Wonder Woman is transphobic, apparently

Sorry, it is selfish, but I just want someone to share my pain:

amarie24.dreamwidth.org/89487.html

I feel like crying.

Feel sorely tempted to agree that there should be a lesbian relationship (the only other point thing the writer had to criticise), and add, that it should totally involve a female penis! And see if they realize how fucking stupid that is, then.

But I probably would be applauded for being so progressive. Confused

May sounds harsh, but trans people just seriously need a therapist.

Not harsh. There are trans people who want a therapist but can't get one who won't tell them to mutilate their bodies. Of course, that's those who actually feel dysphoric. Those who claim that their penis is female are just taking the piss (and I only call them trans for clarity, don't think they really suffer from any psychological condition, they're just misogynist asshats)

Update about the madness: There's a tumblr post making the rounds wherein people claim that Wonder Woman is trans.
Hooray, one more bepenised superhero, because we didn't have enough of those already! Confused

The fact that Seanan McGuire, a fantasy author I used to like, reblogged this massively misogynist shit, applauding it, breaks my heart.

Honestly, I think most people think of transwomen as just being friendly gay guys, in lipstick who call you sweetie.

Honestly, I think most people think of transwomen as just being friendly gay guys, in lipstick who call you sweetie.

If that's the case, they cannot have realized that they'll be forced to share showers, changing rooms and hospital wards with them.

I met some friendly gay guys and while I like them much better than the trans I had the misfortune of meeting, I'd still not want to share any private spaces with them.

I agree. I just think they see them as nonthreatening. I'm sure they don't understand the implications of legally being able to change sex, either.

Icantreachthepretzels · 16/08/2017 14:49

I saw once (but didn't read, i wasn't going to give this person money) a book where the premise was 'Wuthering Heights' was really written by Bramwell not Emily Bronte. There is a theory that Frankenstein was written by Percy, not Mary Shelley and now even our fictional characters that get stuff done must really be men.

Some people just really have a problem with the idea that women are capable human beings.

Who next will turn out to be trans? Xena? Buffy? Elsa?

VestalVirgin · 16/08/2017 15:17

Who next will turn out to be trans? Xena? Buffy? Elsa?

I am 90% certain that you'd already be able to find someone on tumblr claiming that about Xena. Her being a typical warrior woman I wager she'd be targeted for erasure just the same as Wonder Woman.

Buffy and Elsa are a bit more feminine, but yeah, they'll probably be transed, too.

Well don't you know that you can't tell the difference between men and women? Any woman in your public toilet could really be trans and you would have no idea.

Isn't that what they tell us? So it's totally cissexist of us to assume that people as petite and clearly female looking as Buffy and Elsa aren't secretly packing donkey dick.

Oh, I meant "feminine" more in terms of behaviour and dress; Buffy being a rather average female teen and Elsa not even doing any fighting to speak of, making them perhaps less desirable targets for erasure. Though certainly targets for autogynephilia ...

Wonder Woman has a very womanly figure and they still claimed she has a penis, so that clearly doesn't stop them.

True! -.-

Icantreachthepretzels · 16/08/2017 17:05

Surely (this is where trans ideology starts making my head hurt because it goes round in circles) the more traditionally 'feminine' a character is, the more likely they are to be claimed as trans, because MtF TRAs want to be as 'girly' as possible and want to pretend there is no difference between MTF and women.

Lucy Lawless is a tall, strong and powerful looking woman, far more so than most regular women, so to claim her (well, Xena) as trans is admitting that MtF are bigger and stronger than bio women (which then throws a spanner in their argument that as there is no difference they are safe and belong in our spaces). Gal Gadot is also tall and powerful looking. I can understand trans ideology saying that these tall, strong warrior women are really transmen (because any woman with any masculine attributes must really be a man) - but to say that they're transwomen seems counterproductive...? I don't know, it makes my head hurt.

But if I were MtF I'd even reject Buffy because she can bend metal bars and punch like a mack truck - pretty damn manly.

Elsa is just perfect though, long swishy hair, a dress with a thigh length split in it and a big crystal looking palace. Just the right amount of femme to really be a man who feels like a woman.

Dina1234 · 16/08/2017 17:10

Of course it is, everything is!

VestalVirgin · 16/08/2017 17:20

I don't know, it makes my head hurt.

I know. That's what trans agenda usually does.

It is probably because there's lots of different flavours of misogyny under the trans umbrella, and they don't all agree with each other, but somehow, the genderists manage to believe them all at once, or at least not disagree with the others.

If penis can be female, why do little boys have to be put on puberty blockers and operated on? It makes no sense whatsoever.

There's blokes like Danielle Muscato, who don't make any effort to look feminine. They just want to take away women's spaces.
I think they're the ones who push the "Wonder Woman is trans" thing ... I suspect.
All the other subgroups then support this idea, because anything else would be branded "transphobic".

Then there's blokes who like to peform femininity. That's the ones who'd probably claim Elsa to be trans.

But Elsa is just one princess out of many; if they take Elsa, there'd still be many other princesses. And men can wear frilly dresses without taking Elsa away from girls.

Wonder Woman and Xena are very rare warrior women. Erasing them takes away one of the few role models girls have, it hits feminism where it hurts.

And that's why I think they'll be considered a priority to take away from us.

Why did Buffy have such an obsession with staking vamps? Penis substitute, obviously Wink

CabernetSauvignyoni · 16/08/2017 17:47

I think Buffy/Faith would absolutely be co-opted by the trans agenda.

One girl in all the world...SHE alone will stand against the forces of darkness. SHE is the slayer.

It's the ultimate validation. The slayer can only be female. She also gets to be violent in a feminine and sexy way (because violence is fine when they are defending themselves against literal violence after all) whilst having fabulous hair, dressing in little outfits (particularly the early episodes involving short 90s skirt and boot combos) and pouting when she breaks a nail. What better character to use for their agenda? they better leave Buffy alone

CabernetSauvignyoni · 16/08/2017 17:49

Vampires and demons are Terfs and Buffy is the badass transwoman defending the rights of TRAs everywhere...

Stopping before I destroy Buffy for myself

MorrisZapp · 16/08/2017 17:54

Wonderperson? Does that work?

VestalVirgin · 16/08/2017 18:04

It's the ultimate validation. The slayer can only be female.

I had forgotten about that! That means she's right up in the favourite target area with Wonder Woman, who is a woman who lives on an island only inhabitated by women. (Which men obviously cannot accept.)

Sssshhhh! Stop giving them ideas!

Icantreachthepretzels · 16/08/2017 23:38

i post on a Buffy board and there was a guy on there talking about how he's like to see a wider range of slayers (in the continued comic series), gay, WOC etc and he also included trans.

I didn't ask whether he meant a transwoman slayer, meaning boys can be slayers as long as they believe hard enough that they're women, or a transman slayer (I guess perfectly possible) which would cause no end of trouble for that particular slayer (imagine having your manhood invalidated by being the one GIRL in all the world!). I didn't want to ask and get myself kicked off the board for being a TERF.

I very much hope the comic series does not go anywhere near that can of worms. Either they would have to throw out the whole premise of the show and throw women under the bus in the process, or firmly plant their flag on the trans men are female biological reality side of the debate. Which would lead to death threats and the end of the Buffyverse.

But if they did go down that route ... I've got Joss Whedon pegged as a lib fem, he aint gonna side with us. Amazons can be male and so no doubt slayers can too.
