Women's urinals?!

I don't think I could pee standing up. Is this for women or men? I also would not feel safe with my trousers round my knees and my bum out in a public place.

I read this article. It is for women. You're supposed to sort of squat backwards and hover. My knees would not be happy with it. I cannot see the point of these at all. They would need to be in cubicles so you may as well have an actual toilet, which has the added benefit of being more accessible.

PricklyBall · 11/08/2017 22:19

Yeah, I read that and just thought "how the fuck am I supposed to do that without pissing all over my trousers?"

Is it more of the ongoing campaign to deny the existence of women's biology, do we think?

powershowerforanhour · 11/08/2017 22:21

I want a wee not a quadriceps workout thanks.

demirose87 · 11/08/2017 22:23

Yeah they are pointless, they would need to be in cubicles so there's no difference to it being a toilet. Women have periods too so I can't see them being beneficial as they would need a flush.

ScarlettDarling · 11/08/2017 22:23

Must admit that I always squat over public loos anyway, so these urinals would be ideal for me.

OlennasWimple · 11/08/2017 22:23

Why?? It's the getting undressed to wee (and the other, period related stuff) that means that women take longer in the loo than men. Nothing about this contraption will help alleviate queues

It's basically a step up from the hole in the ground toilets, isn't it

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 11/08/2017 22:26

Apologies for the fact this refers to "Lillie's Bordello" (it isn't a brothel but a tackily named nightclub in Dublin. It was the first picture I found of it one in action) The user doesn't appear to wear knickers. They would be easier and more discreet to use if you are wearing a skirt

Puffpaw · 11/08/2017 22:28

Well it certainly does seem to deny both biology and inherent vulnerability... and for whose benefit? I can't see how this benefits women. Also Berliner toilet" needs to have include good visibility at the entrance, well-lit exterior, emergency alarm, as well as discrimination-free pictograms. wtf is the point of having these innovative loos if they need an alarm and discrimination free pictograms, just stick with what works for women. Why does the government want me to pee standing up?

From the pic in my link- no they wouldn't. At best they might have half or quarter partitions between them but no doors. Other pictures were just a row of urinals with no screens at all.

BaliBound · 11/08/2017 22:31

They have women's urinals at Glastonbury. They're a little tricky to get used to but convenient if you don't want to queue for ages.

DermotOLogical · 11/08/2017 22:31

I've used the urinals at festivals many times with a shewee. Don't see the problem really.

Puffpaw · 11/08/2017 22:32

Thanks for the photo of the lady p at least I know how they work now.

Having used genuine squat toilets in China, there's an art to it. You have to tuck your trousers behind your knees as you squat thus simultaneously keeping the waistband out of range of your own pee and the bottoms clear of the inevitable pools of other people's pee on the floor. A faff-tastic experience and definitely not one that's quicker than a normal sit-down toilet.

PricklyBall · 11/08/2017 22:34

And I don't want to have to lug a she-wee around with me everywhere I go. It wouldn't fit in the pocket of my jeans and I don't carry a handbag.

Puffpaw · 11/08/2017 22:35

I don't want to carry a shewee why should I??
Why can't I have women's loos that allow for female biology and keep me safe?

And having used genuine squat toilets it is an irrefutable example of skirts or dresses having an advantage.

Puffpaw · 11/08/2017 22:37

I too have used squat loos, fine in a skirt nightmare in skinny jeans!

Hell no. Although the Lady P style wouldn't need it.

dudsville · 11/08/2017 22:38

But how would we wipe/dry ourselves after?

BelligerentGardenPixies · 11/08/2017 22:38

What about the loo roll? Are we supposed to just shake the drops off? Do they come with fanny showers/dryers?

I'm not persuaded.

OnlyHereForTheFeminists · 11/08/2017 22:54

I wouldn't want to squat in front of everyone who is queuing for the toilet (especially in a gender neutral facility) and I don't see how it would reduce queues. It takes barely a second to sit down and stand up, the rest of the time is just how long it takes for the pee to come out!

Puffpaw · 11/08/2017 22:59

I hadn't even considered loo roll

OP posts:
QueenLaBeefah · 11/08/2017 23:03

It's a no from me.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 11/08/2017 23:11

One of my recurring, I wouldn't say nightmares but slightly unpleasant dreams, is that I'm desperate for the loo but everywhere I go is a loo exactly like these with no screens or walls.

VestalVirgin · 11/08/2017 23:31

Don't think it is an attempt to deny women's biology, just a fancy idea that won't really work. They have been around for a while.

Might be an idea to design some women's toilets for squatting over, as many women do that with public toilets anyway, and that way there won't be any urine on the seats of those toilets used by women who don't squat.
But of course we still need cubicles.
