I won't comment on the article now, except to say it made my heart pound to read it in a mainstream political paper.

I presume it’s Reynholm’s (surprise trans) lady friend in the IT Crowd which is drawing some of the ire for Lineham. DH watched some old episodes last weekend and said he didn’t think a character like Reynholm himself would make the cut now because of Weinstein and #metoo.

terryleather · 18/05/2018 08:35

I follow GL on the twitter and don't always agree with him but I noticed ages back that he had been interacting positively with Rebecca Reilly-Copper so was hopeful plus his stance on Repeal The Eighth...am Grinwith his tweeting of Magdalen.

...waves at Plectrum and Assigned!

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 18/05/2018 08:53

Waves back at Terry and Plectrum !!!

Juells · 18/05/2018 09:20

@boatyardblues

It’s interesting to see Lineham has gone from cautiously dipping his toe in the water fairly recently to fully embracing the debate.

Anyone who believes in 'fairness', who isn't just trying to appear woke and lefty, will be on the side of lesbians at the moment. The pressure on them to give in to men's demands is horrifying.

I did laugh out loud when Magdalen Bern said, in the video, that she'd never have known Riley was a trans woman.

PlectrumElectrum · 18/05/2018 10:49

Waves frantically back at Assigned & terry

I'll be in touch with you both at some point over the w/e WinkGrin

terryleather · 18/05/2018 11:07

Plectrum Grin

JoanSummers · 18/05/2018 13:42

Has anyone tweeted Glinner some Peach Yoghurt?

I have a vague recollection of him being pretty anti-radical feminist a few years back on twitter. It's an interesting and welcome turnaround he is having but it would be good to also see him acknowledge things he has said in the past that have been dismissive or derogatory to women fighting what he now agrees is regressive nonsense.

Thank you for posting this. Really good article and I've subscribed on the strength of it.

Theswaggyotter · 18/05/2018 16:54

Fantastic article and also another great video by Magdalen Berns

Juells · 18/05/2018 17:08

@JoanSummers

it would be good to also see him acknowledge things he has said in the past that have been dismissive or derogatory to women fighting what he now agrees is regressive nonsense.

Yes, any potential allies should be made to admit they were previously wrong, and do a public penance 😂

JoanSummers · 18/05/2018 17:20

It's not about being wrong. It is about treating feminists badly and contributing to a lefty culture that insinuates we are bigots and that our concerns are bullshit. It would be good if he acknowledged he was wrong to do that. I don't think he should be punished for having done that but it does cloud my personal opinion of him.

I wish I could remember what the episode was about specifically but all I remember was that I liked Father Ted and that he was in my favourite episode of Alan Partridge, and that at the time I was really disappointed to see him speak to women badly. This was all on Twitter and I wasn't part of the conversation.

Juells · 18/05/2018 17:25

Why rake it up now? None of us would even know that he held a different opinion in the past if you hadn't spelled it out. People are allowed educate themselves on a subject and change their opininon without having to forever afterward apologise for not having understood the intricacies. You're being ridiculous.

JoanSummers · 18/05/2018 17:33

As I just stated, it's not about changing an opinion it's about previous treatment of feminists and their concerns. Changing his mind about trans issues doesn't mean he has learned to treat women with more respect.

I disagree that it's ridiculous to pay attention to the way men treat women. And I'm not inclined to continue a discussion with someone who prefers to throw straw around rather than actually engage with what is being said.

OP posts:
Juells · 18/05/2018 17:55

I'm not throwing straw, I'm simply disagreeing with you.

FloraFox · 18/05/2018 18:16

Linehan blocked me on twitter years ago despite me never having interacted with him. I think he was using a terf blocker. Some prominent journo feminists pointed this out to him but I’m still blocked so I don’t think he removed it. I don’t expect anyone to do penance for changing their minds but it’s fair enough to point out that he was previously a bit of a dick on the topic. In fact it gives hope for the men currently being dicks, that they might engage their brains and think for themselves.

FloraFox · 18/05/2018 18:17

I mean they pointed out he was using a terf blocker not that he’d blocked me, in case that’s not clear.

MrGHardy · 18/05/2018 18:51

I follow a lot lesbian twitter accounts. The abuse they suffer is incredible while simultaneously being told they are the evil ones for rejecting penis.

I have no clue what LGBT organizations are doing. It's insane.

Juells · 18/05/2018 19:02

@MrGHardy

I have no clue what LGBT organizations are doing. It's insane.

Same, I follow various radfems and I'm so amazed at how brave they are. I can't believe the way the LGB organisations only care about the T. It's as if the G section always hated lesbians because they were women, and now they finally have a good excuse to fuck them over. I've lost all respect for them.

You can't depend on men to protect women from abuse, women have to do it.

nauticant · 18/05/2018 21:08

I feel like I shouldn't say this but looking at social media discussing gender issues over the past year, I cannot help being struck by how many of the G appear to hate women.

I'm mean there's plenty of "ohh, my lovely sisters" but there's also a surprising amount of masks that slip.

PositivelyPERF · 18/05/2018 22:17

It’s the all to common attitude of some men ‘I love women because of what they can do for ME’ When women are putting women first, then that ‘love’ is withdrawn and very quickly turns to hate.

thebewilderness · 20/05/2018 02:11

5th rule of misogyny: Women and Feminism must be useful to men or they are worthless.

RatRolyPoly · 22/05/2018 15:02

I simply disagree with her personal opinion, based on the experiences of those close to me within the LGBT movement (they are mostly L and a few G).

Er, Juzza, you're weaving an argument out of very little there. God, why are you even doing it?

I was asked in what way I didn't agree with Kathleen, I explained. I know it's none of my business - I wouldn't otherwise have stated it - and as for "a wonderful ally to my lesbian friends"; the point I was making was ^I have no insight into this, but my lesbian and gay friends don't want the two separated, therefore I don't agree with people who do".

That quite categorically is being an ally to their opinions and the authority with which they hold them.

Christ, I thought that was clear enough. Not everything has to be a massive antagonism.

lightthedarkness · 22/05/2018 15:08

So pleased this thread is being bumped - let's keep this title near the top of the board - right where it belongs! Just as a reminder about what is actually happening - right now.
