Focus
Policy priorities for transgender equality - looking at key issues around inclusion, rights and services.

To note:
As departments across Government examine the future of policy and practice in the area of transgender rights, there has been strong interest from officials with representatives due to attend from the Cabinet Office; CAFCASS; Crown Prosecution Service; Defra; Department for Education; Department of Health and Social Care; DWP; Government Equalities Office; HMPPS; HMRC; Home Office; MoJ; Ofsted; Royal Air Force; The Insolvency Service and the Welsh Government.

Context:
• Takes place in the context of Brexit and uncertainty around the future of existing equality legislation such as the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union;
• Follows the Government proposals to streamline and de-medicalise the process for changing gender as part of plans to reform the Gender Recognition Act;
• Comes as NHS England prepares to respond to its consultation on how Gender Identity Clinics will deliver specialised outpatient services and how surgical units will deliver surgical interventions; and
• Follows reports that some transgender people are waiting over two years for an initial consultation with an NHS Gender Identity Clinic.

Key areas for discussion
• Priorities for transgender physical and mental health;
• Transgender equality in the workplace and how employers can support transition;
• Tackling key issues in the criminal justice system;
• How schools and universities might best create inclusive environments;
• Transgender coverage and representation in the media; and
• Next steps for policy.

•Follows reports that some transgender people are waiting over two years for an initial consultation with an NHS Gender Identity Clinic.

Wonderful! How many people are aware that suicidal non trans children are waiting over two years to be seen by camhs services who then don’t want to know?

This meeting represents men who are anxious to organise and provide for themselves and the rest of the population can go hang. No change there then.

newtlover · 06/04/2018 13:29

so is this an open event?

Lovelyusername · 06/04/2018 13:32

Considering the number of people who want to de-transition, you would that they’d want to cover that area.

DNAnotGRA · 06/04/2018 13:46

Indeed @Lovelyusername, those voices are essential - it would be helpful if James Caspian, Transgender Trend et al were also invited to talk
