Yes, it's Laurel Hubbard and he will compete in the new 90kg weight category, which was introduced to bring equality with men's weightlifting.

"Technical Rule modification accepted by the IWF EB: the new women bodyweight category is 90kg,+90kg and 75kg,+75kg for youth #genderbalance"

So equal that it's being competed in by a man.

Oh, and the old heavyweight female lifter has been forced to lose 17kg to compete in the

bambambini · 24/11/2017 09:27

Thank you Michael Keelan! I play competitive sports so this is a big point for me and i follow the debate in TW in sports. I find vast majority if men are totally with women on this and air their views (and disgust) quite clearly

People go as far as using performance enhancing drugs to win, just that when they get caught they face a lengthy ban. Identifying as a woman is the safer and easier option for winning medals.

It's horrendous and completely unfair and I fear for the future of women's sports.

Datun · 24/11/2017 09:31

I’m not a scientist or a biologist or an athlete. But any damn fool can see how one-sided this is.

Otherwise, where are all the bloody transmen on testosterone who are beating the men?

It’s CLEARLY cheating.

TheGoalIsToStayOutOfTheHole · 24/11/2017 09:32

Ah come on. He would be at a disadvantage against other men apparently. So its entirely fair that he competes against females instead.

Ignoring the advantage he has over them. as honestly, ho the fuck cares about women...

TheQuestingVole · 24/11/2017 09:45

I think it is a dead certainty we will soon see men competing in women's tennis, and any other discipline where the income from prize money is decent.

Popchyk · 24/11/2017 09:51

What reasons are transgender activists giving for MTF trans people suddenly having a winning talent at women's sport when they didn't have a winning talent when they competed as men at men's sport?

Just coincidence?

BeyondAssignation · 24/11/2017 09:56

On the tiny, tiny plus side, the commonwealth games are quite widely viewed - so this blatant cheating will be brought to a very wide audience...

bambambini · 24/11/2017 12:17

“What reasons are transgender activists giving for MTF trans people suddenly having a winning talent at women's sport when they didn't have a winning talent when they competed as men at men's sport?”

I’ve debated this with TW who cheer their fellow TW on when they win in female events and been called a flat earther (and other things). I’d wager most women are very against this. I think it’s actually telling when TW automatically support their fellow TW over women in this and shows thror is a clear divide between TW and women.

nauticant · 24/11/2017 12:44

If you look at various matters that have suddenly hit the wider public domain and caused a scandal, it's always interesting what the straw is that breaks the camel's back. Often it's something emblematic, rather than the substance of the scandal.

I have no interest in sport (after my experiences at school I'm definitely sports-averse) but I am interested in this. I wouldn't be that surprised for this to attract attention. The problem can be very clearly understood. The unfairness of it is almost a slap in the face. The solution is really simple.

Datun · 24/11/2017 12:52

I thought it would be puberty blockers on children, then chest feeding. Then Travis the Prat at top shop.

Then I really thought it would be a 19-year-old boy being elected as women’s officer, having ousted a woman from a similar job.

Maybe it’s just a slow burn...

CloudNinetyNine · 24/11/2017 12:53

A sport like weight lifting which already has categories for different weight could introduce categories for testosterone levels too. If you weren't allowed to alter your testosterone levels artificially then you would be competing against similar individuals. Would that work?

We need a well known ex-gold winning athlete, who has retired, to 'transition' and compete as a female. Win gold, stand on the podium and say "how fucking stupid is this, I am not a women"! Then disqualify themselves.

Absolutely not. A man has bigger lungs, etc., from being exposed to testosterone from ~6 weeks of gestation.

Men just need to get the fuck out of women's sport.

Agreed

I'm curious I have to say, about how winning would be of any satisfaction. Surely if the only way you could win was to compete against people who couldn't possibly win against you it would be meaningless.

WhereYouLeftIt · 24/11/2017 13:54

Short-term, I am hopeful that this sort of shit will PeakTrans more people. It's still flying under the radar for most people, some very public demonstrations of how this laissez faire approach actually works will be useful. A sort of 'picture worth a thousand words' sort of thing.

