There’s an epidemic of violence towards TIMs

SwearyG · 22/01/2018 15:32

According to Paris Lees in the Guardian

I wonder how their statistics stack up against the violence towards women? For TIMs it’s:

1 in 8 have been attacked in the last year by a colleague or customer
1 in 3 have been discriminated against at a cafe, bar or restaurant
1 in 4 have been on the receiving end of domestic violence

Paris (the Paris who enjoys catcalls ) then goes on to explain the street harassment that they have suffered at the hands of men or boys, citing how they were frightened to walk to school when they were young (newsflash, girls were too), that they’ve had rubbish thrown at them (happened to me too), being assaulted in public (#mefuckingtoo).

They then go on to state that This violence is often justified on the grounds we’re not “real” women, that we’re tricksters, sick men who deserve to be beaten and murdered as if women aren’t beaten and murdered on the grounds that they’re real fucking women!

I’ve really only recently hit peak trans but gosh this helps. What exactly did Paris think they were identifying into? This is reality for women and girls from the time we enter puberty.

Is the violence actual violence or someone saying that transwomen aren't women?
The many peaktransing posts on Twitter lead to confusion on this issue.

A thing that takes normal humans a long time to get used to about trans activists.

They lie about everything, and they don't care about being caught out. It's disconcerting to deal with people who place no value on the truth.

Howyoualldoworkme · 22/01/2018 15:49

Well she changed her bloody tune didn't she!

LangCleg · 22/01/2018 15:49

Sorry, messed that up!

This is really typical behavior of trans activists and it's so hard to deal with people who really do lie constantly. You have to unlearn about everything you expect about human interaction.

These are two tweets I saw yesterday and they perfectly explain why I don't believe a single survey that asks for the responses of trans people. They. Just. Fucking. Lie.

Howyoualldoworkme · 22/01/2018 15:51

Oh dear, I'm being schooled on Twitter.
Apparently it's a different thing all together. I blame lack of critical thinking in universities. Don't get me started...

treaclesoda · 22/01/2018 15:52

I'm searching for words to describe how I feel about this. And I think I've settled on 'boohoo'.

You want to be treated like women? Well this is how a lot of men treat women. Not much fun, is it?

hackmum · 22/01/2018 15:56

I saw an argument on Twitter yesterday - can't remember who it was or even what it was about, but it was the usual thing where a woman said she didn't believe in allowing TIMs into women's spaces. Someone then came along - I kid you not - and said "Stop turning women into victims".

It's the sheer cheek of it. These people ENDLESSLY play the victim card - poor transwomen, we're more likely to be assaulted, more likely to kill ourselves, we're frightened of going into men's toilets or men's prisons in case we're physically attacked. And when women say, Well, yeah, we're frightened of those things too, WE are accused of turning women into victims. Are they really so stupid they don't see the illogicality of it? Or are they simply so motivated by hatred of women that they just have no respect for the truth?

PericardiumOne · 22/01/2018 16:00

I have a friend, a sweet sweet person who has recently decided to identify as a trans woman. They told me over coffee that they were reticent for a long time because 'they don't want to be scared of walking back home alone at night'.

Welcome to being a woman, I told them Hmm. I adore them, but I was slightly irritated by how naively they wanted the fun trappings but none of the difficulties, which are countless.

whoputthecatout · 22/01/2018 16:10

I was just going to comment on that Guardian story along the lines of "welcome to our world darling" and was this the same Paris Lees who wrote an article starting "Last summer I went to Ibiza, where I was catcalled, sexually objectified and treated like a piece of meat by men the entire week. And it was absolutely awesome." when the Guardian went whoops - comments on this article opened in error. Grin

Not that my comment would have got past the Guardian Big Brother censors I suppose for a minute....

Weezol · 22/01/2018 16:29

I went to the moon last night. I can fly and identify as an atomspherically variant Thursday. I therefore demand all of the things all of the time. Any refusal to comply with my wishes is, like, ACTUAL violence xxx

P.S. I reached peak Trans about June last year and I am beyond sensible dissussion.

Thehairthebod · 22/01/2018 16:38

Paris Lees can just fuck off.

A couple of years ago they were writing articles about:

-how awesome it is to be harassed and treated like a piece of meat and how it 'infantalises' women to say that it's OK to be uncomfortable with it.

-ripping apart another female journalists sexual experiences and completely demeaning anyone who could relate to that article. And then went on to list their own 'best things about sex' all of which had a distinctly male flavour and included being grabbed by the throat, and having socks stuffed in your mouth, hands behind your back 'whilst being rammer like a champ'. And wrote it all as a 'this is what women actually like ya know' article.

