Hi namechanged

But I’m a long time lurker, sporadic poster.

I donated to the transgendertrend crowdfunder and since then I’ve got four transactions which are not mine on the card. They appear to originate from the same postcode as the crowdfunder.

It’s been used at deliveroo and fucking Airbnb!!! Has anyone else had problems?

OP posts:
OlennasWimple · 26/06/2018 21:47

Oh no!

What does your bank say about the transactions?

VI0LET · 26/06/2018 21:47

You need to call your bank right now and report the fraudulent transactions . They will stop your card immediately and send you a new one.

ArseDiamonds · 26/06/2018 21:48

It’s credit card, we’re on hold for fraud dept now. Wanted to warn others Sad

OP posts:
Serfisafleur · 26/06/2018 21:49

I also donated and have not heard of this happening before

boatyardblues · 26/06/2018 21:49

Interesting that you’ve singled out the Crowdfunder when it’s motoring towards its target. Hmm On the other hand, if you really have had your card cloned, commiserations.

Where did you find Crowdfunders postcode? I couldn't find their address on their site?

ArseDiamonds · 26/06/2018 21:54

SA I promise I’m not, I realise you’re suspicious because of those arseholes on your support thread.

I’ve named changed because I’m paranoid of doxing, because I think it’s a staff member at crowdfunder has cloned my card.

Report my post and MN will confirm to you I’m a namechanger not troll.

OP posts:
FlaviaAlbia · 26/06/2018 21:55

Your donation would not have given enough details for a card to be cloned by the recipient. They would have received a notification of a donation if you used the crowdfunder site without seeing any financial details. If you used PayPal, they'd see your email address and if you donated straight into the bank account they would only have seen your name and the payment reference.

So unless you took a picture of the front and back of the card and sent them on, they can't be responsible.

ArseDiamonds · 26/06/2018 21:58

It’s we’re looking at the credit card statement online. The postcodes on the TT CF and the first fraudulent transaction are the same.

OP posts:
Datun · 26/06/2018 21:58

Oh no! That's terrible. Best not donate. Can't have your card being cloned. Very uncomfortable.

I've had no trouble at all. I've donated again, to make up for you not being able to.

Noqont · 26/06/2018 22:00

For transgender trend eh? Not sure why that's relevant. Seeing as crowdfunder deal with loads of different crowdfunding. If this is true the problem is not transgender trend is it. I've donated btw and not had any issues.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 26/06/2018 22:01

It's a long time since I've seen a credit card statement, but I'm pretty sure crowdfunder outsource their card processing. Is it possible that the postcode is of the card processer who is working for both companies?

ArseDiamonds · 26/06/2018 22:04

I don’t think TT has cloned my card, I think some arse working for crowdfunder has.

Flavia do you really think it’s not possible via crowdfunder? I would feel much more comfortable if it’s just been randomly cloned while I was shopping.

OP posts:
BettyDuMonde · 26/06/2018 22:07

Cloning happens frequently, sadly.

It happened to me a while back and one of the transactions was for hungryhouse.com, so I guess fraudsters are keen on takeaways!
You’d think it would be the last thing they’d do because presumably, there is a delivery address for the order? Or perhaps it’s such a common thing that they assume it’ll fly under the radar?

Anyway, it was my bank that flagged it up with me and all of the fraudulent transactions were refunded straight away (and later I got a form to sign to declare that the transactions definitely weren’t made by me).

It was inconvenient admin, but soon resolved. Hopefully you’ll receive your refund as rapidly as I did.

I certainly wouldn’t let fear of similar happening again put me off donating/shopping online.

Hope that helps reassure you?

loveyouradvice · 26/06/2018 22:10

Crowdfunder is a hugely successful site raising money for lots of causes .... you can investigate with them but for anyone reading this THIS SOUNDS VERY VERY UNLIKELY.....

Sites like Crowdfunded or JustGiving have watertight security because they make their living BY BEING SECURE.... they cannot afford not to be.

ArseDiamonds · 26/06/2018 22:12

Yes there are loads takeaways on it. I’ve not been put off donating, I was just concerned that someone was targeting people who had donated after they tried to shut it down.

OP posts:
ArseDiamonds · 26/06/2018 22:14

I don’t want to put anybody off donating. I thought TT had finished now. I hope everybody is now donating to FairPlay.

schooltripwoes · 26/06/2018 22:15

I doubt very much that any employee at Crowdfunder can see your card details, let alone clone them. I work for a ecommerce company and we simply cannot see anything except the last 4 digits of a customer's card number. It's encrypted by the acquiring bank as soon as you enter it and press 'pay now'.

ReluctantCamper · 26/06/2018 22:16

i've donated to several of these crowd funders now and not had any issues

you must be very unlucky op, commiserations

Bespin · 26/06/2018 22:17

sorry to hear that you have had your card cloned, but as others had said it is unlikely to be from crowdfunder. it is more likely to be when you have been out when someone as had direct access to your card, i would think back to the places you have used it recently as they things tend to be done quickly afterwards before people realise. I hope the card company stop it quickly and that you have not lost much, you should be able to claim that back from the card company.

enoughisenoughtoday · 26/06/2018 22:18

Just checked my bank statement and there's no post code attached to the donation. How is the postcode relevant to the misuse?
Have you only used the card to donate or have you used it elsewhere?

Mine was used to buy a very expensive designer handbag which was delivered to me followed by a taxi to "collect an incorrect delivery". Bank reckoned it had been copied at a garage or restaurant.

Given the amount of vitriol and attacks that were aimed at this particular crowdfunder with it being temporarily suspended after spurious claims were made by activists about it, your post could be seen as yet another attack on them which, if you are not certain about the facts, seems rather unfortunate to put it mildly.

LassWiADelicateAir · 26/06/2018 22:19

They appear to originate from the same postcode as the crowdfunder

I don't understand this. If an entry has a post code on it it is the post code of whoever provided the goods or services.

If there is a charge for deliveroo or an airbnb it will have their post codes on it, not Crowdfunder's.

LassWiADelicateAir · 26/06/2018 22:23

I can't find an entry on mine for Crowdfunder but very few had postcodes. Those that did only had the first part of the code.
