17 year old girl sexually assaulted multiple times

Another horrendous case. It seems a 17 year old girl was sexually assaulted at least three times trying to make her way home from a night out, it seems by men not linked to one another - the final one quite possibly being part of a group. All such cases are of course horrendous but what does this say about society, that a number of seemingly unconnected men in a small geographical location within the space of an hour all have such contempt for women and girls they chose to sexually assault her. This isn't the first time this kind of incident has happened recently either (the same victim being assaulted by separate men). It's horrendous.

Oh my god! Horrendous Sad

NoLoveofMine · 13/10/2017 16:20

I started a thread about this in "AIBU" which had a lot of interesting debate yet it's been suspended. Bizarre.

I agree SweetGrapes Sad

I was reading that thread and it vanished. Anyone know why it was deleted? It was interesting. And I agree with lots of the points made on it (not the racism bit but the attitude towards women and girls in our society being toxic to women and girls

NoLoveofMine · 13/10/2017 16:38

It's pretty annoying it's been "suspended". I put it in that section of the forum because I wanted more people to realise the scale of male violence against women and girls and how commonplace these attitudes are, yet now it'll slip away.

It's not yet been deleted. I hope MNHQ can just delete any posts they think are problematic and then let it stand.

NoLoveofMine · 13/10/2017 16:42

Problem is it'll have faded away by then.

I read that thread earlier. I wonder whether it was suspended because of the 'woman blaming' posts? You and others were doing a great job of challenging people but there were some unpleasant comments. I often look at threads like this and wonder how the young woman concerned would feel if she was to read the unpleasant blaming comments?
While I do think that it's important to discuss things like this and I reckon a lot of women who may be tempted to victim blame will get a different perspective, I just hate the thought that a vulnerable young woman could see some hateful comments? Just a thought. Flowers

I was wondering where that thread had gone, why on earth was it suspended? Had we hurt some male feelings? Hmm

NoLoveofMine · 13/10/2017 19:32

Thank you theendisnotnigh. There were some really constructive comments on it from a lot of great women though, I do think the victim blaming was very much in the minority (I can only recall one or two posts I think). I very much think the same with regards to them - it would be so horrible for a girl or woman who suffered such horrendous attacks to find such comments, as if they're not going through enough. Also, as it's so insidious in culture, many are probably well aware of these attitudes which affects reporting in many cases. Thank you very much for the message as well Flowers

Indeed Humphrey, it's baffling it's been and still is suspended.

The thread is being reinstated, according to Site Stuff.

HumphreyCobblers · 13/10/2017 20:25

oh good

RebelRogue · 13/10/2017 20:28

Now i need to find thw thread.

QuentinSummers · 13/10/2017 20:40

Can you link it please?

I’ve read about half last night but got annoyed by the constant derailing and the insistence that NAMALT.
We fucking know that, but no matter how awful the case and how broken the woman/girl we must make sure men’s feelz are protected. Hmm

bambambini · 14/10/2017 08:30

I'd like to know the background of the men - if they are british or immigrants. I've lived 45 yrs in the UK and a year in the likes of Turkey and Egypt where the level of harassment and assault was ridiculous.

RebelRogue · 14/10/2017 08:32

@bambambini do you really think it makes a difference to the girl what the attackers nationality is?

bambambini · 14/10/2017 09:12

Not to the girl but it possibly could matter in dealing with these attacks and could matter to other girls and women.

NoLoveofMine · 14/10/2017 13:56

Indeed Rebel. Not all men...we know. But it's too many. And it's definitely too many women (and girls) who are victims of these attacks. To rush to say it's "not all men" on such an awful topic and in the context of attacks like these is a huge derail.

bambambini · 14/10/2017 14:18

The difference is i've lived and spent time in countries where the level of harassment and assault from strangers at street/public transport etc level is horrendous - nothing like what I've experienced in the UK. This poor girls experience reminded me of what I've experienced to a lesser degree (thankfully) elsewhere. We've had an influx of young men from areas that often treat females badly - i have wondered if there has been an increase in this type of harassment/assault. I guess we'll never know if we aren't allowed to consider it.

RebelRogue · 14/10/2017 14:40

@bambambini there is a thread in here about sexual abuse/harassment. A lot of the perpetrators are British .
Stop trying to make this about race/ nationality.
Women and children all around the globe are being abused, raped, murdered and harassed daily. It’s a male problem.

bambambini · 14/10/2017 18:37

Rebel - you are blind if you think sexual abuse/harassment doesn't change depending on the country. Are you telling me I'm not allowed to say that what i experienced in the middle east in a short period of time is not what I experienced in 40 yrs in the UK?

RebelRogue · 14/10/2017 19:20

Ofc it will change, due to laws, sentencing, societal view etc. What doesn’t change though is that it still happens in every country in the world, regardless of those factors, which makes it a male problem not a regional problem.
