Dear MNHQ

I'm very grateful for the commitment to free speech you've publicly taken, and for Justine's courage this week.

A former disgruntled employee of MN is writing on Twitter about the 'transphobia' of MN staff, and calling you TERFs. She is showing a great deal of bias and intolerance towards women with feminist views, this may well be her honest opinion, which is no big deal I suppose, since she is no longer an employee.

At least, it isn't an issue until she calls a shout out to her
'friends who still work at MN' to report and take down posts by 'transphobic scum', by which she appears to be referring to any poster objecting to being called TERF by her friend.

Regardless of the personal views of the MNHQ staff, who should be as free to hold their own views as I am mine, I am disturbed that there may be a small contingent of employees who are invested in unfair moderation and will not be applying fair-handed principles, at least if the claims of this ex-employee are credible.

Can you please give posters some reassurance that the difficult job of fair-handed moderation isn't being abused by the 'friends' of ex-employees who are 'reporting it all' and taking down posts because any gender criticism means the poster is 'transphobic scum'?

Thank you.

How can @JustineMumsnet be so confident she hasn't passed our details to TRA's?

ILikeyourHairyHands · 18/04/2018 22:16

Apologies for the mangled syntax there. Wine has been taken.

SomeRandomBird · 18/04/2018 22:17

The problem Mumsnet now has is Emma's original post and screenshots may be reproduced in the national press due to the data breach - minus the IP addresses of course - and the extent of the transphobia on Mumsnet will be exposed. Not an enviable position to be in.

Battleax · 18/04/2018 22:17

She IS a TRA. Let’s be clear about that.

ThisisSparta · 18/04/2018 22:17

Well I think that EHs twitter account in which she was so gleefully bragging about how she had access to inside information doesn’t really square with a ‘wholehearted apology’, and does suggest that data was taken on purpose.

And like pps it reminds me too of the ‘pretty data’ comments, which suggests that it is being encouraged that people who disagree with the TRAs should have personal information about them collected and stored.

This isn’t a novel, or a plot in a film, this is real life, right now. I worry that the rights of women, and transwomen are being eroded because some men can’t handle women defining their own boundaries.

sted, pages and pages back, that a data breach has to be reported within 24 hours of it coming to the attention of the company

Does it? I thought the ICO says that you don't have to report breaches

ico.org.uk/media/for-organisations/documents/1536/breach_reporting.pdf

"Although there is no legal obligation on data controllers to report
breaches of security which result in loss, release or corruption of
personal data, the Information Commissioner believes serious
breaches should be brought to the attention of his Office"

Truscum · 18/04/2018 22:19

SomeRandomBird no one has actually pointed out what is transphobic about any of those screenshots yet to me.

Would you be so kind?

merrymouse · 18/04/2018 22:19

it sends a clear message that anyone with a TRA agenda will not be held accountable for their criminal behaviour.

Or strong feelings on abortion, veganism, religion, politics, (loobrushes) or any of the other controversial subjects discussed on MN - by people who also share details of their children’s schools, abusive relationships, custody battles and health scares.

Battleax · 18/04/2018 22:20

GrinGrinGrin

You’re quite right, of course; The non-existent “extent of transphobia on MN” could get quite a wide airing. I expect the TRAs will indeed be disappointed. I won’t envy them Wink

What do you think is transphobic about the screenshots Emma posted? What specifically do you have a problem with?

ScreenQueen · 18/04/2018 22:21

@HairyBallTheorem

I did this after the last hack, no probs. Yes I've sacrificed my secret santa options Wink but I don't trust that MN has sufficient technological capability to protect my personal data. I do rather like it here so this was the best workaround.

IntelligentYetIndecisive · 18/04/2018 22:22

Neither her LinkedIn and Twitter accounts exist any more.

However, her picture is still up, as she was a rep in her Student Union and was interviewed for itv News as well as writing for her university student newspaper.

Google is pulling up cached information but clicking the links shows accounts deleted.

What a twit.

I'm not involved in the data breach, but I believe this is an ICO matter now. 😟

PleaseDontGoadTheToad · 18/04/2018 22:22

Would you be so kind?

I don't think she will @Truscum. Which is a bit rude when you think about it.

merrymouse · 18/04/2018 22:23

None of the posts on MN are secret. They are regularly featured in the national press. There is nothing to be exposed.

WhereistheVicksgone · 18/04/2018 22:23

Out of interest why does it put posters in danger if their IP address is known? ignorant Blush

Fret you not. After penis beaker I think we're all aware that MN see all clicks as good clicks.

Vexatious · 18/04/2018 22:26

MN is an open Forum for anyone to read.

Yes. The way some go on you'd swear MN was like trying to enter a Masonic lodge, rather than it being web pages that are perfectly accessible to all. Nothing is being concealed. That's why there was no 'whistleblowing' as her friends tried to nobly slant it.

Is Emma related to Justine?

Truscum · 18/04/2018 22:28

PleaseDontGoadTheToad shocking isn’t it?

Well, I guess I just belong to that subset of trans people that it is ok to be rude to and offend.

Don’t they know offence literally kills people.

.....

Oo, look at that, I didn’t even melt or anything. It’s ok everyone, I’m ok.

Let’s just hope no one disagrees with me in a parking thread now or it might finish me off.
