Hi as all the threads are on one topic I have taken to reading threads from the beginning of this forum and the diversity in topics is really heartening and interesting to read does anyone else read them.

Is boat person a typo? If not, so am I.

AngryAttackKittens · 21/04/2018 09:36

I am sadly not a boat person. In theory it sounds lovely, but spending the whole time wanting to puke spoils the experience a bit.

Bespin · 21/04/2018 09:39

Hi no not a typo 14 years on boats love it would not live anywhere else been trying to find other threads on it on here.

I also get sea sick on proper boats

No, I never read very old threads unless it's come up on a Google for a specific topic. I've never browsed the old feminist ones (not actually sure how to do that on the phone app).

I'm very interested in the current hot topic, but it can get very frustrating, especially if you spend any time on Twitter. Sometimes I get so angry at the rudeness, mud-slinging and threats towards feminists that I need to step away for a little while from time to time. So then I actively seek out other feminist topics to learn about.

I agree it's bad form to resurrect zombie threads, but I'm sure there are some very good older threads that newer members like myself have missed out on. If you find one you want to discuss, you can start a new topic and post a link.

Bespin so you’re not content with telling people they’re getting womaning wrong on twitter you’ve decided to come to the “source” and tell us we’re getting feminism wrong? Being coy about what you want to say is childish, why not say out loud that you need feminism to centre men?

I’m astounded you have time for this given all the threats you make to ManFriday chaps of reporting them to the authorities and mansplaining feminism to them.

Bespin · 21/04/2018 09:53

Ya thanks Robin I agree that somethings are really interesting and I like to learn about things I don't know about and expand my knowledge on things there are always these periods where one topic dominates I understand that. Definitely will not be resurecting zombie threads who knew they were called that.

I have very occasionally read the old threads yes so I do know a bit what ypu mean, I think. I have been an on and off lurker for many years and do see a change in the range of topics- or possibly that the same topics are here but more people are posting and the board is busier. Which is a good thing.
My eyes were certainly opened to the trans issues on this board and I do think it is one of the major threats to womens rights in our life time so it isn't surprising there is more on this topic. My own view is probably harder in line than some on this board due to my own experience. For instance I would not accept a transwoman with surgery and a GRC as a woman in most circumstances regardless of the self ID issues.
However, I do miss some of the old regualr posters such as Buffy's careful explanations of epistemology which I think would be a useful perspective that isn't discussed as much. Especially when those ideas are used to such devastating effect by TRAs. I don't pretend to understand it well but I think there is a point to the idea that all ideas are socially constructed - but it isn't saying that there isn't an underlying reality there, or even that all ideas are equal.
Having said that, I don't see any reason why people can't post those ideas on this board and start their own threads. See - I just have. I think there is always a feeling that FWR is not 'nice' enough and I disagree with that on many levels.

I'm not sure what the point of this thread is OP.

But if it helps, I am very much looking forward to a time when the female sex have won inalienable rights and protections in the law again. We had them of course, but the law inadvertently didn't specify watertight definitions of sex, female, woman, gender and that allowed men to exploit an enormous loophole whereby laws intended for ACTUAL biological females were perverted into laws for ANYONE CALLING THEMSELF WOMAN.

A bit like a game of Simon Says where you lose by not noticing that SIMON didn't say it. Haha its says women in that law but it didn't define woman properly so anyone can be a woman, you lose!

So now we're in a position of starting from scratch to win our rights back, and this time to be very clear that since we ARE A SEX we need to be defined AS A SEX.

Since there are literally no feminist issues to fight for when there is no recognition of what female means, we're all back at ground zero trying to get our existence written back into our laws.

Thanks for that, men.

But when we've achieved that, I will deffo have more time to chat about other feminist issues.

I may take a break instead though.

I never go further back than the first 2 pages, OP. I'm like you though in that I don't start threads, just chip in when I feel there's something I want to say. I don't think there's anything wrong with that though, it's just like conversations in real life. Some people start them, other people respond.