Long-term - huge effect on women's sports Sad Angry. It takes years of dedication to reach the top flight, and sheer determination. How much stronger will the disincentives be to put in that hard work, maybe sacrifice career and personal goals because the sport takes all your time and mental energy? If a girl doing well at, say, county level, sees she's got no chance of actually winning because the transgirls are outrunning/lifting/throwing her best efforts - how likely is she to continue putting in the effort to progress to the next level? A rational person would downgrade her sport to 'for my pleasure only' and focus more on their career and personal life.

Women's sports will wither due to the young talent not coming through at the same rates as before. We won't feel it immediately, but in 5 years or so, we will Sad.

JessicaEccles · 24/11/2017 13:55

Sadly, I really think a lot of people won't give a fuck about this. Or will be too scared to comment because you know PHOBIC TERF.

And how could you argue it? These are WOMEN- everyone has agreed it. How could you stop them competing? I can only admire their brazen exploitation of the Emperor's New Clothes.

nauticant · 24/11/2017 13:55

I've wondered the same. See, in my world, if I'd done something equivalent I'd be standing up there getting my award feeling like a cheat. I'd actually feel ashamed.

But I suppose some people would get a real kick out of being instrumental in denying a deserving winner of something that rightfully belongs to them. Something they've trained their whole life for.

HumphreyCobblers · 24/11/2017 13:55

I suppose that if you get the medal, everyone claps and no one actually says to 'fuck off you cheating git' then there is much satisfaction for someone with low enough moral standards to do this in the first place.

People don't dare criticise. Or should I saw women don't dare criticise at the moment.

WhereYouLeftIt · 24/11/2017 13:59

"I'm curious I have to say, about how winning would be of any satisfaction."
I'm guessing it's similar to the drugs cheats. Knowing they wouldn't win if they were clean, they dope. Winning the medal and the recognition (and possibly the lucrative sponsorship deals) is more important to them that being the actual best.

I suppose it depends on what you individually decide the word/concept of 'winning' means to you.

pisacake · 24/11/2017 14:00

Well once he gets to the top 3 or 4 women in the world, his performances are competitive but not guaranteed winners.

As a man he'd be nowhere.

He may be about to become world's champion. As a man he'd be literally nothing.

DISGUSTING

Viviennemary · 24/11/2017 14:24

I don't think this will last long. He hasn't broken the women's record because he isn't a woman. So the whole thing is just crazy. I predict there will be a U-turn eventually, The women should refuse to compete. It's the only way. What's next. Tennis, athletics? They might as well make it a free for all.

Datun · 24/11/2017 14:26

If people didn’t mind cheating, we wouldn’t have a drugs problem in the sports industry.

The fact that it’s rife shows many don’t care. As long as they win.

Lauren Jenska, a transwoman fell runner was supposed to get her testosterone levels regularly checked to make sure she was competing fairly.

When an official Ralph Knibbs had to repeatedly ask her to submit her levels, she packed a bag with three knives drove to his office and stabbed him repeatedly.

He was pro trans.

But, presumably, the thought of being stripped of medals that she had won unfairly, made attempting to murder him seem like a plausible option.

CornflakeHomunculus · 24/11/2017 14:29

This gives me the absolute rage.

I play a contact sport and I worry a lot about what will happen should a TIM want to join either our team or another team at our level. I would be devastated to give it up but at the same time it's not just about fairness it's a massive safety concern. I'm big and I'm strong (for a biological woman) but I'd still have zero chance against male born players. Some of our players are only sixteen and very small, it's chilling to think of them playing a full on match against an adult male.

The sport's governing body does tend to be very sensible and I'd like to think the players and particularly the coaches involved any level would kick up a fuss but there's so much pressure to be "trans inclusive" it does worry me...

nauticant · 24/11/2017 14:30

I'd be interested to see if the trans migration into women's sport is across the board or uneven. If I'm right in suspecting the latter, I wonder what the hotspots will be.
