I'm going to Starbucks and I'm going to get a leg wax, a nose job and my bingo wings sorted

So happy! Because I work for Starbucks, they're going to pay to fix all the parts of my body I'm not that keen on.

I'm a bit hairy, my tits are drooping, bingo wings are becoming a bit of an issue and I've never liked my nose.

Oh no, wait. They won't pay for that because I'm a woman. If however I were a man who wanted to look like a woman, then they would. Kind of makes a mockery of the whole 'transwomen ARE women' line really.

I think it's just that in America your reply yer paid your health insurance.
So if you needed bigger boobs because your flat chest was causing immense depression you might get one.

Serfisafleur · 28/06/2018 08:06

Lol hopefully not just one.

AngryAttackKittens · 28/06/2018 08:07

Pretty shit insurance if they only pay for one...

Serfisafleur · 28/06/2018 08:07

Oh crap and also was meant to read
*employer pays your health insurance

CompeteHalfAMile · 28/06/2018 08:09

I will not be purchasing from there again, now they are sexist when funding staff perks in plastic surgery, that's the final straw.

I ordered a syrup in my coffee, I don't know if it's sugar free or a recipe change, it was horrid, tasted of false chemicals not a natural taste.

I will go to another tax dodging coffee shop instead.

No serf, women do not routinely get breast augmentation on their health insurance in the US.

This is the healthcare system the Tories want. Its why they are dismantling the NHS.

lolaflores · 28/06/2018 08:37

Can get that to go? And a croissant?

I haven't read the full Starbucks report, but are they also covering counselling/therapy for those with gender dysphoria to see if physical body changes are the best route for the individual, and will they also cover detransitioners? How will they know if they are actually funding someone with AGP rather than gender dysphoria?

US insurers have lots of rules and restrictions often become clear only when trying to access treatment. For instance, you can be told that your procedure can only be covered in-state, only to find none of your in-state hospitals actually provide the treatment you need.

If I recall correctly, Starbucks cover IVF for employees too and that was also announced in the press at the time, so they must think the good international PR outweighs the additional costs?

BettyDuMonde · 28/06/2018 09:31

Apparently they also pay for employees to study for distance degrees (open university style).

Starbucks has quite competitive maternity insurance in the US that isn’t available to trans people. They are just offering an equivalent value item to avoid discriminating against their trans employees.

BettyDuMonde · 28/06/2018 09:48

Materialist, that really blows my mind.

I spent yesterday discussing total mastectomy at the genetics clinic (BRCA2 gene fault raises breast cancer risk to 8 in 10 over a lifetime) and not only is it a difficult op to recover from but the NHS expects you to have several pre surgery counselling appointments, both before meeting a surgeon and after, with time in between to really consider your options.

Overall, this means it’s a much slower process than accessing the ovarian cancer preventative surgery of oophorectomy (although that also requires precounselling, due to ending fertility and bringing early menopause).

And I’m in my 40s with 3 kids.

The thought that a teenager could access the same surgeries without nearly as much support is sad and scary.

I assume this covers all types of trans so if you were a woman looking to transition you would be able to access the service too.

OrchidInTheSun · 28/06/2018 10:12

But why is body modification only available to those who are trans? Why can't I get a boob job? If transwomen are women, why is their bodily dissatisfaction more important than women's?

OP posts:
MillyTheKid · 28/06/2018 10:23

Because they're obviously offering this under the trans umbrella, specifically for men AND women suffering from GD I assume. A boob job isn't GD related.

MillyTheKid · 28/06/2018 10:24

Isn't necessarily GD related.
