Apologies if this has already been discussed, but has anyone seen this video of Joe Rogan and others discussing trans athletes and women's sports? I think it was a good discussion and can't understand how someone could still scream bigotry at these very valid points. Hope the link works

It's unfortunate that he also as quite a few other views on things that you may not agree with but hay if he supports your view it's all good I suppose

Because agreeing with someone on one topic means you should agree with them on all? Or the fact that you disagree with them on a few things means that them talking sense now is 'unfortunate'?

I will never understand that really

I frequent another forum quite often. And so often the (always male) posters will do this. An example was Greers recent comments on reducing the penalty for rape. These men got themse4lves very excited about it and started making threads/posts basically saying 'ha feminists, what do you think of her now?!' and the response to it was very...Hmm. These men genuinely seemed to think that because Greer had said something that many feminists would disagree with this meant all feminists would denounce her or something. They got very annoyed when this quickly became clear this was not the case.

Ditto on here actually. Some posters will bring up how James Kirkup is no friend of feminists, or how only the right wing press would report on trans matters. And make out that as it was a right wing source reporting it, this meant that people agreeing with the story/view must clearly agree with everything that person/spruce had said in the history of history.

Its just really odd to me. I don't think there will be a person in the whole world that I agree with on every single matter, because people are individuals and each have their own brains and opinions. And agreeing with someone on one thing clearly does not mean I agree with everything they have ever said!

Sorry if this seems a bit ranty at you. I just find posts such as yours in here really weird and they seem quite common.

on the subject of hormones, if trans people ARE the sex they identify as then soon expect the IOC to be bombarded with and capitulating to demands for an end to hormone level requirements. Let's have a sweepstake. I say in time for 2024 olympics. Anyone else fancy a punt? That is the point when the complete erasure of female sport will snowball.

Italiangreyhound · 18/06/2018 17:07

Female athlete need their own Olympics. I wish some rich person would see an opportunity and start it. I find sport nauseatingly boring but an all female Olympics, I would go and see that.

Italiangreyhound · 18/06/2018 17:08

Athlete s clearly. Would not work of there was only one!

I know exactly what you mean GardenGeek and I think it's something I may at some point start another thread to discuss.

Betty ha yes that farce that was Mayweather v MacGregor, I have a boxing purist dp who thought the whole thing was a money making circus act but was still up at stupid o'clock to partake in the spectacle! I think sensible is the right word for the opinions put forth above, and as you say Rogan knows his sport.

Person I kind of understand why people think this way - no one wants to be seen agreeing with people with truly abhorrent views. But it's often used as a way to try and invalidate ideas, as you say, which is annoying. People often bring up that Hitler was a vegetarian as if that invalidates the whole of vegetarianism which makes me despair!

Good point Norther didn't think of that as another next step conclusion to the way things are going.

"Female athlete need their own Olympics. I wish some rich person would see an opportunity and start it. I find sport nauseatingly boring but an all female Olympics, I would go and see that"

What would be the difference between this and the female events at the current mixed Olympics?

This is the logical fallacy of ad hominen. Attacking the person, not their argument. It's about as useful as telling a vegetarian, "Hey, Hitler was a vegetarian so I guess if that's the kind of person you're down with, it's all good." Hmm

Floisme · 18/06/2018 19:40

I've seen a few of his podcasts - although not that one - and think he's quite interesting, although I wish he'd interview more women. He seems genuinely curious and not afraid of people who are cleverer / more knowledgeable than he is. For what it's worth, I would guess his politics as libertarian rather than either right or left - he seems very anti authoritarian.
