Seems to me there are undertones that women should be controlling men better.

Also quite a lot of blatant sexism such as men who aren't married develop "low value for women" which suggests to me that the value women hold is intrinsicly linked to their chastity/marriageability to ID'S

Interested to hear what others think because I'm being a bit inarticulate on this.

So you know nothing about feminism and don't want to do anything about the inequality facing women or men. You just spend the day on mumsnet telling women to do better while doing precisely zero yourself. Well done.

Gentlemanjohn · 09/10/2017 21:35

Though thinking about it, I frequently condemn the sex industries on The Guardian whenever an article concerns them.

But as we should all know by now, social media has hardly made the world a more enlightened, progressive place has it? Anything little old me says is just a drop in a big ocean of rape porn, beheadings and racist trolling. All we're doing on social media is make Silicon Valley techies ever richer while thinking we're changing the world.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 09/10/2017 21:37

john is just going to do that thing where a posters suggests something to do...but john can't do it

And i am sorry that john is having a shitty time of it and isnt well...i really am

But the whole thread has turned into john telling feminists on this board that they are doing it wrong...and then refusing to countenance any suggestion that there is something (however small) he can do

Ereshkigal · 09/10/2017 21:37

Well that's convenient isn't it? As Sparrowhawk said, considering what women have achieved when we had no rights at all, makes men as a class look pretty lame.

Gentlemanjohn · 09/10/2017 21:38

No, I've read lots about feminism. And I'm not telling you how to do feminism. You can do what you like.

My point is that feminism has sold out. You can take that or leave it.

CaretakerToNuns · 09/10/2017 21:39

Gentlemanjohn - fuck off. Just fuck off. Who the fuck do you think you are to wade into a female space and try to speak over us?

Why do you hate women, John?

Gentlemanjohn · 09/10/2017 21:39

and then refusing to countenance any suggestion that there is something (however small) he can do

You won't answer me...but as I keep asking - like what???

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 09/10/2017 21:40

I think caretaker would like to leave it *john

Ereshkigal · 09/10/2017 21:41

You won't answer me...but as I keep asking - like what???

I literally just fucking suggested some things.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 09/10/2017 21:42

Ive no fucking idea

But loads of people have given you ideas

But you can't do any of them

So why the fuck should anyone else waste their time coming up with suggestions you will refuse to do

you won't answer me dont talk to me like you know me john youve no idea what i will and won't do

Gentlemanjohn · 09/10/2017 21:42

I wan't talking to Caretaker.

Ereshkigal · 09/10/2017 21:43

All I asked of you is that you occasionally challenge the views of your peer group. But you won't do that. Fair enough. But then you have no leg to stand on pontificating about what women should do.

TheSparrowhawk · 09/10/2017 21:47

If you know lots about feminism how come you don't know what the aim is or how to achieve it? You're a total joke John. You have no right to tell feminists anything about feminism when you fuck all yourself.

TheSparrowhawk · 09/10/2017 21:47

When you do fuck all

Gentlemanjohn · 09/10/2017 21:48

All I asked of you is that you occasionally challenge the views of your peer group. But you won't do that.

I do. I said I did - several times. But I don't go out much. I don't have a social life. Wtf?? I am not going out just so I can find some sexism to challenge. I hate blokey blokes. I hate pubs. i hate football. I want to go to my local cafe and talk to the nice waitress there and read my books and watch films and have a quiet life.

I'm sorry I don't hear any rape apologism but I really don't - not because it's no there but because I do not have a male 'peer group'.

You didn't say that. You said you'd intervene if a crime was about to be committed. All good citizens should. What do you want, a medal?

Gentlemanjohn · 09/10/2017 21:52

I do. Everything that has to be suggested to me I do. I challenge people talking disrespectfully about women when I come across it. I intervene if I see someone being assaulted or at risk of assault. I sometimes speak out about the way women are sexualised in our society BTL on the Guardian.

But I'm not going out looking for sexism to challenge. That is absurd.

Ereshkigal · 09/10/2017 21:52

It's not just "blokey blokes" who prop up sexism/misogyny. It really isn't. All types of men do it.

TheSparrowhawk · 09/10/2017 21:53

You do fuck all John. Except tell feminists that feminism is wrong. What a pointless waste of time

Gentlemanjohn · 09/10/2017 21:53

What do you want, a medal?

Nooooo! I don't! Oh my God I'm going to cry in a minute lol.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 09/10/2017 21:53

It happens at work...

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 09/10/2017 21:53

Sexist comments i mean

Not crying

Although that happens at work as well

Ereshkigal · 09/10/2017 21:55

But I'm not going out looking for sexism to challenge. That is absurd.

Why?

CaretakerToNuns · 09/10/2017 21:55

Amen, Ereshkigal. In fact it's usually the quiet, nerdy, socially awkward lonely ones that are the worst - they're the ones that are abusing women online, they're the ones that are watching porn, and worst of all, they're the ones who claim to be "progressive".
