Our old friend Danielle Muscato has spoken.

... and here's another stepping stone on the way to Peak Trans

His actual words, fine by me. Call it female hygiene. Or female menstruation products.

The subtext is, as ever, 'gynophobic'.

terryleather · 22/01/2018 13:45

Leaving aside the fact that DM is cockwomble of the highest order, it's always puzzled me why it's called "feminine hygiene" when it should surely be female hygiene?

I mean if I have short hair, no make up and am wearing trousers while I have my period does that mean I can't use "feminine hygiene" products?

CaoNiMa · 22/01/2018 13:46

LOL.

terryleather · 22/01/2018 13:46

Ah Datun you got there before me Grin

DistaffSide · 22/01/2018 13:46

Just keeps giving...

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 22/01/2018 13:48

The words are a bit mimsy, I've always thought. Like the use of blue fluid in adverts for sanitary towels. I think he may be trying to say that trans men use these products and don't consider themselves feminine. However, neither do a large proportion of menstruating women. Is there a single biological male who has ever used a pad or a tampon for something akin to the use they're designed for?

OP posts:
TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 22/01/2018 13:53

'Menstruation products' pretty much covers it. Everyone knows that only female people menstruate, there's no need to spell it out.

'Female menstruation products' sort of implies there might be such a thing as 'male menstruation products'

Fekko · 22/01/2018 13:53

So what do men use tampons for? Art installations, stopping nose bleeds, plugging gaps where teeth have fallen out, making toy mousies...? He (for I suspect he has male appendages) should keep his beak out of feminine anythings really.

People of 'all' genders? So how many do we have today?

Shall we start a 'what pisses me off...' thread?

hazeyjane · 22/01/2018 13:54

One of the definitions of feminine is "adj. 1. Of or relating to women or girls. " - which sanitary products definitely are (although I expect this definition will probably be changed to incorporate the rainbow of gender blah blah blah....brave new world etc)

QueenLaBeefah · 22/01/2018 13:56

What's it got do with Danielle anyway? They are aimed at feminine people which is something that Danielle will never be.

MarthaArthur · 22/01/2018 13:56

The military use tampons to plug bullet wounds. They dont get uppity about the names.

hugoagogo · 22/01/2018 13:57

Fuck a duck. I feel like we are in some sort of parallel universe/ thought experiment that will just go poor at any moment.

Fekko · 22/01/2018 13:58

'The military use tampons to plug bullet wounds' - they have them in their kit/first aid bags???

hugoagogo · 22/01/2018 13:59

Poof! Not poor Hmm

Elendon · 22/01/2018 14:00

The other day I was in a mainstream supermarket and on the end isle, which is usually reserved for offers, were male incontinence pads. It was full of them.

Just thought I'd share.

I'm not worried about this gendered product being on sale.

thenightsky · 22/01/2018 14:00

Perhaps he uses them to plug up the hole the shit comes out of. Only it's not working. Wrong end Danielle.

Janie143 · 22/01/2018 14:03

They are sometimes used to contain anal leakage

UpstartCrow · 22/01/2018 14:04

A man nearly called him out on that tweet but backed down pretty sharpish.

terryleather · 22/01/2018 14:05

QueenLaBeefah
On a bleak Monday afternoon your post has made me pmsl Grin

Datun · 22/01/2018 14:09

He doesn't give a fuck about transmen who might be triggered by the word feminine. Because they're women. And he couldn't give a toss about them.

This constant, desperate need to erase the biological distinction between men and women, in order to justify the transwomen are women mantra, is becoming so blatant, I'm constantly astonished people can't see it.

UpABitLate · 22/01/2018 14:10

This particular thing - what to call them in shops - is pretty trivial and lots of women have for years been saying why "feminine" and for me the idea that periods are somehow unhygienic is a bit iffy,

however the extension of this idea - that you shouldn't call it that because it excludes "men and non binary people" who menstruate - is when you get people attacking charities that work with girls and women around menstrual issues around the world - telling them to not focus on or mention girls in their campaigning - which is non trivial. Charities for girls and women will find it very hard to fundraise if they are unable to vocalise who the help is for.

MarthaArthur · 22/01/2018 14:14

fekko yes they have them in their first aid kits. I laughed when i was young and found them in my dads when he went to iraq until he explained why.

blackdoggotmytongue · 22/01/2018 14:17

Well to be fair, I’ve stumbled across a lot of transwomen who include tampons in their fetish. There are some illuminating threads about how to fake menstruation. I think you can even buy the kits online.

There is a difference between having to use a product for menstruation and deciding you want to fake it for a thrill though.

And yeah. Those massive chunky pads your mam bought in 1982 can be used as great replacements for field dressings too. Scented Always, not so much.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 22/01/2018 14:23

UpABitLate, yes indeed. Like the poor women who die in Nepal while exiled to a menstruating hut in winter.

Single sex toilets are a big issue all round the world, on safety grounds. UN initative here.
