There is a reason you do get questioned about having surgery (or you are supposed to) even if you go private. You are supposed to understand the risks and the surgeon has to be satifised that you fully understand the implications so you don't sue their ass off later.
Its easy to say about how women in particular have been the victims of malpractice when this hasn't been done properly.
See the French breast implant scandal or when mesh implants were used and women were not properly advised of the risks and were frankly experimented on without giving proper consent for that.
If you are getting hormones, even if you are a woman, you get the third degree (and perhaps they will try and persuade you to use a coil or implant, even if you don't want a coil or implant and make that clear) because they had side effects, and given we don't know the long term effects of hormone use in the opposite sex, that's a pretty big deal.
Yet they don't want to do the research either. They just want the healthcare.
That kind of proves the point that perhaps they are not really capable of making an informed decision...
