Will be discussing Labour, AWS and trans women. Didn't catch other contributors and can't find a precis.
I'm going to take some prophylactic paracetamol and wrap radio in bubble wrap/put it on a high shelf.

OP posts:

I agree about there being so many issues that it is hard to know where to start. This debate has been suppressed for so long there are a lot of issues simmering that have progressed differently and the AWS in the labour party is only one.

One thing that annoys me is the lack of definition of what a transwoman means which allows the image of the poor dysphoric individual who has been through a lot to be peddled, when we all know that self-defining covers a whole spectrum and more including the individual who is in prison for seriously worrying behaviour but does it in a thong and a sports bra. And that is before they alter the GRA.

tobee · 29/01/2018 15:04

*haven't spotted that happening yet

tobee · 29/01/2018 15:06

Doesn't really fit in with the idea of Corbyn being a "nice man", does it?

Melamin · 29/01/2018 15:23

I think people think it is just a loony left thing, and no one seems to connect it to the amendment of the GRA which are current government has said that they will do (although I think if they have any sense left amongst them, which is debatable, it will get gradually deprioritised into the long grass). This is everyone's future.

OnLiamsList · 29/01/2018 15:26

If I was the presenter, as soon as he said Hate Speech I would have asked him why he called the phrase "the penis is a male organ" Hate Speech. Because that is what all this shitstorm boils down to!

We need a full one hour BBC panel discussion on this. We are 52% of the population - are we not even worth that BBC?

tobee · 29/01/2018 15:34

Can't see why the BBC wouldn't do it? Fear? I want it on tv, prime time, not radio 4.

Ekphrasis · 29/01/2018 15:40

@HomeTerf

True, perhaps with the recent bits on masculinity and then the menopause they're building up to it?!

Ekphrasis · 29/01/2018 15:42

I want to see it on C4 with Cathy Newman.

nauticant · 29/01/2018 15:52

Radio 4 would be an excellent stepping stone to getting something with some substance on the telly.

tobee · 29/01/2018 15:53

But channel 4 isn't mainstream enough. I'm sure Cathy Newman would be good though.

tobee · 29/01/2018 15:54

Radio 4 and channel 4 can too easily be tagged as echo chambers imo.

It was no debate or discussion. He was given carte blanche to make accusations which she had to then answer to whilst not being questioned about the transwomen are women, women not female. Why the fuck did the presenter not say if women aren't female then what the fuck are they? Bellos it felt had about 3 minutes to talk and most of it seemed to be asked in a accusingly.

They dedicate more time to the bloody weather, piss poor journalism or whatever it was supposed to be.

Seafoodeatit · 29/01/2018 16:50

Accusingly manner*

ArcheryAnnie · 29/01/2018 18:33

Also, I am shocked that the Labour Party is STILL endorsing Liam and allowing him to appear on BBC Radio masquerading as a "women's officer" when we have provided the LP with tons of evidence that he created and admins two secret FB hate groups, spies on women members and non members, collects secret dossiers on them, and then lists them on a hit list inviting them to be harassed and abused.

Because being a trans-identified male means that you can get away with behaviour that in other people would have you sacked and ostracised. Wank into teenage girls' underwar? You are a vulnerable victim of the system! Rape a transman (ie a woman) with the express intent to impregnate her and write about committing that rape? Get invited onto the platform of the Women's March, Washington! Write about how street harrassment is sexy and cool, and women are feeble for not liking it? Get invited onto the platform at #TimesUp rally, London! Try to strangle your wife? Get invited to every telly sofa in the land to chat about how you were a boxing promoter but are now a Brave Thoughtleader! Punch a woman in the street? Have people donate to your crowdfunder!

nauticant · 29/01/2018 18:43

Even in Sharia law the testimony of two women is equal to that of one man:

Just seen this retweeted by someone. What a petulant child.

Ekphrasis I feel they're constantly tiptoeing around it. It's the elephant in the WH studio, as well as every other room. Hopefully now Marr has pointed it out they'll be brave enough to discuss it.

Although I'm another one who's amazed that the Labour Party are still endorsing Lily Madigan, I'd love to see her given a bigger platform. If today's lisping, little-girly, intellectually impotent performance was how she intends to win the public over to the idea of self-identifying transwomen representing the interests of the female population I feel she's the strongest advocate we have to make people go 'Wait, what...???'

hipsterfun · 29/01/2018 18:52

When Lily finally grows up, Lily is going to feel sooo embarrassed about being such a monumental pain in the arse.

DodoPatrol · 29/01/2018 18:52

Do all would-be politicians go on Twitter to whinge about their mums?

Maybe it's in the How to be an Effective Statesperson handbook somewhere, next to the chapter on Appropriate Business Dress.

HomeTerf · 29/01/2018 18:54

She might also wake up to the fact that most people who occupy a serious role in politics and public life don't tweet about how mean their mum is.

HomeTerf · 29/01/2018 18:54

X-post dodo!

tobee · 29/01/2018 19:01

I'm not amazed at all by the current Labour Party leadership's endorsement. This is what they are like. People seem to just ignore it. And crap on with all the Corbyn being a good man bullshit. He really, really isn't.

Justabunchofcunts · 29/01/2018 19:07

Rape a transman (ie a woman) with the express intent to impregnate her and write about committing that rape? Get invited onto the platform of the Women's March, Washington! WTF who did this?!?!?!?
