I would love to know what human right they are referring to.

Really need to know more about the Feminist Group in question.

chaoticgood · 14/06/2018 12:23

I don't believe a feminist group exists who "actively denie[s] the rights of members of the transgender community".

How bizarre

Southfields · 14/06/2018 12:32

Can you tell us all the details please? I bank with the Co Op and will close my account over this issue, but I need details.

ChickenOrEgg6 · 14/06/2018 12:35

I need details, too. Looks like I won't bank with them anymore.

chaoticgood · 14/06/2018 12:37

I wish I could tell you details as I would love to know them myself but no it's just that one line in the document. I don't know if there is any way of getting them. If we asked they probably would say it was confidential or not their obligation to tell

chaoticgood · 14/06/2018 12:39

Hmm maybe they would have to tell us if we asked what their are counting as trans rights

dinosaursandtea · 14/06/2018 12:41

You have a right to disagree with the trans rights movement, they have a right to refuse services to organisations they believe are at odds with their corporate values. Pretty simple, no?

ImagineBeing · 14/06/2018 12:44

Are they a hard left bank?

Shampooeeee · 14/06/2018 12:44

Placemarking for details.

Anlaf · 14/06/2018 12:47

Assuming this feminist group is one of the generic feminist groups, and not the feminist wing of (e.g.) banned far right group Scottish Dawn, this is actually a very big deal.

The bank has declined banking services to an organisation who they disagree with.

Question would be whether they would also decline services to the members of that organisation- if not, why not? probably because their compliance dept would implode at clear breach of Equalities duties to individuals

I'm not knowledgeable enough on business banking nor Equalities duties when providing services to business/charities/orgs to say if they've broken a rule by doing this, but might have a rummage in the regs later.

nauticant · 14/06/2018 12:49

Look how woke we are!

(But we won't go into details in case people start asking difficult questions and we don't look so great after all.)

ImagineBeing · 14/06/2018 12:51

Isn't that philosophical discrimination by the bank?

FortunateCookie · 14/06/2018 12:51

Hopefully the feminist group will come forward so we can judge for ourselves. I bank with the co-op so am keen to know the details.

genehuntswife · 14/06/2018 12:55

I’m keen as well. I have my business account with them. I’ll cancel it in a heartbeat if it’s an account like a woman’s place they’ve denied

QuarksandLeptons · 14/06/2018 12:57

Placemarking

Sevendown · 14/06/2018 12:58

Boycott.

womanformallyknownaswoman · 14/06/2018 13:02

This is the bank that nearly went bust and was previously headed up by a drug taking, gambler, sex offender with links to paedophile rings, under whose stewardship the bank lost millions?

I think I'd put my money elsewhere irrespective

FortunateCookie · 14/06/2018 13:03

Who would you recommend woman?

womanformallyknownaswoman · 14/06/2018 13:07

Nice they are a truly moral bunch. Hmm, think I'll move my savings out of the co op.

FortunateCookie · 14/06/2018 13:11

Thank you Smile

womanformallyknownaswoman · 14/06/2018 13:12

You're welcome :)

womanformallyknownaswoman · 14/06/2018 13:13

PS I'm not on commission

afrikat · 14/06/2018 13:20

I'm sorry so what's the issue? If a group is denying the rights of a protected community why is it a bad thing to refuse to do business with them? I think it's great that Coop take a stand on these issues
Or are you saying you agree with denying the trans community rights?
