Why do transpeople not campaign for unisex facilities?

Or do they and I just haven't seen it?

If I was a transwoman with a penis my thoughts would go something like this.

'I don't want to use men's facilities because I don't feel like a man. I understand that some people feel that penises don't belong in the women's. But a unisex facility would mean I could use it and feel like a woman, and nobody who thought I was a man would be bothered I was in there'. Win win, surely?

Cerealcomplainer I think you might see the issue now, the problem seems to be that the women who object to transwomen using a women's toilet object to unisex toilets unless you have women's toilets and unisex toilets which feels a bit like having women's toilets and men's toilets.

Thehogfather · 17/02/2018 18:44

I'm guessing that back before the present bollocks of shitting on females, dressed up as trans rights, it wasn't really an issue, and the majority of trans women probably wanted to fly under the radar.

Now I imagine some won't for the same reason, not to mention the backlash from the trans activists at the idea they aren't biological women.

Even those that do probably don't get noticed over the loud voices of the trans activists. Who of course don't want them for all the reasons mentioned already.

That's what organisations are doing, taking away facilities from disabled people.

You know the actual oppressed people, the UN put the UK on notice for mistreatment!

The UN didn't put fucking TIM's on the condemnation, it's disabled people and our space was taken from plus to be the unisex TIM place. Yet we sit in our wheelchairs wet, in pain, in excrement waiting for breastfeeding baby changers, chances and TIM's in OUR space! No fucked cares about us in Diversity, it's all about the TIMs!

I agree, your space is not endlessly multipurpose. You are being heard. Not much else I can say

grannytomine · 17/02/2018 18:50

It shouldn't mean taking disabled toilets. I don't think this is down to transwomen, it is women objecting to transwomen and unisex toilets.

I do know the pressures on disabled toilets as I am my husband's carer and it is annoying when people have the attitude that people should use the disabled toilets.

OrderOnline · 17/02/2018 18:51

Labour and public organisations don't find disability exciting like trans, so mistreat us yet, further.

BigDeskBob · 17/02/2018 18:51

"If we go unisex then it should save money and everyone will benefit."

True, if by 'everyone' you mean abusive men.

OrderOnline · 17/02/2018 18:53

Use the colonisation of prams on the disabled space on the bus and UN condemnation of the way disabled people are treated in the UK against TRAs. Are they Fuck the most oppressed!

OrderOnline · 17/02/2018 18:56

TRAs are prams on the bus, to women and disabled people(UN report on disability in UK). Get the sympathy off TIM's.

Cerealcomplainer · 17/02/2018 19:06

Order disabled certainly should not be the unisex. That should be completely separate. And having a separate unisex should also mean the baby change comes out of disabled too. I completely agree with you it shouldn’t be there.

But if it comes to pass that ‘women’s’ means ‘women plus any men that want to be there’ I would rather it was labelled unisex. Removes the element of surprise, removes the ‘validation’ and is more honest.

I won't derail further, the point needs making as it's disabled women, men and children, as well as women and children being shoved under and off the bus by trans identified MRAs.

CougheeBean · 17/02/2018 19:12

I think a lot of people are in favour of unisex. Problem is that there aren’t very many at the moment and trans people still need to piss. Ideally without being beaten up by men, who tbh seem to be the main issue here.

OrderOnline · 17/02/2018 19:14

Disabled people need to pass in a safe place too, how the Fuck is a TIM less able to protect themselves less than someone in a wheelchair, do one TRA hairy hander!

OrderOnline · 17/02/2018 19:14

piss

Cerealcomplainer · 17/02/2018 19:14

Granny I can’t see why the fact that women may object to unisex toilets should stop trans people campaigning for them? If the campaign for them to be in addition to existing facilities?

And according to the Scots TRA guidance to schools, re name the disabled toilets where they are also the designated unisex toilet so the stigma of the word 'disabled' doesn't rub off on the trans kids. Angry

Where do you even start on all the things wrong with that?

When you look at the speed of what the TRA movement has achieved in a very short timespan, you see what happens (and who has the power and gets listened to) when an 'equality' movement is led by straight, white, able bodied men.

OrderOnline · 17/02/2018 19:21

Trans rights usurp women and disabled rights, because men are the most oppressed according to TRAs, public services and politicians. No wonder the UN condemned the UK!

Akire · 17/02/2018 19:24

I’m disabled i have a problem with unisex disabled toilets in that the seat is usual covered in pee. Or the seat is up! I appreciate additional needs may cause this but still it really is a down side of Disabled toilets. But still with men using more ladies you all can have this pleasure soon

Thehogfather · 17/02/2018 19:25

Of course they should use the disabled toilet in addition to the women's order. Both groups should make way for the menz.

Besides, they might now identify as disabled too so the cis disabled need to check their privilege.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 17/02/2018 19:28

I dont have a problem with unisex loos

I have a problem with the ladies being changed to unisex

Unisex loos ...separate cubicles off a corridor? No problem

OrderOnline · 17/02/2018 19:34

I would like a disabled toilet within the women's toilet block and TIMs kept out!

OrderOnline · 17/02/2018 19:36

Disabled women and children should never have been shoved to the side, we deserve to be included within society. Not the afterthought where you shove all and sundry whilst the disabled wait in discomfort, for the privileged to finish using our hard fought for space.

grannytomine · 17/02/2018 20:26

separate cubicles off a corridor? No problem and if some of the grotty old loos are replaced with modern facilities and cleaning was done regularly it would be great. If going unisex frees up enough money to make it happen then I think it would be great and no more agonising about if your opposite sex child is old enough to go off to loo alone. Instead of which facilities are closing and standards are falling.

MrGHardy · 17/02/2018 20:53

"All the trans people I know are doing so. It’s only the tiny percentage of “TRA” types who demand access to female facilities. But TRA gets all the attention due to being so loud and demanding, and the 99% of trans people who are not TRA get ignored."

Interesting. The problem is, there's far more TRAs than actual trans.

SweetheartNeckline · 17/02/2018 21:05

Rufus totally agree. Floor-to-ceiling, self-contained, securely lockable cubicles with sink, hand-drier, sanitary bin, condom / tampon machine opening onto a corridor - absolutely.

If they just relabel existing loos unisex it will not work, women cannot use urinals, effectively it'll be unisex and men's, and I do not wish to rinse my mooncup out in from of (well, anyone ideally) men.
