We see you, left-wing men

I’m pretty far to the left, politically. And will be staying that way no matter what men on the left do, because my political philosophy isn’t dependent on them.

I know there’s a looooong history of feminists getting fed up with the sexism of left-wing blokes and walking out to form their own movement, all the way back to the 19th century. But for a good few years there I was kidding myself that it’s different these days. These men call themselves feminists, they certainly aren’t old-fashioned sexists any more, blah blah blah.

(I did start questioning things around the Julian Assange rape accusations when so many ‘feminist’ men were spitting foam-flecked rage about how it was all so obviously lies, but even this didn’t wake me up.)

So I’d like to thank gender identity ideology, and all those left-wing men who are either mysteriously silent or actively putting the boot into feminists. This ideology made me see that not only are these men not on our side any more, but they never really were in the first place. They don’t think we’re oppressed as a class at all. It’s been a bit shit to realise this but I’m glad I finally did.

And the Nordic model is choosy choose for women. They aren't criminalized, they aren't arrested or shamed. The punters are. So that should be fine with lefty men. But it's not... for some reason...

I think InfiniteSheldon was on to something with her initial post.

I'd also suggest that the Left Wingers tend to be more ideological and the Centre/Right Wingers more pragmatic (a very broad brush I know but, essentially, if there's a clash between the ideology and its real-life consequences then it's the ideology that needs to change for the latter camp. For the former camp this would be heresy).

On a personal level, the rigidity of a lot (not all) of Left Wingers mean that I don't feel like I'm one of them, whereas the fact that I favour more of a safety net than a lot of small-state Right Wingers means that I'm not completely at home there either.

Confusing times, though it makes me value somewhere like here where I can shoot the breeze with a bunch of critical thinkers who'll agree or disagree in perfect civility (well, mostly perfect civility).

Hi terry i seem to have stole your name - I didn't realise - I'll change

AnyFucker · 09/06/2018 20:39

God, Andrea Dworkin really got it didn't she ?

Pratchet · 09/06/2018 20:40

I can't sorry. Will do password later.

MrsTerryPratchett · 09/06/2018 20:44

@Pratchet

There can never be too many Pratchetts. So don't sweat it! The more the merrier!

Pratchet · 09/06/2018 22:24

Ah thank you and Flowers!

ALittleAubergine · 09/06/2018 22:35

Men in misogyny shocker... But I don't agree with those here who say one form of misogyny is better than another.

I think that is because we women very much want a team to be on, whereas the lefty d00dz and the right wing men view us as the ball they are playing for possession of.

Terfulike · 10/06/2018 00:38

Very important thread this.

Terfulike · 10/06/2018 02:50

Having read this thread for the first time...

I did leave Labour when lots of us did. And I stopped attending the local momentum meetings mainly due to conflicting schedules.

But, I'm actually pretty gobsmacked by this thread. I already realised what a prat Owen Jones was and how the guardian had changed beyond recognition.

But it's really made me think about leftie men (particularly about my exes).

I don't think I'll ever be the same after this thread.

Pluckedpencil · 10/06/2018 06:10

Have we got a time in history where a feminist political party would get a shtload of traction? I'm talking the type of traction the Greens get. We are fifty percent of the population after all.

Pluckedpencil · 10/06/2018 06:12

Something not even too radical, just, you know, we will look at all issues through the eyes of a female for the first time, no need to burn your bra.

Pratchet · 10/06/2018 06:18

No. Most people think it's niche. Such a lovely idea though. If WEP went gender critical it would mop up right now, but the TRA got hold of it so early, I don't think that's possible.

hazeyjane · 10/06/2018 08:32

Interesting thread

Love the picture Elen posted.

I don't know if any one follows Graham Linehan (@Glinner) of Father Ted fame, on Twitter. He is getting a bit of a kicking for his retweets of gender critical articles and talking about self id

pachyderm · 10/06/2018 08:52

I love Glinner. I suspect a strong woman (

pachyderm · 10/06/2018 08:56

Posted too soon! Was going to say a strong woman, most likely his wife, had talked to him about this- he seemed to get it very early on. What was it he said to the TRA bullies demanding whether he believed transwomen were women?

"The answer is no, you fucking useless woke versions of religious police.. ."
