That poor poor woman. I feel sick reading that.
Shame on those police officers.

Baroquehavoc · 02/07/2018 18:38

That was a tough read.

The reaction of the police officers involved is what I would expect from the 1920s not today.

NWQM · 02/07/2018 18:41

Just can’t really find the words to react appropriately. That she had to first endure so much but then be so let down is terrible but worrying not totally shocking. It’s all to easy to answer the question ‘why did the police do nothing’.... because they still don’t believe they should get involved. I hope she can rebuild her life.

thebewilderness · 02/07/2018 18:41

A very significant problem for women who are abused is the high percentage of abusers in Law Enforcement. They simply do not view beating and raping women as a crime.

Bowlofbabelfish · 02/07/2018 18:43

‘Management action’

So a slap on the wrists? A nice chat about how to improve?

Jesus. Poor, poor woman. Horrifying reading. She was incredibly brave to walk out of the flat when she did.

TellsEveryoneRealFacts · 02/07/2018 18:45

Jesus.

Male violence.

It is fucking shameful that the police just can't be arsed to see it.

HelenaDove · 02/07/2018 18:50

Wow that's horrific. Poor Charlotte. And what a lame and inadequate police disciplinary response.

TheQueef · 02/07/2018 18:57

Poor lass. They left him to it.

Sad
ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo · 02/07/2018 18:58

Christ that poor poor woman! Shock

What utter tripe that those officers have received “management action” Angry seriously?? That’s it. They left a woman to be killed. That’s how it would have ended had she not seen a chance to run.

Can someone explain how they can get away with not giving her the full report? She is the complainant, surely the report exists because she asked for it?

LoveProsecco · 02/07/2018 19:00

This is awful. I hope Charlotte can recover in all respects from what she has been through

cheerfullysleepless · 02/07/2018 19:00

What I cannot understand is how he’s going to be coming out after just five years of his sentence. I’m really not a string em up or prison’s too good kind of person at all but there HAS to be a consideration of the message this sends to other offenders and this behaviour is basically consistent with being someone who is highly unlikely to have been rehabilitated to the point he won’t do it again to some other poor woman after five years inside

LegoBitcho · 02/07/2018 19:06

That poor woman. It's a disgrace how badly she was let down.

HelenaDove · 02/07/2018 19:14

is this really all that womens lives are worth. Shes been left with permanent injuries

she has every right to see that report in its entierity They are STILL treating her like she is nothing Sad Angry

OP posts:
Ginorchoc · 02/07/2018 19:31

Awful, the basics is to separate them to allow her to talk in private.

She has such a long history of rejection by parents, foster care, teenage pregnancy and her sons dad leaving her, house fire and then this monster for several years. There are longer articles/interviews and you have to wonder how she still has hope :(

I hope she has a team of kind and supportive people taking her and her son under her wing.

FermatsTheorem · 02/07/2018 19:38

Bloody hell, this is just so dreadful. People in the police should be losing their jobs over this.

Waddlelikeapenguin · 02/07/2018 19:43

That was horrific to even read, poor woman.

"consideration would be given to Ch Insp G receiving additional / refresher training in relation to domestic abuse” fuck this

How could anyone being sent to a house because violence is reported see a bruised pregnant women & not speak to her on her own?
How many other people didnt see what was happening? Was she under MW care?

Talk about catastrophic failure. Sad

Badgerthebodger · 02/07/2018 19:47

Oh my god she is so bloody brave. What a vile excuse for a man he is, just horrifying. I am appalled the police officers didn’t deem it important enough to deal with properly, yet another example of people thinking its acceptable to treat women like shit. I suspect class plays into it heavily as well. How could you walk away from her and just leave her there when she’s got fresh bruising? And as for not giving her the report, shame on them. They royally fucked up and they don’t even have the balls to admit it. Management action ffs. And now that monster will get out, and he’ll do it again. He’ll find some other unsuspecting woman and he’ll do it again, probably worse.

ReadytoTalk · 02/07/2018 19:51

Disgusting! I hope she takes them to court and gets enough compensation to set her up for life.

HelenaDove · 02/07/2018 19:59

"I suspect class plays into it heavily as well"

i suspect the same.

OP posts:
phlewf · 02/07/2018 20:10

If they officers involved were fired and lost their pension it would put a rocket up those that were left.
I try not to speak against the police but stories like this make it hard. This wasn’t one officer deciding she wasn’t worth it, it was many who decided it wasn’t their problem. Yes loosing their job is serious and will have a massive affect on their life but that’s exaclty what their inaction has caused. And they are allowed to remain anonymous?!

ResistanceIsNecessary · 02/07/2018 20:44

I think she is an amazing and extremely brave woman.

I think the police force in question should be asking themselves some serious questions about their internal biases - against woman, against "domestics" and against people of a perceived lower class.

I think the officers who left that woman alone in the flat with her abuser to be tortured, having not even bothered to follow protocol and ask her alone if she felt safe, should feel completely responsible and ashamed.

Most of all I think a sentence of 10 years is a complete joke. This man is a danger to women and should be on lifelong license, monitoring and disclosure requirements. He will do this again.

AngryAttackKittens · 02/07/2018 21:53

"While not amount to misconduct"

What would be misconduct then? Did they have to beat her themselves in order for the force to acknowledge that maybe they weren't doing their jobs properly?

10 years is not long enough for the bastard who did this to her. 20 years wouldn't be either. He's still young, as soon as they let him out he'll do it again.

ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo · 02/07/2018 22:00

It is utterly terrifying that the only source of help she had available to her at the most vulnerable time in her life just abandoned her to her fate. If we cannot depend on the police who are actually sitting there looking at your bruises to get you to safety when you have literally no other options then what the hell hope can any victim have? The only reason that woman isn’t dead is the pure luck that the police had to visit this scumbag for an unrelated reason and she was able to get herself out. Angry

powershowerforanhour · 02/07/2018 22:09

Poor woman. As sure as might follows day he'll do it again to someone else. Glad she got away. Good luck Charlotte.
