Have Mumsnet dropped their "woman centred" logo?

Bi11yOneMate · 04/07/2018 23:27

It might have happy eons ago and I've only just noticed - but where is the logo with mums doing all sorts of things?
And if it's been dropped - why? Pressure?

If you scroll right down the logo is at the very bottom of the page.

KlutzyDraconequus · 05/07/2018 09:23

Why do men - other than RPs

What's an RP?

Floorplan · 05/07/2018 09:30

Real parent??

MyRelationshipIsWeird · 05/07/2018 09:34

Resident parent

MyRelationshipIsWeird · 05/07/2018 09:36

as in - the one left doing all the shitwork 6 days a week while the NRP gets to spend one day a week taking them to McDonalds and not bothering to help them with their homework, so probably doesn’t need the same level of advice on actual parenting.

Floorplan · 05/07/2018 09:41

I wasn't that far off then Wink

LEMtheoriginal · 05/07/2018 09:52

@onlymakebelieve i was indeed a child of the 70's and i do remember posing as they did in the logo with finger guns etc. Blush its only now im older that it is all rather uncomfortable to watch!

Cagney and lacey on the other hand!

moofolk · 05/07/2018 09:53

I liked the Charlie's Angels style logo. I see why CA is problematic but to me that image conjures yo memories of recreating the pose too, not the programme itself!

Ifailed · 05/07/2018 10:08

I suspect MN have a pretty good idea of their user's demographics, or at least what the Click Though Rate is on their adverts which could be used to make an educated guess. I rather suspect that women who are actively parenting (ie their kids are still at home) could well be less than 50%.

ArcheryAnnie · 05/07/2018 10:33

Cagney and lacey on the other hand!

LEM I loved Cagney and Lacey, but looking back, it gave girls who wanted a career a choice between being a lonely single alcoholic, or a married woman who was perceived to be constantly either neglecting or emasculating her husband. I still love it, but ....oooof.

Bi11yOneMate · 05/07/2018 13:34

If I scroll right down to the bottom it is NOT there. I'm on the mobile site not app.

I must admit I was never wholly enamoured if the logo (despite loving Charlie's angels like the child of the 70s that I am), merely "interested" in the timing of the removal.

I'd go for "mumsandanyonewhoidentifiesassuchnet"

I’ve been trying to find the thread from when I remember it disappearing ages ago. It moved when they had a “mobile friendly re-design”. Nothing to do with trans issues whatsoever.

How odd. It was there this morning but now gone.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 05/07/2018 16:46

It’s there on the blue footer panel.

Is this just a novel way to have the monthly ‘why are there men/non parents posting on MN thread’?

I think Soup’s right. Couldn’t say for definite, but I think the logo at the top disappeared a while ago. Presumably when the bit at the bottom got redesigned.

Bibesia · 05/07/2018 17:27

It's a site by parents for parents. It would be incredibly silly to assume that parents can only be women

And this is why we need a pl;ace called "Mumnsnet", Bibesia

Isn't it amazing, the world is full of language and logos and brand names and all sorts of other things (like medicine! which is a bit more important than a logo) which assume male is the default human, and women are expected to deal with that, but women are "silly" for wanting a brand which takes being female as the starting point.

Nice bit of misreading, there, Archery - deliberate, I rather suspect. Where did I suggest it is silly to want a brand that takes being female as the starting point? What I said is that if you go on a site that makes it perfectly clear that it is for parents, it would be silly to assume that it must be all female. If you want the all-female brand, either search out a site that operates that way or start it yourself.

Juells · 05/07/2018 17:29

...or find a site with the word 'mum' in the title 😂

Pratchet · 05/07/2018 17:39

It's still on my phone

I reported a post early in this thread.. her is the response directly from MNHQ:

Hi there KlutzyDraconequus,

Thanks for your email.

And, you are right, membership is not strictly for women only!

We promote our site as being 'by parents, for parents' and we'd very much hope that included parents of both genders and of all ages. (It was just that, when we were choosing a name for the site, 'Parentsnet' didn't really trip off the tongue in the same kind of way.) And, actually, we do have a fair few members who are not parents at all, either because they are pregnant or hoping to become pregnant soon or because, they are interested in our discussions and wish to reflect their own viewpoint.

We hope this clears things up a bit.

Yes it is there. I was looking at it in bright sunshine so it didn't show up.

Bi11yOneMate · 05/07/2018 18:50

How weird. The logo is now back at the bottom! Grin
It most definitely wasn't there last night or this morning. Must have been a glitch.

And actually I joined this site well before I became a parent, because I liked the political discussions, and then got sucked in to chat with the minge thread. Personally I wholeheartedly like the "non mum" aspect of mumsnet.

I was just worried that they'd been "got at".

What did you object to in the earlier post? OK if it's private.

KlutzyDraconequus · 05/07/2018 19:17

Juells

I didn't object to anything. I was just asking MN for clarification about who is and isn't welcome here.
I remember reading alsewhere, possibly Justine herself, about when the site set up they always aimed it at parents and not women particularly. In fact I believe that one of the original people behind MN was a dad?
So I just wanted that clarifying.

Bi11yOneMate · 05/07/2018 19:35

klutzy I think I remember that as well
