Slap on the wrists again for abusive men

A quick scan of the DF revealed these 3 cases all in the one day - I despair:

18 months suspended sentence for multiple attacks on his partner and almost battering her to death. Words fail. How can this be the "sentence" for such serious attacks? The woman is still at risk from this charmer.

DF links but seem to be the only place reporting on this brave woman:
www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5834239/Abused-mother-one-slams-courts-ex-partners-suspended-sentence.html

Another charmer you might remember from a few months back who has finally been told about his "punishment":

I wonder if your thread is getting no attention because it links to the Daily Mail.

At least the Mail reports this. The comments below the line are unanimously supportive of the women concerned.

AngryAttackKittens · 12/06/2018 22:22

The judicial system seems to be lagging considerably behind public opinion on violence against women issues, given how frequently slap on the wrist sentences or acquittals are given in situations where the general public is outraged that the perp wasn't properly punished (think the public reaction to the initial Worboys verdict).

QuarksandLeptons · 12/06/2018 22:35

I honestly can’t understand how sentences are passed. The sexism is so blatant.

How are impoverished, non violent, vulnerable women who shoplift given 6 month sentences in prison when a man who repeatedly savagely attacks his partner walks free. Likewise, a paedophile given no time!

Yes, the daily mail is generally a sexist publication but I also admire it’s fearlessness in reporting these stories.

The Guardian has had a few disturbingly sympathetic to paedophile articles over the past few years which couch what is straightforward abuse of children in the language of ‘its a sexual orientation, they can’t hrlp it...it’s a grey area...blah blah” general apologist language.

AngryAttackKittens · 12/06/2018 22:37

The Guardian has become completely useless in terms of accurately reporting any case in which women or children are being mistreated.

womanformallyknownaswoman · 13/06/2018 06:41

It's men protecting men again and minimising the harm to women. I'm collating some information re stalking and harassment experienced by DFV survivors and it's absolutely horrific - these abusive guys are intent on destroying women, but not by physical violence. As I keep saying the justice system is not fit for purpose for prosecuting crimes against women and children

SporadicSpartacus · 13/06/2018 06:57

Maybe the Mail isn’t as bad as it has been in the past. At the least, it does seem to be listening to its readership.

kikashi · 13/06/2018 08:51

woman you are right these abusers do want to absolutely destroy women and other men (judges etc) seem to aid and abet them.

Quarks - I'm a bit worried about the sexual liberation debate taking a pro paedophile turn again (on the back of the trans debate). I remember in the 1970's/early 80's there was a lot of discussion in the MSM about Pedophilia being a legitimate sexual orientation (on the back of general sexual liberation, liberalisation of laws on homosexuality). The Pedophile Information Exchange was affiliated with what became Liberty and there were lots of articles in the press about how much lower the age of consent was in other countries and how young children enjoyed sex. It was quite horrifying and was against a background, similar to today of lots of large scale sexual abuse scandals ( in childrens homes at that time) coming to light. I feel things haven't improved and that authorities still cover their ears and hope it will all go away.

Me too. I'm really worried about this.

Ereshkigal · 13/06/2018 09:18

Me too. Look up the "Safer Schools" programme in Australia, pitched as "anti bullying". And see who are the architects of the programme and look at some of the opinions they've expressed.

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 13/06/2018 10:33

This. Shoplifting is a crime against property, hence taken much more seriously

kikashi · 19/06/2018 20:24

Further derisory sentences. A Romanian trafficking gang who ran a large network of brothels in Lancashire and moved women between them when they were "used up" so they could advertise "fresh stock" got sentences of between 9 months and 44 months for having tasers, trafficking and exploiting women and keeping them as slaves. 9 months?? out in 4 - I would get more for not paying my council tax!

They'll move on and do it again no doubt - it really beggars belief. Enslaving a woman in the UK and forcing her to be constantly raped merits 44 months as the longest sentence. Out in less than 2 years. No punishment at all. I despair. They were only rumbled as a neighbour complained about noise.

I keep hearing MRA's complain that women get lighter sentences, as part of our 'female privilege'. But there have been 2 high profile cases recently where the women were sentenced to 2 years or more.
Whereas a man who poured bleach down his partners throat and battered her with a cricket bat, and at least 2 who had sex with 12 year old girls have walked free from court.

Fightthebear · 19/06/2018 20:31

That’s worth complaining about to the Attorney General as an unduly lenient sentence. Repeated rapes ffs.

There was an Albanian sex trafficking gang a few years back who got 11 years, upped to 18 after being referred.

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 19/06/2018 20:33

Crow these men have selective memories. I post comments on the DM site as many times as I can under stories about men receiving wrist slaps for evil, barbaric offenses, pointing out how it is lies for men to state that women get lighter sentences and lo! Here we are with proof! Of course, I get jillions of red arrows.

Ereshkigal · 19/06/2018 20:36

I despair.

kikashi · 19/06/2018 20:40

Fighthebear the problem about complaining to the AG is that the gang weren't prosecuted for rape or facilitating it but only conspiracy to arrange the travel of women for the purposes of exploitation. So it doesn't come under the small number of crimes that merit review. Not sure why they didn't have more serious charges brought against them.

OP posts:
kikashi · 19/06/2018 20:42

Anyway I guess the women would be classed as "sex workers" and not victims of serial rape Hmm

Ereshkigal · 19/06/2018 20:45

They should try to go after the punters too. Fuckers.

Fightthebear · 19/06/2018 21:18

Kikashi - yes, you’re right. I despair.

kikashi · 20/06/2018 11:17

This charmer in Birmingham got under 4 years for keeping his wife prisoner for 16 years, raping her and beating her with various pieces of furniture as well as his fists and was guilty of "child cruelty" which included hitting his daughter and threatening to cut her tongue out. There was a 2 year police investigation which resulted in this paltry sentence.
www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/midlands-news/violent-husband-kept-abused-wife-14802356

Again the problem seems to be what crime the accused was actually tried for so that although the accused raped and violently assaulted his wife and kept her prisoner for 16 years and was violent to his children he was only prosecuted for coercive and abusive behaviour (under a law introduced in 2015).

kikashi · 23/06/2018 16:41

Another day, another p*take of a "sentence". Well she had undercooked his chicken kiev.
