17 year old girl sexually assaulted multiple times

Another horrendous case. It seems a 17 year old girl was sexually assaulted at least three times trying to make her way home from a night out, it seems by men not linked to one another - the final one quite possibly being part of a group. All such cases are of course horrendous but what does this say about society, that a number of seemingly unconnected men in a small geographical location within the space of an hour all have such contempt for women and girls they chose to sexually assault her. This isn't the first time this kind of incident has happened recently either (the same victim being assaulted by separate men). It's horrendous.

It doesn't happen to the same degree - what countries have you lived in?

NoLoveofMine · 14/10/2017 20:05

This is a huge derail. It happens consistently in this country as this case is evidence of. Please don't use this to make a point about race as it is about male violence against women. Diverting it is an insult to victims in my opinion.

I read the report about this on a Facebook link from a scummy tabloid. In the comments a woman said that the girl shouldn't have been clubbing as she was 17 so it wasn't these men's fault. Hmm

I nearly smashed my phone as I self combusted. Rape culture and victim blaming at its finest

Fifi5000 · 14/10/2017 20:18

It’s certainly a male problem. That is undeniable though often ignored. But it is extremely disingenuous to deny that these events occur more in some cultures than others and not racist to suggest that there may be some groups of men who are even more violent towards women than others.

If we are to break the patriarchy nothing can be off-limits. We can’t afford to be nice.

RebelRogue · 14/10/2017 20:37

It’s not about being nice. It’s about the fact that is a world wide issue, why focus on a small group -immigrants (and a specific group of immigrants as it turns out)?
It’s minimising what way too many women go through daily in the UK by going all “oh but were they British”?

My best friend was raped repeatedly by her father.. he was an American.
Another good friend was severely abused and raped by her then partner..he was English.
Another friend was again abused, beaten and raped by her husband..he was Chinese.
A childhood acquaintance was turned into prostitution by another man.. he was Spanish.
I’ve had incidents with English, Romanian , Albanian and fuck knows what else(especially when clubbing) men.

It’s fucking everywhere.

bambambini · 14/10/2017 21:14

It's not fucking everywhere to the same degree. Are you honestly saying it is? I've no idea of the background of these horrible men - but abuse against females is not the same worldwide. I find that claim naive and insulting.

RebelRogue · 14/10/2017 21:40

I’m not wasting any more time squabbling about this when violence against women and children by men is going on right now.
