Maybe that is why they were telling women they should have babies before they entered politics, (presumably when they are 80% sure like a man and not 110% sure like a woman) Sad

That does not work for everyone. We will be back to the days where you have a choice of marriage and babies, or a career (which is what I was told by a female lecturer at university).

Ereshkigal · 19/07/2018 09:17

Absolutely Rowan and Melamin.

Sickening. Just sickening.

gendercritter · 19/07/2018 12:54

This has completely knocked the wind out of my sails. I am so distressed I can't articulate it.

How absolutely offensive to women. A parliament of 100% men? How would the lot of women improve in society? Why are these women so happy to betray other women?

I'm so grateful there are other gender critic women fighting this; putting their energy and resources into tackling it and being so courageous as to speak out publically. Thank you so much. It matters.

Melamin · 19/07/2018 12:59

Yep - Fawcett society thinking that 100% men would be fine if 50% identify as women and that women should have their children early if they want to go into politics and put themselves forward a bit more - don't be so reticent.

That's 100 years of work on representation of women sorted out properly in an evening. Who'd have thought it?

OvaHere · 19/07/2018 13:06

It's beyond offensive. I hope Dr Nic and FPFW do some sort of press release about the statements of these MPs.

All women deserve to know which MPs would throw them under a bus in a heartbeat.

ImPreCis · 19/07/2018 13:32

So we would have a parliament where no one had any experience of Periods, Childbirth, Menopause, of BEING A WOMAN! And they would ALL have male privilege.
I feel sick, and angry. The Fawcett Society FFS, I supported them for years.
I have realised that most men hate women, they have had to put up with us and our demanding (of equality) ways and they have grasped at this as a way of putting us back in our place.
Invest in shares in red cloth, I am using my Christmas table cloth to run up a long red robe, with white headdress so that I am ahead of the game.
Under HIS fucking eye.

MoltenLasagne · 19/07/2018 13:45

We're going to be in the situation of wives (transwomen, obviously the superior "woman") and handmaids the way this is going...

Article by Jo Bartosch:
'Turning off the Fawcett — Why I Won’t Stand'
(extract)
"Mention of Maria Miller’s name sent the flicker of a sneer across my face; that must have been what tipped her off. After about five minutes of tentative conversational fishing we established that we were both gender apostates, the new non-believers who are not to be tolerated in respectable company. As women with different political allegiances living at either end of the UK, we expressed mutual anger, frustration and disappointment at the abandonment of feminist analysis in favour of the sophist soundbite ‘transwomen are women.’ We shared our annoyance about feeling politically homeless and joked that we needed a secret sign.

When we shuffled in for the opening plenary we went our separate ways. The large circular hall in Westminster Church House is impressive, seating several hundred people. When questions were put to the floor one brave woman asked the inevitable ‘if all-women short-lists are open to transwomen, how would you feel if half of those on all women-shortlists were men?’ The organisers winced, and I could see some young women in the row opposite shift uncomfortably in their seats, seemingly squeamish about the embarrassing ignorance of not understanding that anyone who identifies as a woman is.

Listening first to Sal Brinton (Liberal Democrat), Dawn Butler (Labour), Maria Miller (Conservative), then Amelia Womack (Green Party) parrot the nonsensical mantra ‘transwomen are women’ I thought of the woman I met when I first arrived. I noted Sophie Walker of WEP and Sam Smethers, the CEO of Fawcett, stayed tight-lipped; I understand their reticence to engage but at an event held under the banner ‘courage calls to courage’ their silence was shameful. This on the day that it was reported four women had been sexually assaulted by a man who identifies as a woman and was housed in a women’s prison." (continues)

yes the silence of Sophie Walker and Sam Smethers was shameful

If you know this is dangerous nonsense, if you have a platform, then for gods sake, speak out before it's too late

Your silence harms women

V good piece by Jo Bartosch

Btw twitter confirms it was not David Lewis (Woman Wednesdays) who was monologuing at the session Jo attended

Pratchet · 19/07/2018 20:22

It has taken two years since I first became concerned about this, to understand the extent of the calculated TRA takeover of women's and LGB organisations. Two years ago even after peak trans, I would have thought this was crazy conspiracy talk. What is worrying is that people like Penny Mordsunt will just scoff at that idea, even if they do have some sympathy. But it needs a truly radical approach to root it out.

Pratchet · 19/07/2018 20:22

We just havent the time to get these people up to speed.

