Just saw this on the sun website.
Looks like harassment scared Millwall.

Okay, so it's not WPUK, sorry. But you get the drift. Maybe they need a HOC venue too :-)

Yes, I've seen lots of accusations of violence and threats and hate mail directed at trans people from feminists in the last twelve hours. No one seems willing to actually give concrete examples or prove their accusations, and there are few and far between voices asking them to do so. Lots of handwringing about how awful feminists are and support for poor vulnerable transactivists. Last I saw Andrew Gilligan was fending them off, but they were deliberately targeting their own MPs to step in and object to the HoC being used by a hate group. I am really hoping that MPs are sensible enough to see through it.
That said, it's not beyond the realms of possibility that people ARE receiving hate mail - it just isn't from anyone involved with WPUK. So it would be useful to be able to shine a light on some of these accusations, get it out into the open - and have it disproved. The only one I have actually seen is the stupid one that Paris Lees keeps using, with the gal with the baseball bat for self protection, claiming it's hate speak to say women have the right to protect themselves from attack. It's a far cry from 'let's go fuck up some TERFs', but there's a bit of hard of thinking about the whole thing.

Kneedeepinunicorns · 13/03/2018 14:28

The double standards are staggering. Angry

Calling someone (without a GRC who has done a lot of provocation) a 'nasty little man' isn't nice (and that was the omg example on that thread) - but it hardly compares with the die in a fire/rape/death threats that are two a penny all over the ruddy place. Which apparently is absolutely fine and justified.

Multiple screenshots of Terfisaslur.com needed.

Kneedeepinunicorns · 13/03/2018 14:35

Not to mention where is the evidence, anywhere, of gender critical feminists trying to prevent even the most obnoxious representatives of anything from speaking, disrupting meetings, trying to lobby to get them silenced or prosecuted?

They're asking to have a fucking voice, that's it. To be allowed to put their point of view. And just asking to do that is triggering overdramatic lying screeches of 'hate' and 'erasure' and 'trying to stop people being trans'. Lorry load of grips needed.

AnotherTerfyNameChange · 13/03/2018 17:20

I managed to get a ticket for HoC! Have emailed my MP but of course at such short notice she is busy, but I know she is on side (but not very vocal at the moment), and is interested to hear about the meeting. Hopefully it will be filmed, as the WPUK ones are, so she can see it online and see how peaceful it is.

There's a second meeting also happening nearby (secret venue at the moment) where Miranda and others will be hosting and the speakers will go there afterwards to speak as well. And everyone can gather there until closing time to have a social. Sounds like it's going to be a brilliant night.

@PosieParker will be speaking briefly so will be great to hear about her awful experience with West Yorks Police and what the next steps are. Looking forward to hearing Sheila Jeffries too; my mum (a 70s feminist) was delighted that Sheila is still active and well-respected.

Any other MNs going? Please say hi - I have a crutch and will be wearing this badge SmileSmile

I thought it may be helpful to hear how WPUK/GC meetings are viewed/described elsewhere. This is from a mainstream SM political discussion and the writer is politician and TRA.

"So for those unfamiliar with what’s going on here, there’s a group of transphobes who keep holding “meetings” which they goad people into protesting. If anyone does turn up, they then shove cameras in their faces (or genitals as recently happened!) until they provoke a reaction. They then use the reaction as an example of “Male violence”

One such event happened recently and resulted in two cis women having a scuffle in which I understand a pair of glasses was broken. Note there were literally no trans people involved in this at all - we’ve generally realised what the point of these “meetings” is and avoid them, so most people protesting them are cis.

Anyway, in response to the glasses thing, one of the transphobes posted the included screenshot. “TRA” is “trans rights activist” and “MRA” is “men’s rights activist”, but in this context they use it to refer to any trans woman who asks for equality."

  • screenshot inserted of a tweet which has being shared extensively as 'proof' and starts "women need to carry baseball bats to these meetings...." I think the person who posted it is actually in the US!
CunningOperative · 13/03/2018 19:09

@Datun which one are you going to?

Datun · 13/03/2018 19:27

I'm going to the first one. And maybe mosey along to the second one afterwards. It may be a toss up between that and the pub.

Datun · 13/03/2018 19:31

I've been told that banners, placards, or sloganed T-shirts are unacceptable.

And that security is interminable and forensic.

So the earlier you get there, the better.

This is the reason for the second meeting. In case the room cannot hold everyone.

AngryAttackKittens · 13/03/2018 19:31

Remember that TRAs consider "misgendering" to be "violence".

letsgetserious · 13/03/2018 19:41

What's going on with that wolf guy TRA who attacked the woman at speaker's corner? Are we still waiting for an outcome on that? Presumably the baseball bats tweet came after that?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 13/03/2018 20:35

He pled not guilty and is back on court in (I think) june

letsgetserious · 13/03/2018 20:45

Thanks ItsAllGoingToBeFine!

Resisting Hate is encouraging TRAs to bombard the HoC with protests.

I'm wondering how that's going to go? 🤔

EmpressOfJurisfiction · 15/03/2018 08:58

David Davies said last night that he'd never seen anything like the onslaught his office got (and apparently David Davis the brexit MP came in for a certain amount too) Grin

As for Millwall... they told Venice that as well as having concerns for the safety of their staff if the event went ahead (totally reasonable given the TRA record of violence) they were concerned for their reputation.

Yes, really.

hipsterfun · 15/03/2018 09:21

David Davies said last night that he'd never seen anything like the onslaught his office got

May explain why the woman I spoke to sounded a bit hesitant when I called yesterday afternoon to thank DD for hosting.

Flowers for DD’s office staff.

BoreOfWhabylon · 15/03/2018 12:26

I just called David Davies HoC office to pass on my thanks for him making a stand for free speech - got put through but the phone then rang out.

So I called his constituency office
Tel: 01291 672817
The woman there was v appreciative. Think it has been a rough ride for them these past few days.

beelzibub · 15/03/2018 12:59

I just called and thanked them too.

It's scary that a group have the power to shut down a debate like that.

hipsterfun · 15/03/2018 15:02

Thanks for posting the number, Bore.

I rang the HoC office yesterday but have just called the constituency office to thank them too. They’ve had lots of nice calls today Smile

missludgatecircus · 15/03/2018 15:41

I called the office just now and thanked the woman who answered the phone.
Good idea!

BrendasUmbrella · 15/03/2018 16:16

Resisting Hate is encouraging TRAs to bombard the HoC with protests.

I first read that as Raising Hate. Hmm.

OfficerGrant · 16/03/2018 19:53

What a lovely message DD office is getting then, us lot phoning to say polite thanks.

Versus Millwall being scared off by threats.

BTW is anyone going to the infant feeding appg at HoC next week?
Please message me if you are
