Vince Smith is now Victoria Smith and is still attracted to women.

There's a surprise. Hmm

WhatOldmanOfTheWeb said.

I've never heard of the person in question but have no problem with his choice to transition. He's not hurting anyone and I don't see an issue.

HatsontheWardrobe · 18/02/2018 14:16

He's not hurting anyone and I don't see an issue.

Oh, I disagree. His comments are a dangerous precedent.

I give it a few weeks at most before a man defends his perving on women in changing rooms of e.g. La Senza with the defence that he's "envious" of the way they look in underwear cos he's always felt like a woman really. Angry

CobraKai · 18/02/2018 14:34

She said she's felt like this since the age of 5, felt like she'd been in prison for all that time not being able to be who she felt she was, tried desperately to act hard and macho, tried to suppress her feelings for decades and was terrified of being exposed. Never married or had children which may be unrelated to her transgenderism or may be very relevant.

That's a lot more than someone just wanting to put on make up and as far as I'm concerned she's a genuine transperson and I'm glad that she can now be who she is.

She made comments about make up and womens clothes but there's clearly a lot more to it than that - she could wear whatever she wanted at home without having to make such a massive change and take such a massive risk.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 18/02/2018 14:35

Yes i got that cobra

Thank you Smile

MarSeeAh · 18/02/2018 14:35

I don't understand why so many posters are basically shrugging and saying, what's the problem here?

This is yet another example of the way in which the trans narrative is being promoted and normalised.

It's yet another example of the lie that the only difference between a man and a woman are hairstyles, clothes and make-up.

The fact that this particular man has benefitted in his chosen sporting career simply by virtue of being male, is acknowledged by him and then completely ignored, sending the message, yet again, that women's oppression is just the way it is.

There is a problem here, and it's about much more than one man's preference for a skirt over trousers.

IntelligentYetIndecisive · 18/02/2018 14:50

Is he truly gender dysphoric? An autogynophile? A transvestite?

If all the recent publicity has emboldened the truly gender dysphoric to seek help, rather than suffer in silence, then fair play to them.

However, the quotes in the article don't make clear, if this is true gender dysphoria.

As HatsontheWardrobe pointed out, this article could also provide a perve with a perfectly good defence if arrested.

OP posts:
CobraKai · 18/02/2018 14:59

I think the article is highly suggestive of gender dysphoria.

And perves don't need this article at all nor are they likely to be inspired by it. They already have all the ammunition they need and it's the self-ID crowd that are the problem and going to use that to put women at risk.

IntelligentYetIndecisive · 18/02/2018 15:02

It's suggestive, but makes no mention of doctors, therapists or counselling.

It's almost self diagnosed.

OP posts:
CobraKai · 18/02/2018 15:07

You don't know that and there enough comments in there to correlate with DSM criteria. A 'classic' description you could even say.

thedancingbear · 18/02/2018 15:27

This transgender person is probably a sex pervert - Ding!

Trans people should not be allowed in the workplace - Ding!

Can someone now come on and compare them to paedophiles, please, and then we'll have a full set?

Not transphobic my arse.

HatsontheWardrobe · 18/02/2018 15:35

dancingbear I was quoting the article when I referred to Victoria as someone who "eyed up women", that is how his friends described him. He is quoted in the article as agreeing, saying that he'd "find himself looking at women".

Regardless of his motive, how do you think the women on the receiving end of those looks interpreted them?

CobraKai · 18/02/2018 16:13

I can only speak for me and I wouldn't give a shit about a man looking at me and never have.

Intimidating or harassing me then yes I've got a problem with that.

CobraKai · 18/02/2018 16:24

And no, his friends didn't say that at all if you read the article. It's something the journalist said 'his pals had no idea why he was really 'eyeing up the women'. It's not a quote from a friend. No friends are quoted other than texts they sent supporting Victorias transition.

WiggyPig · 18/02/2018 16:27

However, the quotes in the article don't make clear, if this is true gender dysphoria.

It's the Daily Record, not the bloody Lancet, what were you expecting? The tabloid press has always regarded women as tits and make-up, I'm not sure why they would suddenly recognise that women have an inner life when it comes to transwomen.

CobraKai · 18/02/2018 16:28

Wiggy Grin

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 18/02/2018 16:29

Fair comment wiggy

IntelligentYetIndecisive · 18/02/2018 17:27

True Wiggy, true.

I get that the OP's post was a bit snarky and that's not helpful to achieving our aims in awareness raising but women aren't perfect, we have off days, lose our tempers, roll our eyes and use sarcasm.

To be clear, I wasn't criticising the OP's post. It was just my general thoughts on the story.

As to women can be sarcastic? Nooooo.
