... incase it 'offends' transgender children.

And so it continues.

It's absurd. If the school believes that these students really aren't girls, they shouldn't be allowed to continue attending. It's an all-girls school. If the school doesn't believe in trans ideology, there's nothing wrong with using the word 'girls' for female students.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 10/01/2018 08:14

There’s an Altrincham Grammar school for Boys too. Wonder if they’re applying the same rule.......

ShotsFired · 10/01/2018 08:15

Well, what about me? I'm offended that they think a plural name for my biological sex is ban-worthy, for crying out loud.

(On the plus side, now the DM is getting its teeth into stuff like this, half the UK will be angrily harrumping into their cornflakes and writing letters about it)

Gileswithachainsaw · 10/01/2018 08:17

Oh fgs

Thought the whole point of girls schools was because girls actually learn better and it increases the number of girls going into STEM subjects.

How good are they meant to feel about themselves if they can't even be called what they are...

Fgs

redshoeblueshoe · 10/01/2018 08:22

I thought it was quite amusing that they are not actually going to change the name of the school.

SuburbanRhonda · 10/01/2018 08:23

The parent quoted in the article has it right - “They talk about diversity but it’s a girls-only school. How does that work?”

🙄

tazzle22 · 10/01/2018 08:25

Surely if someone is wanting to change from a boy to a girl then its not offensive to call that pupil a girl ? Cant get link to work so if its the other way round ignore Wink

Datun · 10/01/2018 08:29

Kowtowing without believing it.
What is that teaching the girls?

If a girl is identifying as a boy she should leave the school. Unless you don't believe she really is a boy?

In which case why pretend you do by changing the name to accommodate her?

Terrylene · 10/01/2018 08:41

Does this sort of thing happen in boys schools or is it only the girls schools?

AlabamaShakes · 10/01/2018 09:02

I've said this on a previous thread - my DD goes to an all girls school. There is a trans boy in her year and a trans girl that joined the school in September last year.

why do they believe the trans girl is real and not the trans boy. Makes no fucking sense

Thehairthebod · 10/01/2018 09:20

Is there another source for this story? It's just that we all know that the DM have form for twisting stories into something that suits them (Muslims banning Christmas etc)

busyboysmum · 10/01/2018 09:54

Yes I'm local and it's definitely happening. Bonkers. I cannot understand it and as others have said, surely if it's a girls school and there is a trans boy then they should move to Alty Boys?

boxyfingo · 10/01/2018 10:00

My DD attends this school and this change has been in place since before Christmas.

Now call me cynical but I think one of the reasons for this change could well be classroom and time management under the guise of inclusion and equality. I don't know how many trans gender students are at the school (not many) but I am aware of the disruption that can be caused when one of these students becomes upset. AGGS likes to do things properly, so when an incident happens all the relevant members of staff have to involved, students are interviewed, parents come in for meetings etc etc. It is a results driven school and so I would think that any changes that can eliminate this disruption will be a winning solution; the school looks caring and forward-thinking while teachers have one less issue to navigate in their mission to deliver excellent exam results.

Thehairthebod · 10/01/2018 10:06

Thank you for verifying busy and boxy I am just wary of being a hypocrite as I don't want to start frothing about this stuff just based on a DM story as we know what they are like!

So are there any 'trans girls' at Altrincham Boys school? Are they changing their language as well?

I do not get why the treatment for gender dysphoria is to collude in the lie that you are something you are not?

busyboysmum · 10/01/2018 10:33

I don't get that either.

My worry is that as India is finding out on CBB, although people lie to their faces and say yes of course you are that sex, when it comes to finding love and having a normal life the reality is actually very different.

Someone at work was saying they were commenting on a facebook thread about AGGS last night and one woman was saying she'd always wanted to be a builder but couldn't because she was a girl (!) so she understood why people would want to change gender. What nonsense. We should be challenging gender stereotypes not enforcing people into rigid boxes.

BarbarianMum · 10/01/2018 10:33

No a trans boy shouldn't move to a boys school any more than this school should admit trans girls. Because these schools are segregated by sex not gender.

Still, we are always talking about the needs of trans boys/men being ignored compared to those of trans girls/women so maybe this is progress and we should be pleased?

YetAnotherSpartacus · 10/01/2018 11:04

Then the girls need to start making a fucking fuss... - but you can bet that if they did this the situation would be dealt with by sitting on them hard.

AngryAttackKittens · 10/01/2018 11:29

"Good morning, gender non specific children. Please make sure to tell the teacher in advance if you can't attend today's swimming lesson due to the not in any way female blood coming out of your in no way gendered unmentionable parts."

DodoPatrol · 10/01/2018 11:32

If it's anything like my old grammar school, I'm surprised any word as human as 'girls' snuck in there in the first place.

'Good morning Lower Third. Sit down, books open, silence please.'

IrkThePurist · 10/01/2018 11:32

Sex is no longer a protected characteristic and no one is protected by the Equality Act any more.

Thehairthebod · 10/01/2018 11:34

Yes, people like India Willoughby have been sold a lie.

She said something the other night along the lines of 'people will say that they see me as a woman but they don't actually believe it'.

Quite, India. Quite.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 10/01/2018 11:37

Good morning Lower Third. Sit down, books open, silence please

Was the school in Cornwall, did you have this amazing swimming pool that you swam in all summer (and all summers were hot and sunny), did the school have four towers with 'dorms' and did you refer to mean girls as 'beastly'? Just curious. :)

boxyfingo · 10/01/2018 11:39

YetAnotherSpartacus It will be interesting to see what the reaction of the pupils is. It has been in place for a few weeks and it seems that school life is going on fairly normally without anyone really noticing much change. I do want to keep check on the words that are used to address the pupils - have heard of a teacher saying "boys and girls" which I think is ridiculous (although it could have been in a jokey way). It's great to be inclusive IMO but lets hope the school thinks about how all its pupils want to be addressed rather than being seen to pander to one particular group.

AngryAttackKittens · 10/01/2018 11:39

Re India's comment from the other night, the thing is, it's possible to force people to say just about anything if there's enough social pressure on them to do so but it's not possible to make them believe it. I feel like a lot of trans activists fundamentally just can't wrap their heads around that reality.

insancerre · 10/01/2018 11:39

This was on the news last night
A former pupil tweeted that a trans gender pupil had committed suicide, so I guess it is quite raw and an emotive subject

It's not hard to use other ways of addressing people
