 days in populated areas (on bus stops/pelican crossings etc)

IAmSproutycus · 27/08/2018 16:14

Good idea. I’ve ordered white printer stickers and will go see if I can order pink ones too.

Lefthanddown · 27/08/2018 17:29

I struggled to find pink label stickers, which is why I went for paper.
Managed to post 12 penises and 14 info sheets in my walk today 😀

MrsFogi · 27/08/2018 23:06

Okay strike my original Blue Peter list of "Here's what you need" and replace it with this. You just need:

  • Paper or stickers
  • Marker pen
  • double sided sticky tape (if using stickers)
Then just draw/write your own. Grin

I think it is helpful to point to FairPlayForWomen.com or another site on the stickers so that people who see them can get more info.

I can't manage stickers either - just print and cut.

Some lovely walks here too today - I'm finding myself strangely drawn to parking meter machines, post boxes and bus stops at the moment.

My goodness Lefthanddown that sounds like an excellent walk.
I was somewhat peeved that one of my stickers was removed within about 5 minutes today. Two will go up in the place of every one taken down though.....

I happened to notice some rather fetching hand coloured pictures on my early morning stroll today. What is the best way for me to share my happy snaps of those more widely? Twitter? Is that safe?

MrsFogi · 28/08/2018 10:51

Do put them on here. As for more widely I think the issue is that on Twitter you'll start getting vitriol from the TRAs (all depends on whether or not you're up for dealing with that). Probably best to set up a separate Twitter account. Maybe start a new thread to ask about this or post on the main StickerWoman thread to see if anyone has any ideas. Do report back because I've seen quite a lot of stickers in my area recently that I'd be happy to share too Wink.

BUMP

Lefthanddown · 28/08/2018 13:40

MrsFogi, 8 miles, taking in 1 town and 2 villages! I stick mine anywhere, benches, pelican crossings, noticeboards, bus stops, electric boxes, life buoy boxes, lock gates, pubs etc, sometimes hand a leaflet to mums with daughters too.

Some of the stickers have been removed quickly (and replaced with a sign saying transphobe) the longest stayed for 6 days, but it had curled up with the rain anyway, so I wasn't too bothered. I just think if one person follows the QR code on them it could help.

MrsFogi · 28/08/2018 16:51

DH thinks I'm mad. The little "secret" pocket in my Longchamp plaige bag is proving a godsend and I have become a ninja sticker now and am quite enjoying looking for heavy traffic areas.

Cuntysnark · 28/08/2018 17:39

I did 2 yesterday. I have them in my bag. Hand written. I’m quite good at drawing a penis.

Iused2BanOptimist · 28/08/2018 22:36

I think the back of loo doors is a good place because when the cleaners go in they have the door open while they clean the loo and don't get to shut the door and see what is there. It was rather gratifying to notice a young woman going into a loo at the service station today and burst out laughing soon after shutting the door. Grin

seafret · 28/08/2018 23:43

Trying hard to do this. Does anyone know how hashtags work please? Can you just make up a snappy slogan and stick a hashtag in front of it? or are there rules?!!

Thanks

MrsFogi · 29/08/2018 12:04

@seafret no rules just get the message out there. I tend to add something that can be googled e.g. FairPlayForWomen.com. Someone who knows about twitter will be along soon no doubt,

MrsFogi · 29/08/2018 22:00

Also worth a look at the additional idea of writing on banknotes on the Ian Hislop thread.

OP posts:
Cuntysnark · 29/08/2018 22:06

I’ve started writing on bank notes. Self serve tills are a gift for the cautious.

MrsFogi · 02/10/2018 19:09

So as it is less than 100 days to Christmas and, more importantly, THE consultation closes on 19 October I thought I'd remind everyone that stickers are a great way to raise awareness. After a few days of high adrenaline each time you put a sticker up you will become a Ninja (this weekend I managed to stick up loads of stickers whilst out with DH and he didn't even notice I was doing it!).
Do share if any of you have found some heavy traffic areas that are easy to "stick" - my favourites are car park machines (particularly the one on the way in that everyone has to pass through but also the pay machines), on trains in the entrance to carriages where people stand around for long periods of time, bus stops (of course), sides of letter boxes, parking meters.....

remind me of the writing on banknotes idea??? Keen to do...
