Anyone taking part in the Processions walk today? Have a great day!!!

OP posts:
LemonJello · 11/06/2018 08:00

bitch fest Hmm

I am a feminist and was probably one long before you were even born
Not so much.

and Trans women are women. Nope.

TinyRick · 11/06/2018 08:04

I will use whatever terminology I wish to be it TERF CIS, or bigot

It really is 'Us vs Them' with TRAs, isn't it. If you aren't trans you are against them.

And you complain about being called 'cult like' Hmm

Newsflash, you can't oppress yourself. Doesn't work that way.

ChattyLion · 11/06/2018 08:23

I thought about cancelling my plans to go to this, then I looked at the website which said it was an art project. Fine. But.. there would be no rally/ speeches at the end of the ‘march’, it said. So I didn’t go. They seemed to have hollowed out the politics.
I also noticed on the website it was for ‘self identified’ women. so I thought, my gratitude to the suffragettes doesn’t extend to supporting art projects (not political demonstrations) that want to be blandly ‘inclusive’ in this of all contexts.

I think it is a huge failure to ask women to give their time to do this but not to permit any speeches (!!) , when women as a category are being told to ‘enjoy ur erasure’, political parties are fucking over women who object, and kids are being fed harmful nonsense (literally). That said, I regret not going with a big sex not gender placard now..

bakingdemon · 11/06/2018 08:28

@whiteonred I posted to that effect on their Facebook item about it and got no response either. I couldn't go for family reasons but wouldn't have gone anyway for the same reason as you

OrchidInTheSun · 11/06/2018 08:33

A march to celebrate 100 years of women having the vote should be for women. Not for anyone who feels unhappy with the constraints of masculinity

Yes, I had similar feelings. The banners were fantastic but how many woman hours went into creating them, while our rights are being dismantled around us?

I loved the Leeds Spinners' banner though Grin

stargirl1701 · 11/06/2018 08:43

There were some gender critical banners in Edinburgh.

Cwenthryth · 11/06/2018 08:52

Ha that banner is fab

PositivelyPERF · 11/06/2018 08:52

PencilsInSpace that’s brilliant. They should have that made into good quality posters. I would definitely buy one and frame it.

ChiefClerkDrumknott · 11/06/2018 08:53

I boycotted for the same reason and told them why on their Facebook page. I asked them to define woman, got their ridiculous, non-man response then told them why I would not be attending. Didn’t get a response Hmm

boatyardblues · 11/06/2018 09:02

A group of my friends marched and I had an open onvite to join them, but my ambivalence about the inclusion of self-identifying women & lack of childcare for my youngest (male) child killed any enthusiasm I had for the event. Interesting that women with male children and no childcare were excluded. Almost as if no-one had thought to impact assess the inclusion criteria. Hmm

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 11/06/2018 09:08

They didn't allow male children?

drspouse · 11/06/2018 09:08

A local Muslim and Christian women's group was making a banner (I'm not sure who took it), but they always have their sewing sessions at a time convenient for elderly women but nobody else (daytime but after school so even if you are at home with a babe you'd have to take a school aged child) so I've got a bit fed up with that arm of the group.
But I thought it was a bit sad that some of the group might not have been able to go on the march given who it was advertised for.

Theinconstantgardener · 11/06/2018 09:13

whiteonred
Didnt go for same reasons.

Theinconstantgardener · 11/06/2018 09:27

mums net, which labels Trans Gender women as perverts child abusers and a cult movement, I think the words I use are quite apt
giddy
Please refer to the exact posts that do this.

I am not a cis woman. Just woman is fine thanks.

ChattyLion · 11/06/2018 09:32

Star Grin Leeds Spinners

gendercritter · 11/06/2018 09:46

The Leeds Spinners banner is marvellous! Star

ToeToToe · 11/06/2018 10:27

Love love love the Leeds Spinners banner Star

That should be our motto.

Procrastinator1 · 11/06/2018 10:43

According to the Processions web-site it was organised by Artichoke which is a "National Portfolio Organisation"(?), a registered charity which receives regular funding from the Arts Council. It also seems to be supported by the National Lottery, Department for Digital, Media and Sport, Bloomberg Philanthropies, and Nat West. Perhaps Nat West, as the body most affected by ordinary consumers, should be asked about this "non man" response etc

ChattyLion · 11/06/2018 11:22

Confused there wasn’t anything on the art project website about not allowing male children. How could there be any exclusion of male children or any male who wanted to come along, if males (who feel they are female) are explicitly made welcome to march with women?

concretesieve · 11/06/2018 11:46

Also cheered off and should have looked at the website earlier. Project headed by a bloke and research, IMO, is risible.

I'm very strongly of the view that suffragists contributed at least as much as suffragettes and the 'green, white and violet' thing is nonsense*. WSPU colours were purple, white and green; their motto 'Deeds, Not Words' and the general slogan ' Votes for Women' - NOT 'Give Women Votes'.

  • IIRC, this started circulating on the web about ten years ago and there's no evidence for it at all.
ChattyLion · 11/06/2018 13:00

Yup i was also a bit surprised to see a man spearhead this project.
Not questioning his competency or empathy but just as a symbolic thing (within what is literally, a purely symbolic project) you would have hoped that they could have found a woman to be in charge of this.

vaginafetishist · 11/06/2018 13:05

Boycotted for the same reason.

boatyardblues · 11/06/2018 13:08

Perhaps it was overzealous organisation by our local co-ordinator then. Was definitely presented as a “women & girls only” event.

boatyardblues · 11/06/2018 13:14

Nope, just checked the processions site and it clearly states its a public artwork invovling women & girls with the asterisk for self-ID women explanation.
