The snake eats its tail: Twitter furious that Scar Jo is playing a trans man in next movie

It's been announced Scarlett Johansson is going to play a trans-man in an upcoming film called Rub & Tug.

Apparently Scar-Jo dressing up as a man and a trans woman in the film is offensive "trans face" according to lots of people losing their heads on Twitter.

The irony is utterly breathtaking...

As somebody who does believe trans women are women - I prefer this to a cisgender man dressing up as a trans woman like it's a fun costume or something. I'd rather a trans woman be played by a woman or a trans woman (ideally) than a man.

MsFrizzle · 04/07/2018 00:59

Wait, is she playing a transgender woman or a transgender man? The OP's wording is confusing and I cba to look it up right now from my comfy position in bed.

SPOFS · 04/07/2018 01:30

It shouldn't matter who she is playing. She is an actress. Her job is to pretend to be somebody else.

PositivelyPERF · 04/07/2018 01:30

Well MsFrizzle, since you can’t be arsed actually finding out what the thread is about, I really can’t take your comment, about transwomen being women, seriously 🙄 BTY, the term is woman or man, not that bullshite ‘cis’ label. Actual women or men don’t need a bit added on.

MsFrizzle · 04/07/2018 01:39

Bit of an ad hominem attack, but okay. I prefer to use cisgender, being a trans person myself. I'm not going to alter my vocabulary and I don't expect you to do so either.

@MsFrizzle

I do believe that "cis" is banned on these boards. You may receive a strike for using it. Check your inbox.

MistressDeeCee · 04/07/2018 03:26

The C word is banned on this board? I didn't know that. But since it's a silly, shitty made up label then I'm glad

Woman will do

You agreed to abide by the terms and conditions when you signed up here. If anyone reports your comments using a banned term to describe women they will be deleted regardless you identifying as trans.

NotTerfNorCis · 04/07/2018 06:56

Haaa just saw all the outrage.

So TRAs want the character to be played by someone born female, but that person must identify as male in real life? Are there many top actors who fit that profile? And how would they cope with earlier scenes where the character 'presents as female'?

Gileswithachainsaw · 04/07/2018 07:02

I think even they have no idea about what point they want to make now....

Talk about looking an idiot

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 04/07/2018 07:16

I think the TRAs need to look up the definition of acting.

Bless them: their right to be outraged really does trump all rationality, logic, and intelligent thinking, doesn’t it?

DisturblinglyOrangeScrambleEgg · 04/07/2018 07:34

SJ's pretty gender non-conforming anyway, I think she falls under the trans umbrella no problem. Therefore, is fine for the part.

ArcheryAnnie · 04/07/2018 08:41

I prefer to use cisgender

Your preference still doesn't make "cisgender" anything other than a sexist, homophobic term which tries to normalise the ludicrous idea that women somehow have innate structural privilege over males.

PositivelyPERF · 04/07/2018 08:43

I prefer to use cisgender I prefer to call men who want to be women, or women who want to be men, by their actual sex, rather than their fantasy. Strangely enough I get abuse over that one.

Ereshkigal · 04/07/2018 08:46

I'll direct you to the MN posting guidelines around trans issues. The c-word is seen as a goady term. We're not allowed to say certain things and neither are you.