SonicVersusGynaephobia · 19/07/2018 21:22

R0wantrees can I just say thank you for your seemingly indefatigable conscientiousness with your posting of important links and sources. I really appreciate it. You're a great asset to this board. Flowers

SonicVersusGynaephobia · 19/07/2018 21:27

And yes, I feel a bit suckerpunched by these women saying this under the banner of "courage calls to courage".

They are making a mockery of women.

They're meant to be the people we're relying on to make society fair and just for women and they're going out of their way to make things worse.

R0wantrees · 19/07/2018 21:30

Sonic thank you, we're all doing what we can. It's moving very quickly!

I think that there's more to gain by focussing on those who have done the lobbying & the consequences of their lobbying.

(extract)
"A series of Freedom of Information (FoI) requests have revealed that councils have widely backed guidelines produced by organisations campaigning for the rights of transgender people but have not considered how the new approach will affect children – particularly girls.

The new guidelines tell teachers that if a transgender pupil wishes to share a changing room with "other young people who share their gender identity," they should be allowed to do so.

"There is no reason for parents or carers of the other pupils to be informed," it adds.

The guidelines say young people should be able to compete in the sports events for the gender they identify with, and says if other pupils are uncomfortable using changing rooms or toilets with transgender pupils, they should use other facilities or wait until the transgender pupil is done.

However none of the councils involved, nor the children’s commissioner, nor Education Scotland have carried out an equality impact assessment to ensure the rights and wellbeing of other pupils are unaffected. This means the impact on other students has not been taken into account"

It's extremely galling that after a long, hard fought personal battle over equal pay, Carrie Gracie donated all the back pay from the BBC to... the Fawcett Society, throwing women under the bus, for the purposes of.

R0wantrees · 19/07/2018 21:49

Yes Pratchet absolutely.

I'm just listening to Helen Steel's talk in November:

To be fair to the Fawcett Society, they hosted this panel of MPs and Peers, and it was a selection of those MPs and Peers who - when asked - said they'd view transwomenaswomen.

From the Fawcett Society there came no comment - cowardly maybe.

They did hold this big, very brilliant event to inspire women into politics. And it will have done, so they are not baddies IMO.

On a related note I wonder how the Sufragettes would have been viewed by many at that event - there was real discomfort in the room at the:
political question
by a woman
to politicians (also women)
about a matter of critical importance to women

It's not exactly marches, heckling, civil disobedience, direct action, hunger strike thanks wikipedia

Pratchet · 19/07/2018 22:02

Fairyflaps · 20/07/2018 06:02

I think I attended the same session as Jo Bartosch at this event.

Like Jo, I was disappointed that the first voice offering their experiences in that session was a male one. No, it wasn't David Lewis, it was Zoe O'Connel, Cambridge City Councillor, and lib dem prospective parliamentary candidate, one of at least 3 transwomen who have represented the lib dems on Cambridge council.

In terms of 'Ask her to Stand', Zoe O'C was already leaps and bounds ahead of many of the women attending the event, who despite their wealth of skills and experience, their time served supporting their party or community, were still, doubting themselves as potential representatives whilst being pushed aside by less competent, more sharp-elbowed men, who, not having been raised as girls, lacked the self-doubt that holds so many of us women back.

The other issue that came up in that session was the number of women who felt politically homeless, not being able to find a party that put women first (and sorry, Sophie Walker, that includes WEP).

I am happy to see trans women represented in local government, and would be pleased to see them represented in parliament (though hopefully not the unpleasant and unprofessional transactivists who run the LGBT+ Lib Dems twitter account).

I would also like to see trans men represented, which is not happening. I have lost count of the trans women parliamentary candidates in recent years, but have not seen any trans men. While trans women are winning women of the year awards, being included on All Women Shortlists and the Jo Cox leadership programme, being asked to speak on BBC question time, we rarely hear of trans men, other than when they become pregnant, or are the partner of a more high profile trans woman.

To me this shouts of the effects of female socialisation. Trans men, like women have been raised as girls to grow up female. Trans women were raised as boys.

It also demonstrates that it is only women who are being expected to move up and make space. Despite women not yet achieving anywhere near 50%, we are supposed to cede our hard won gains for trans women. Men are not doing the same, either for trans men, trans women or women, nor does anyone seem to be demanding that they do so.

Ereshkigal · 20/07/2018 06:35

It's extremely galling that after a long, hard fought personal battle over equal pay, Carrie Gracie donated all the back pay from the BBC to... the Fawcett Society, throwing women under the bus, for the purposes of.

I think we maybe need to contest this,if they consider males women.
