Women's Liberation Party

Reposting this from the thread about the Rochester Labour Party. Despairing now there is no mainstream or small party now that represents the interests of women.

What with the WEP also buying into this shambles, can we initiate a Women's Liberation Party to counter this?

Seriously.

We need to coalesce around a unified voice to fight this.

Suggested basic principles

Liberation of females from male supremacy.

Abolition of gender. People can dress, present, be who they want to be, whether or not that correlates with traditional stereotypes and norms associated with their sex.

Changing sex is impossible, both medically and politically, but you can be free to choose to non conform with the gender norms of your birth sex. Hate crime based on gender non-conformity to be taken seriously.

Trans people have and deserve rights both for their unique trans status and at a general human rights level. But transwomen’s and natal women’s rights do not in any way overlap. They do not form a cohesive group with a common definition that is not based on either a tautology, or essentialist stereotypes.

Gender is no business of the state. There is no reason for the state to know or collect statistics on people's gender... it is a personal matter. Sex on the other hand is important for the planning of services such as maternity, cervical and prostate screening etc.

Acknowledgement of the fact that humans are a sexually dimorphic species and the material reality of biology. How this affects opportunities and outcomes for female sexed people in society. Women are more than their sex, but never less.

Sex is why women are oppressed and gender is how. Understanding the nature of sex based oppression is essential to dismantling the gender structures that hold women subjugated.

All male violence and harassment of females to be included as a hate crime category. Stiff sentences for serious sex offences against women and children.

Affirmative consent-based Sex Education throughout the school career, at an age appropriate level. Teaching respect for others’ boundaries and wishes.

+Women only spaces upheld.

Wouldn’t it be better to found a charity that campaigned for the rights of women and girls? And was always lobbying and doing press releases and influencing policy in the main parties? Perhaps even funding legal action.

I would donate.

CharisInAlexandria · 20/11/2017 22:32

Because it seems to me there isn’t a charity or campaign group standing up for women’s rights.

SlowlyShrinking · 20/11/2017 22:40

I would join/vote for this

OlennasWimple · 20/11/2017 22:50

Fair Play for Women and Girls is a new but growing campaign group in this area (I have seen them quoted more and more widely of late)

Beingrippedoff · 20/11/2017 22:52

I’d be interested too. Not sure about the name, but do like the liberation bit.

TuftedLadyGrotto · 20/11/2017 22:53

I'm in.

Fair play for Women and Girls were quoted in the Times this week.

McTufty · 20/11/2017 22:53

Yep!

AssignedPerfectAtBirth · 21/11/2017 00:07

I reckon New Model Army should do it. Quite the right revolutionary and historical tones

ISaySteadyOn · 21/11/2017 06:35

I'm interested. None of the current parties seem to care about women not even the WEP.

BamburyFuriou3 · 21/11/2017 06:38

I'd be up for this. Especially if the policy on education would be to remove it from government control and save our schools from being political footballs (my other soapbox topic)

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 21/11/2017 07:05

Nah, not the New Model Army, we need to follow in the footsteps of the Leveller women and have a revolt. We should start by channeling Katherine Chidley and writing a 'humble petition of diverse, well-affected women'. I'm pretty sure she meant the humble bit sarcastically.

SoulStew · 21/11/2017 07:09

Count me in too! Getting to that point in life where I actually have time to dedicate to causes. I’d love to work this one. ✊🏼

fruitlovingmonkey · 21/11/2017 07:11

I'm interested.

Babieseverywhere · 21/11/2017 07:50

I would join in a heartbeat !

In the meantime why not prevent some of the problems that women face daily from getting worse if the amendments to the gender recognition act goes through parliament in January....that is only a few weeks time !

Please meet up with your MP tell him/her your concerns. Take a copy of the SAGES letter or a Mumsnet link...whatever you want them to read.

Tell them to vote against the amendments.

BeyondAssignation · 21/11/2017 13:14

Whatever name (even if you went with "militant feminazis who want to #killallmen" - example quote from a recent MRA there, not me!!) you've got my vote

BahHumbygge · 21/11/2017 22:21

Interest sounds promising... where to go from here?

I have no political/leadership/media experience & I'm not on FB at the mo (deactivated).

Where's the best place to take this idea? Feel totally disenfranchised over this issue... this is my big line in the sand and all the parties are bought in to the ethos. New party? Standing as independent candidates? Pressure group? Network of Gender Critical groups across our parties like the GC Greens?

Thinking of going to the Hardcore Hate conference in Gloucester next month if anyone would like to meet up to chat there.

I love the New Suffragettes... it is a name whose time has come Smile

ISaySteadyOn · 22/11/2017 06:01

Could we reproduce the green, white, and purple colours? I like the New Suffragettes too.

SoulStew · 22/11/2017 06:38

New Century Suffragettes? NCS? Green white and purple sound perfect as a colour scheme.

Logo should be ‘XX’ chromosome, so it’s clear it’s a WOMENS party.

bigkidsdidit · 22/11/2017 06:58

I agree with a PP that political party is difficult - see WEP getting nowhere ever and even UKIP - with all their members - only having one Mp. A dedicated, rich, relentless lobby group would be more effective.

I would donate in either case, though.

Pooley83 · 22/11/2017 07:22

Wouldn't it be better for women to work with men generally (this includes transmen/women) so the outcome of equal rights is achieved for all. There are lots of abuses and horrible inequality for all both female s and males but becoming militant would create in even more divisiveness in an increasingly less tolerant UK society, would people agree that education and understanding leading to changes in society culture is key for all in achieving equality rather militant lobbying and shouting/slamming, voices can be heard through education and understanding.

Goatgirly · 22/11/2017 07:32

I would join.
I've never joined a political party as such, but would definitely get behind this.

Bucketsandspoons · 22/11/2017 08:11

Unfortunately this is where modern feminism lost the plot. It became about all needs of all kinds, which means in effect women do all the work to put everyone else first and do the work to meet their needs for them, while putting their needs and interests last. Which is actually called patriarchy.

It's women being nice and generous, thinking of others before themselves and this being their expected role that got us into this mess.

whatwouldkatyactuallydonext · 22/11/2017 09:21

Count me in. Genuinely scared for the future of my 5 year old daughter, and utterly bemused at how this whole 'having a penis doesn’t mean you can’t be a woman' thing came about.
