"Transgender runners will be able to compete as their self-identified gender in the Boston Marathon on Monday, 16 April."

The article concludes:
"Perhaps critics concerned about fair competition when trans women run as women should turn their attention to the dehydration, reduced stamina and dizziness caused by treatments such as testosterone blockers. "

why do I have a warning sign on this thread rather than a secure symbol? On other threads I have the padlock

Yes, I've noticed that too. Earlier I had such difficulty with the site that I wondered if it had been hacked. Paranoia.

R0wantrees · 11/04/2018 19:28

there was an interesting comment by a chap who had been a decent runner... said something about how he wouldn't run as a woman as he felt that would be cheating....

BlackeyedSusan · 11/04/2018 19:28

The other thread was goady. Have mnhq said why as I am struggling to understand the rules if they are not written out clearly. Expecting everyone to be able to guess the meaning of unclear guidelines is unfair and possibly lacking understanding of some conditions such as autism.

misscockerspaniel · 11/04/2018 19:30

Thanks for posting the Fox News link. The comments are also very telling. Sport is peak transing people.

thebewilderness · 11/04/2018 19:34

As the governing bodies of sports in the US and internationally change the rules to replace females in sports with males who identify as women it becomes clear how very very much men resented Title IX requirements and the inclusion of women in an area that they viewed as their own exclusive milieu.

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 11/04/2018 19:43

What was the problem with the orginal thread? MNHQ, can you advise? I saw nothing wrong with it. Would like to know so as another thread won't be deleted having been live for half the day

FeministBadger · 11/04/2018 19:45

Serena Williams stated that if she competed as a man she'd rank around 350th - the best female tennis player for decades and she'd be a complete unknown. Who wants to live in that world apart from misogynists?

ReluctantCamper · 11/04/2018 19:49

yes, misscockerspaniel, I think it is so very obviously unfair.

TBH, I don't take part in competitive sport, so while I understand a bit how unbelievably unfair it must feel to the biological female competitors, I also feel a bit pleased in a way.

This is a really public way of showing how unfair the ideology that men can become women is to women.

Being intimidated in a public toilet can be read as very 'she said', 'they said' by people with little interest in empathising with women, but this is obvious, public and incontrovertible.

Floisme · 11/04/2018 19:51

From what I saw of the original thread, I would say there was one specific sentence in the op that was deemed goady. MNHQ said feel free to start the thread again.

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 11/04/2018 20:01

Why can't they just delete the sentence in question? They do it with thread titles?

That thread made my cry this morning. I admit, I was invested in it. The whole thing is a scandal.

As for the mention of competitive sport, it's not necessarily about that. I run in a Women's 10K each year. Some of the women are very serious about their time. These are ordinary women, dedicated to their time.

You could argue that a transwoman running in this race makes no difference, but it does.

It does matter if you are placed 10th or even 20th and then you start to get bumped by males running it. It might motivate you if you are bumped by other women, but it's just dispiriting to be bumped by males on a women's race, especially as there will be no fucking way to know, from the stats, which were 'previously men'.

For the record, there is also a Men's 10K every year.

I am becoming very resentful about all this crap. It's simply not fair.

BrashCandicoot · 11/04/2018 20:05

I posted in the last thread to say that the winners of the 2017 mens and womens races got the following times:

Men: 2:09:37
Women: 2:21:52

The whole of the top 15 of the Mens race would have completed the marathon before the winner of the Womens race crossed the line.

Datun · 11/04/2018 20:05

I can't remember all my post. But it's pretty obvious we are going backwards.

Women's sport was deemed boring and unnecessary.

It still is unnecessary, except as someone to subvert and put back firmly in the male arena.

The Boston Marathon has only allowed women to run officially for less than 50 years.

A woman having the audacity to partake in a manly sport like running was beyond the pale. And not to be born.

Goady? Really? ffs

I thought it said "there go women's records" - which is absolutely true. Women's sporting records will fall like skittles, just as they did when all the Eastern Europeans took the athletic medals back in the 70s and 80s. Before sex testing and testosterone testing came in properly.

=================
@BrashCandicoot previously posted this:

The winning times of last years Boston Marathon:

Men's open: 2:09:37
Women's open: 2:21:52

A full 12 minutes difference.

@0phelia I can't remember my original comment but feel free to add it back in.

As requested:
"It's all very focused on testosterone levels, as if in their brave new world the only difference between men and women is testosterone levels so if a man takes testosterone blockers then there is no difference between them and women at all. ..

It's as though there's no such thing as men having greater muscle and bone density and longer limbs and greater efficiency in transferring oxygen to muscle and better lung capacity and all of those basic physiological male advantages...

Why can't trans women just compete as men ffs they still get the glory of finishing the marathon. No one wants them to be excluded as themselves. Why do they have to trample over women in the process?"

I read about this story and that picture is showing the official (oldish guy) trying to pull the number off her back, the guy leaping in on her right is her footballer boyfriend, he pushes the official to the kerb.

Once mainstream sport activities like this start to get completely trashed in this way, more men like that will step up.

ShotsFired · 11/04/2018 20:24

@BlackeyedSusan The other thread was goady. Have mnhq said why as I am struggling to understand the rules if they are not written out clearly.

To be fair to MNHQ, it was probably one specific comment I made in relation to the conclusion para about the trans women entrants (which I have changed in this repost). I was annoyed and probably should have been less obviously so.

The man attacking her is a race official.

"Perhaps critics concerned about fair competition when trans women run as women should turn their attention to the dehydration, reduced stamina and dizziness caused by treatments such as testosterone blockers."
Why in the world is anyone concerned about being fair to women, eh?

R0wantrees · 11/04/2018 20:33

it seemed to me quite an important thread, thank you for keeping a copy of it @ShotsFired.. I think I've remembered some of what I posted but not entirely sure.
Anyway the thread prompted me to think that maybe it would be good for those involved in particular sports to contact the regulatory bodies to see what measures (if any) were in place to support women and girls as well as those people who are transgender...

Juells · 11/04/2018 20:34

I'm amazed there's been only one comment on that article. I wonder if the Indy is censoring heavily? Surely more than one person had something to say?

R0wantrees · 11/04/2018 20:35

For example, this is RFU's policy (some parts still under review).. www.englandrugby.com/about-the-rfu/rfu-inclusion-programmes/gender/

ShotsFired · 11/04/2018 20:42

With @Rufustherenegadereindeer1's permission, I am reposting her comments from the previous thread:

=====================
I feel their pain

I am assuming that no medication ever taken by a woman or a man has ever caused any of those things

Its just testosterone blockers

Nothing else could ever cause those problems

No medical issues would make someone dizzy and dehydrated either

Ever