Now Saint Paris is bloody everywhere, nicking Jo Cox's lines about having more in common, appearing in Vogue to celebrate 100 years of women having the vote and being on TV and radio to talk about what a fabulous woman they are.

Interestingly they never engage in any debate on this issue, they will only appear with people who agree they are all woman. I mean, to be fair to Jane Fae, at least they had the bollocks (pun intended) to go up against Julie Bindel on the telly. I would love to see Paris do the same.

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 22/01/2018 16:42

What's noticeable about all the people Lees describes assaulting and insulting him?

All men.

Not feminists, not women. Not gender-critical radical feminists.

Men.

Fighting the wrong people.

DonkeySkin · 22/01/2018 16:53

Trans-identified men still have male bodies and they don't fear other men in the same way that women fear men. That's why Paris was able to write that article mocking women for fearing street harassment. When it comes to violence and the threat of such, male-on-male power dynamics are never equivalent to male-on-female ones, regardless of gender presentation.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 22/01/2018 16:55

Those stats are from the latest Stonewall report. Their methodology is so flawed as to pretty much render any "results" meaningless

PositivelyPERF · 22/01/2018 17:00

It sickens me to my core that this prick is being permitted to speak on the behalf of women and I bet the same wankers that are supporting him are also congratulating women that are brave enough to speak out against the abuse in Hollywood. I can guarantee some of the handmaidens that are supporting this creep are even putting #metoo on their Facebook, not even making the connection. It’s all so bloody depressing.

I’m just delighted that there are so many women lighting candles in the darkness known as the TRA.

Fekko · 22/01/2018 17:00

So catcalling and bum pinching is divine but being beaten up, threatened, menaces etc (same coin) is A Very Bad Thing? So it’s ok if you are treated like and ikkle wee sexy plaything but not as a plain old piece of meat?

Not a brain cell working there...

misskelly · 22/01/2018 17:01

What is it with people who’ve been socialised as Male and their inability to understand women fear men all the time, consciously and unconsciously.

If they spent less time telling biological women to shut up and more time dealing with Male violence and privilege we’d all be better off.

Fekko · 22/01/2018 17:04

But they are still in that ‘in love with’ phase of being female. It’s like when you have your first baby - and it is it really the first and only baby ever born on earth. Wow. You see things more clearly, more personally, better than everyone else could ever...

Lottapianos · 22/01/2018 17:10

'I therefore demand all of the things all of the time. Any refusal to comply with my wishes is, like, ACTUAL violence xxx'

Grin Yes, that's about the size of it

Decided to start 'identifying as a woman' and then got a bit of a shock to find out that it's not all mascara and glitter and fabulousness? To paraphrase another poster upthread, boo-fucking-hoo! Assholes Angry

AnachronisticCorpse · 22/01/2018 17:11

1 in 8? 1 in 3? I mean sure, any violence is too much but seriously? This is an epidemic?

100% of women will have been cat called, groped, discriminated against, raped, assaulted, been a victim of domestic violence or been frightened to walk to school. That is the reality of female existence. One or other (or many, or all) happens to all of us.

AnachronisticCorpse · 22/01/2018 17:12

But notice how people sit up and take notice when it starts affecting men. Even though they are men in dresses.

Fekko · 22/01/2018 17:12

But hey, we’re not ‘special’.

LangCleg · 22/01/2018 17:17

1 in 8 have been attacked in the last year by a colleague or customer

If anybody actually believes that 1 in 8 transgender people have been physically attacked by a work colleague or by a customer in a bar/shop/whatever where they are working, then they are stupid beyond belief.

If there had, we would have had Penis News posting twenty articles a day and everyone else at least reporting the court cases that ensued.

These people are liars and fantasists. It's all bollocks.

(And yes, I know our default is to believe victims. Sorry, though, I just don't believe this survey.)

UpstartCrow · 22/01/2018 17:21

''Of those trans people lucky enough to have a job, one in eight have been physically attacked by a colleague or customer within the past year. Drink after work? Maybe next time, eh.''

Equating not going for a drink with actual violence is so male privilege I cant even.
Single parents cant go for a drink after work. Not even to placate you. Child minders just dont work like that.

Fekko · 22/01/2018 17:25

Don’t forget that saying ‘Mr Smith’ or ‘Dave’ instead of ‘Miss Desiree D’Light’ (never Jane Smith, eh?) is viewed as worse than murder/rape.
