Which female MPs are not 'out' as part of the "TW are women" brigade?

Can we have a quick list? Eg if someone has seen them comment on twitter or in TV interviews one way or the other. Or if they have remained resolutely silent on the issue.

I'm in Scotland so while I am still particularly interested in Labour and Cons at the moment, I'm also interested about Scottish MPs/MSPs, if anyone knows.

I nearly didn't post this thread because on one hand I don't want to draw attention to them. I think (if I was an MP) in the current climate, I would stay quiet too as a gender critical woman. It's just too dangerous to speak out. I respect that.

But on the other hand, I want to know who is for women, against women, or sitting quietly (which I will assume means for women, but scared). I want to know if I can still respect the ones I used to respect as feminists, eg Harriet Harman, Yvette Cooper etc. At the minute, I feel like I don't know who to trust.

Ps, I'm politically homeless at the moment. I see no party that is 'safe' for women and women's rights. So I'm not asking in a way to pit one party against the other or anything.

It would only take 1 ambitious, clever, sympathetic female MP with a good track record of voting for equality (i.e. demonstrably not a bigot) to get the bit between their teeth and fight on this platform for the tide to turn, I think. Cynically you could even say a stellar career could be built on it.

Well yes, but regardless of the MPs track record...they would be bombarded with death/rape threats and its fucking scary even for me with my anonymous (sort of...my names on but its a common name) twitter account. I don't think I would dare face the wrath of transactivists if I was easily recognized in public. Look at the reaction Jess Phillips got for simply...saying that women should have some input in stuff that will affect them!

Weird, because he thought women-only carriages on trains would keep us safe from penises. And yet seems happy for penises to be free to wander into those carriages. confused

Yeah Corbyn is a total hypocrite on this issue. identifies a need for female only carriages, but also thinks anyone should be able to self identify their way into womanhood Confused

When have you EVER seen Corbyn say 'no' strongly to his grass roots activists? Really. He does a good line in being above it all but does he ever really call the dogs off?

Anna Soubry is hugely pro-Trans, I’m sure I heard her say Trans women are women Angry
I follow Jennifer James on Twitter , shes Liverpool CLP , or was till she told them to shove it yesterday, I just cant understand the fact that she thinks Corbyn is the Messiah , he is either pro-Trans or going along with it for convenience.
The womens officer of my local CLP reached out to me on twitter when I was moaning about the lack of response from my MP but I think she’s been silenced as she has now blocked me.
I cant understand why they all seem so afraid of being thought of as ‘transphobic’ , they dont seem to care about anything else.

Anyone in Islington written to their MP?

Report
QuentinSummers · 15/12/2017 19:31

Yes. Him posting that in itself could be coercive as they would need to be very brave to outright deny it (And given current events, they could lose their jobs over it).
I don't trust the little slinker as far as I could throw him.

Oh no not at all! Sorry, I'm not having a pop at you. I just think it's unwise to take what he says about women at face value. I was posting for the lurkers really.

It's good that people can see this stuff.

Sorry, I know I can be a bit blunt on here Flowers

I went to Shami Chakrabarti's book tour (her book is called "of women") and when asked directly about the trans debate she did not strongly defend women and was very on the fence "respect for everyone's choices blah blah blah". I was so disappointed. I thought the Lords would have a strong voice with her. Sadly I may be wrong.

Don't be sorry quentin you weren't blunt at all I just didn't want to be inadvertently adding to online harassment of her.

She has now tweeted her agreement, though probably didn't have a choice Sad

I, too, would like Harriet Harman to state her position.

TheXXFactor · 15/12/2017 21:21

I think that's naive, wejammin, sadly. The liberal institutions have all adopted the pro-trans line uncritically. There is no way that the ex-director of Liberty is going to say anything to challenge that. It's so much easier to deny the risk to women's rights than to engage with the messy business of acknowledging that a balance must be struck between competing needs.

(Though, in her heart of hearts, Shami may not be massively well-disposed to the LBGT lobby, given that her husband left her for another man.)

Is there any chance that some of the quiet ones are just keeping counsel for now until any debate/vote?

May as well only get the rape & death threats afterwards rather than before as well. You know, if there’s a choice between TA/MRA violence levels.

I imagine if any labour women do have concerns they will be tentative to raise them now Labour are going after the “terfs” within their ranks.

I think, at the minute, if we push MPs to take one side or the other, they'll take the path of least resistance and go anti-women. So we shouldn't ask.

Women have no power in society, it's especially clear at the moment.

Liz McInnes has just stuck her head above the parapet (and predictably got a load of abuse for it)

She's very brave and I am very grateful.

She's taking some amount of abuse though Sad and I really hope she's not pulled into a disciplinary panel for saying women, not just TW, should get a say.
