Could we reclaim "cis"?

I am mainly just thinking out loud here and happy to be told to stop being ridiculous.

I know a lot of the women on here are deeply unhappy with the cis label but I was wondering if it's something we could actually work with.

Cis basically just means a person that identifies as the sex/gender that they were assigned at birth, right?

Wouldn't it be better if we reclaimed the label and had ciswomen only shortlists or ciswomen only refuges or ciswomen only sporting categories?

Perhaps transwomen can be women but they can never be ciswomen.

I think I understand the anger at the definition of "woman" being changed and all the rest. I suppose this is an "if you can't beat them, join them" solution. Is it terrible?

To be clear, I am a woman.

I do not accept any gender role. I do not concern myself with what women are supposed to do, think, say, wear, like, enjoy, drink, eat... nor to how women are supposed to present, behave, react, respond...

I am not a woman because of the clothes I wear, the hair style I choose, the amount of glitter I have in my life or how pink my house is. I am a woman because my biological sex is female and I am an adult.

That is it. No more, no less.

Nope.

I'd object whatever they tried to impose, but cis is a horrid word anyway. I always think of sissy or cyst. I know etymologically there is no relationship but it's enough of a homonym to make me cringe.

biological sex isn't a job. you don't get "assigned"

Have not read all the thread yet, but the point would be:
You cannot REclaim something that was not yours to begin with.
'cis' was something forced upon us.

That will be a 'no' from me.

Also, the TRAs continually shift the goalposts. So next week, it will be something else. We are barely hanging onto the words we have now.

hairylegsonshow · 03/08/2018 12:11

Nope. There is nothing I want to reclaim about the ridiculous 'cis' word!

TerfsUp · 03/08/2018 12:39

No.

Ucantarguewistupid · 03/08/2018 14:41

By calling myself a woman, a female I am making very clear I was a female in my mother's womb and am a female now. Absolutely no need to attach a totally unnecessary and inaccurate pro noun. A pronoun already exists to distinguish between someone born with female bits and a male who 'feels' like a woman. That would be Trans.

So the idea of Cis woman can be shoved up the piss hole of the man that coined it.

Trinity66 · 03/08/2018 14:45

No

No.

The 'gender norms' for women are not progressive. Accepting a label that says you are fully aligned with them cannot be anything but repressive. Especially if imposed, but still so unless you join the game of words-have-no-meaning.
