(Apologies if this has already been posted on an existing thread)

I won't comment on the article now, except to say it made my heart pound to read it in a mainstream political paper.

Looks good, can't read it all because The Spectator says I've read my 3 articles this week (I haven't!) so if anyone can c&p I'd be grateful Wink

Ragusa · 17/05/2018 00:47

Excellent article. And I say that as a doubter of some radfem perspectives on transpeople. So well written.

Ereshkigal · 17/05/2018 00:49

It is. Great article.

James Kirkup that is ... does anyone know WHY he has become so interested in the issue? Just good journalism? ... which it is of course (and I cannot understand why others don't see this as the biggest political/sociological issue of our time ... at least in the developed world).... or personal passion/championing or ????

TerfAndSerf · 17/05/2018 02:29

Sorry about that.

Mumsnet limits a message to 15,000 characters.

When I tried to include all the links in the article, the limit set wouldn't let me post.

Also apologies for any spacing errors, I did this on my phone. Blush

loveyouradvice · 17/05/2018 02:38

terfandsurf Flowers for pasting all those fab links....

Seriously James Kirkup is SUCH a supporter - so eminently reasonable... all he is doing is showing what is actually happening and saying that it is important that it is properly debated, without discussion being shut down by fears of being accused of "transphobia"

Destinysdaughter · 17/05/2018 03:21

I just saw this on Twitter. What a fantastic article, he really seems to get it, doesn't he? Well done that man!

IdentifiesAsMiddleAged · 17/05/2018 05:52

Thanks again James for an excellent, cogent article. He's definitely on here

picklemepopcorn · 17/05/2018 06:25

When you read that, the linguistic gymnastics involved are so clear. An articulate journalist having to use clunky 'work arounds' - "some lesbians who say they are attracted to people with female genitals".

It's like teaching RE at school. 'Some Christians believe that...'

ReluctantCamper · 17/05/2018 06:29

such a good article, and a useful reminder about the commons debate on homophobia, transphobia and biphobia. I'll be looking out for news of that today.

Interesting man who sure can write an enjoyable and well thought out piece.

Imchlibob · 17/05/2018 07:07

Excellent journalism.
Have TRAs denounced him as a transphobe who should DIAF?

RatRolyPoly · 17/05/2018 07:17

Well I don't agree with Masoud, or the personal opinion of that academic philosopher, but I do agree with the author.

Wanderabout · 17/05/2018 07:30

Peter Kyle MP is talking about homophobia in parliament today. It would be great if he (or any MPs) mentioned the lesbophobia and concerns covered in this article.

Anyone on twitter who feels strongly about it, worth tweeting him and/or your MP

Kyanite · 17/05/2018 07:35

Reminds me of Silence of the Lambs...must watch that again!

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 17/05/2018 07:39

That was a very good article. Calm, measured and factual.

AngryAttackKittens · 17/05/2018 07:53

Kirkup is doing consistently solid work on this issue and has been for a while. I wonder if he's getting any pressure about it? If not that doesn't reflect well on similarly placed journalists who aren't as willing as he is to cover this. Why is it just him and Janice Turner (who as a woman will no doubt be getting nastier feedback than he is)?

wigglybeezer · 17/05/2018 07:53

He uses good, plain English too, makes a nice change from " word salad".

merrymouse · 17/05/2018 08:20

Not great to c&p the entire article - Brilliant as he is, James Kirkup still needs to eat and the paywall is there so that the Spectator can earn revenue to pay journalists.

Polynerd · 17/05/2018 08:27

AIBU to be slightly in love with James Kirkup?

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 17/05/2018 08:29

It is a brilliant article. Thank you James, I know you read Mumsnet.

But we should be fair to James and his editor, we should NOT paste the article here - his paper does need to get the hits. Can the posters of the article please ask MN to delete it please. You can read it free (3 per month)

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 17/05/2018 08:29

Sorry that was to @TerfAndSerf
