www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-6090055/Suck-d-k-b-s-Woman-loses-NASA-internship-following-profanity-laden-tweet.html?login

I get cross at these stories as this is clearly a TW not a woman and people like this are giving women a bad name.

So many comments under the article saying how rude women are getting nowadays. Thinking this is a biological woman. I cannot imagine any biological woman getting accepted onto a NASA internship and behaving like this.

OP posts:

Oh I read that story and wondered what the fuck that comment was about and why everyone was so quick to defend 'her'. No one wants to be language policed and it's annoying but if you are posting publicly about an internship at mother fucking NASA, play it cool. The original post wasn't wise but I can see how young people might be a bit confused about how large organizations work with "I fucking love science" and tech giants having fairly relaxed working conditions etc. But to post something as rude as the second comment you deserve to lose your internship as you clearly aren't as clever you think you are.

The comment did make me wonder if it was actually a male that and the fact that person actually secured an internship at NASA

IfIWasABirdIdFlyIn2ACeilingFan · 24/08/2018 13:18

Interesting. I saw the post on a fb page and thought the “suck my dick and balls” sounded like something transwomen would say but thought nothing more of it as to whether the person was actually a transwoman. They really like that phrase don’t they.

IfNotNowThenWhen1 · 24/08/2018 13:23

I don't think the Homer guy was being mansplainy. He said "language". It was just a mild warning.
The "intern" then responded in a shockingly rude and stupid way. Do young people really not understand that their social media is public and their employers can see it??
Male or female it was unbelievably crass and thick.
Sending them off into space would at least increase the collective intelligence of the inhabitants of Earth slightly.

hackmum · 24/08/2018 13:25

IfIWasABird: "They really like that phrase don’t they."

Indeed they do. And yet they are always accusing us of being obsessed with genitals.

DixieFlatline · 24/08/2018 13:31

Everyone should be respected/deserves respect, until their actions lose that respect.

Tbh, womanface seems awfully similar to blackface to me. Claiming the identity of woman when it is not yours to take, not to mention helping to keep it tied to harmful gender stereotypes, are actions, are choices.

IfIWasABirdIdFlyIn2ACeilingFan · 24/08/2018 13:40

Indeed hackmum

Totally agree dixie

OnlyObjectivity · 24/08/2018 14:30

I'm struggling to reconcile two statements:

"I do not hire and fire at the agency or have any say on employment whatsoever."

and

"I have also talked to the folks that had to do with her internship and made absolutely certain that there will be no black mark on her record. They have told me she may reapply."

Cauliflowersqueeze · 24/08/2018 14:33

It is not known where in America Naomi lives, but she identifies as a furry - a subculture who enjoy dressing up as cartoon-inspired animals.

I’m struggling to get over this

Being a biological woman is not a get out of twat free card!

seafret · 24/08/2018 15:00

Being a biological woman is not a get out of twat free card!

No, but so many exceptions (particularly for behaviour and maturity etc) are made for transwomen that women have not benefitted from.

In most cases, women have always had to be up there with the best men or be better, to get ahead. Not so for some transpeople.

They should not be called women as it misdescribes who we are talking about and we need to know who we are talking about.

Being a biological woman is not a get out of twat free card!

Get out of twat?? Confused what does that even mean?

LadybirdsAreBirds · 24/08/2018 16:42

I think the 'twat free' comment is a version of NAMALT

LadybirdsAreBirds · 24/08/2018 16:44

... with a norty word lobbed in for effect.

There's a bit more of it about today, I notice

CAAKE · 24/08/2018 16:44

This comment is GOLD

"Woman" loses NASA internship....
LadybirdsAreBirds · 24/08/2018 16:46

or NAWAN (not all women are nice)

Which is

a) true
b) irrelevant when we are not talking about a woman

IfIWasABirdIdFlyIn2ACeilingFan · 24/08/2018 16:58

If that’s what the poster means (nawan) then they’ve misunderstood the comment they quoted.

Thisnamechanger · 24/08/2018 17:05

b) irrelevant when we are not talking about a woman

Not irrelevant if you look at the comment it was responding to. Here it is again:

I cannot imagine any biological woman getting accepted onto a NASA internship and behaving like this.

Being male, female or trans does not by definition make you good or badly behaved.

IfIWasABirdIdFlyIn2ACeilingFan · 24/08/2018 17:35

Of course not. But women are in a far more precarious position than men when it comes to the world of working in male dominated industries, so we mind our ps and qs.

YeTalkShiteHen · 24/08/2018 17:41

Male or female it was unbelievably crass and thick

But it was said about male genitals, by someone in possession of male genitals. Entirely relevant.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 24/08/2018 17:43

Not quite the image of a needy science geek who has been dreaming of a job at NASA since primary school is it?

AsAProfessionalFekko · 24/08/2018 17:43

Nerdy not needy.

Thisnamechanger · 24/08/2018 17:44

Of course not. But women are in a far more precarious position than men when it comes to the world of working in male dominated industries, so we mind our ps and qs.

Isn't that still saying women = well behaved though?

I don't think this person behaved the way the did because they are trans, it's because they're an idiot. Plenty of idiots out there across both the sexes.

YeTalkShiteHen · 24/08/2018 17:45

There seem to be a lot of high profile trans people who are also very open about quite niche fetishes.

How is this being picked up on?

IfyouseeRitaMoreno · 24/08/2018 17:50

I imagine Hickham went out of his way to help the trans woman and assure the masses that it wasn’t him that got them fired because he was intimidated by the threatening tweets he received.

IfIWasABirdIdFlyIn2ACeilingFan · 24/08/2018 17:58

Isn't that still saying women = well behaved though?

I’ll give you better behaved.

I don't think this person behaved the way the did because they are trans, it's because they're an idiot. Plenty of idiots out there across both the sexes.

I think their socialisation as a Male and current climate WRT trans people made them far more confident in their idiotic behaviour. Until we have equal numbers of men and women in the industry we won’t know if women are as likely to behave as badly.
