I had an interesting discussion with a MRA woman today

This woman did not identify as a MRA, she is very content to disregard the rights, privacy, safety and dignity of women to please men.

I was offered a woman only deal on gym membership. I asked if it was biological woman only, she was delighted with herself and said we include all genders of women. She was shocked that I would not find this fantastic news. She refused to accept single sex exemptions in the EA 2010 existed or that you can't ask for a GRC, she was under the impression all Transwomen have had an operation to remove the penis and talked over me when I explained facts, she did not want to know.

I find it interesting that women will just shut down, its like talking to someone who has been a hypnotised or is disassoiated.

Our message is not getting through.

Listen I don't mind exercising next to Transwomen be they a fetishism AGP type or a Gender Dysphoria type, I exercise next to men and I don't know the spectrum of their lifestyle or issues, it is none of my business and I don't care.

I do want to get naked in a shower and change in front of someone who has a natal male / XY chromosome body and I don't fucking have to, I either vote with my feet by not joining or inform the gym about using single sex exemptions. Where was this even in the OP? It wasn't even in the OP about changing next to people. It was about how OP asked whether it was just biological women included in the women only deal membership - and didn't "find it fantastic news" to be told that it included transwomen too.

Didn't mean anything about posts being imperfect, or anything. Just pointing out that the OP had an issue with transwomen benefiting from a women only deal too and didn't even mention changing rooms. Was all about having a problem with them having a womens only deal too and that's discriminatory whether you like it or not.

Actually it is true that the op only talks about a membership deal, which presumably is financial only and therefore doesn't have the safety / dignity aspect of transwomen /self-ided women in female changing rooms.
I thinking the gym would be hard pressed to explain exclusion of transwomen in a discount scheme as "proportional means for a legitimate aim".

This woman is not a MRA, she just knows equality law. If the gym was for "biological women" only it would be a blanket ban and would not be covered by the single sex exceptions in the EA. And you can ask for a GRC if you have a good reason.

The gym has clearly trained their staff on equality law and has an inclusive approach to trans women - this should be welcomed.

Agree with @mrghardy, I work with a woman (who I like) but all over her facebook page I see feminist posts and all pro-transactivist posts and when I fairly gently pointed out that the two might be in conflict she inferred that I am bigotted, because I am older than her, I must be right.

Apologies , it was a random cold seller on the pavement then. You said you were offered women only gym membership, I assumed it was in a gym you were offered that. It could have been either as we weren't there. Doesn't detract from the fact you said you have an issue with trans women getting women only memberships too.

I thought it was always fairly obvious that the OP’s issue was that if the gym sees TW as women and treats them just like women - then she couldn’t join in case she found herself changing or showering next to an adult male one day - as happened to a friend at my club.
