Wonder Woman is transphobic, apparently

Sorry, it is selfish, but I just want someone to share my pain:

amarie24.dreamwidth.org/89487.html

I feel like crying.

Feel sorely tempted to agree that there should be a lesbian relationship (the only other point thing the writer had to criticise), and add, that it should totally involve a female penis! And see if they realize how fucking stupid that is, then.

But I probably would be applauded for being so progressive. Confused

Darkblueskies · 30/07/2017 19:44

Where would the amazons with penises come from?!

Darkblueskies · 30/07/2017 19:44

Such a ridiculous article

AdalindSchade · 30/07/2017 19:45

Omg Shock
The stupid is strong in this one

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 30/07/2017 19:46

Good point re the relationship

But yeah, i feel your pain OP

AfunaMbatata · 30/07/2017 19:46

Pity the fools.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 30/07/2017 19:51

One of her other pieces has.

Trigger Warning: Mention of exercise & asthma

PlymouthMaid1 · 30/07/2017 19:52

I cant believe what I just read.

CeeBeeBee · 30/07/2017 20:01

Is it a parody? I find it unbelievable.

VestalVirgin · 30/07/2017 20:06

The saddening thing is that I read articles on that blog some years ago, and there was no hint of this nonsense ... except perhaps the author being a big overeager with the trigger warnings. There's a world of difference between trying to be kind to people who might be sensitive about rather harmless things and ... wanting to force women to accept penis in women's spaces.

Actually, to me, it is the complete opposite. But I suppose it must both come from the same place, as it is often the same people who do the one and the other.
Possibly to do with having internalized misogyny and wanting to coddle male feelings, which can look like being considerate to everyone ... until they have to decide between coddling male feelings and being kind and considerate to women.

Those are average women, who appear perfectly reasonable when you talk to them. Until they suddenly don't.

This exacerbates my anxiety issues. If any person on the internet can suddenly turn out to be completely mad, whom can you trust?

And what if I meet such a person in real life? As a woman who is smaller than most other women, let alone men, this frightens me. I never socialized much with strangers, but now ... the risk that any reasonable seeming person could attack me, and everyone around me might side with the attacker rather than me is just ...

GodIsDead · 30/07/2017 20:13

I don't get it....you're transphobic if you know that men have penises and women have vaginas? That article must be some sort of strange, unfunny joke.

VestalVirgin · 30/07/2017 20:13

Is it a parody? I find it unbelievable

No, I am afraid it is not. Unless it is stealth parody. It was linked to on a liberal "feminist" blog where they would have crucified the author for linking to a parody.

OP posts:
QuackDuckQuack · 30/07/2017 20:16

I've tried to read it, but it doesn't seem to make sense. But nor does 'If any person on the internet can suddenly turn out to be completely mad, whom can you trust?' Isn't that somewhat the point of the Internet? No one is what they seem and you shouldn't trust anyone.

VestalVirgin · 30/07/2017 20:17

you're transphobic if you know that men have penises and women have vaginas?

Yes, apparently. That is quite in keeping with the laws in Canada, the US, Ireland and the UK. (I think Iran actually requires surgery in order to legally change sex, though it appears males can be pre-op and legally women for quite a while, and definitely are playing soccer on the women's national team. But perhaps they're a bit more lenient with sports men women than with ordinary people. )

OP posts:
MudGolum · 30/07/2017 20:17

That article must be some sort of strange, unfunny joke.

That article reflects suggested law changes in the UK.

you're transphobic if you know that men have penises and women have vaginas?

Hate crime.

VestalVirgin · 30/07/2017 20:22

Isn't that somewhat the point of the Internet? No one is what they seem and you shouldn't trust anyone.

Well, I was prepared for women turning out to be men and little girls turning out to be the FBI.

But this trans nonsense is different. People are behaving normal, and then suddenly not, which is something that can also happen in real life.

OP posts:
AdalindSchade · 30/07/2017 20:27

The words 'man' and 'woman' now are supposed to mean no more or less than 'person who identifies as...'
They now are supposed to have NOTHING to do with physical appearance of the person. We cannot any longer assume that people with beards and penises and no breasts are men. Because men can look like anything and anyone.

If they wanted to nullify the meaning of man and woman but were content to leave us male and female I would be less furious. But no. If the line was 'don't I look like a male' the author would still say it was cissexist because obviously without having his genes katyotyped he doesn't know if he's male or not and even if he did, sex is a spectrum and a social construct.
So no matter that 'trans' means across, trans men and women are no longer transitioning to anything or from anything. They are literally just whatever gender identity they say they are.

This might all seem like illogical nonsense but it is all things that are claimed to be true by influential people and are beliefs that are driving the Maria Miller/Jeremy Corbyn self declaration law.

QuentinSummers · 30/07/2017 20:27

WTF?
I have no idea of the backstory of wonder woman, but why would it be surprising if she'd never interacted with a penis? Even if the people on her island had penises? There's no law saying if penis present, you must become familiar with it. That's really quite rapey

Gileswithachainsaw · 30/07/2017 20:33

Wtf did I just read Confused

GodIsDead · 30/07/2017 20:33

I'm literally boiling over but I feel unsure of how freely I can comment on this issue. I'm pretty new to MN and I don't want to anger anyone. So I'll just say that it's fucking ludicrous and the whole world has gone mad.

claritytobeclear · 30/07/2017 20:38

So how are teachers going to be able to teach reproductive science.

Perhaps we'll just start referring to our chromosomes instead of male & female, man and woman?

That surely could not be interpreted as being prejudiced.

CeeBeeBee · 30/07/2017 20:40

This has got to stop.

VestalVirgin · 30/07/2017 20:54

I hadn't even considered that, but it's true, she could totally have lived life without ever seeing a penis, unless they're all nudists or something. (Are they? Haven't seen the movie yet as I was angered the cinema made a male-only viewing of it)

So how are teachers going to be able to teach reproductive science

Well, this person has suggested something:

gendereducation.tumblr.com/archive

(Yes, that's parody, I am quite sure of that, thank goddess)

But the "rot in hell" comment seems to be from a genderist, so apparently, they aren't happy with that approach, either.

I know it's not meant to be funny, and it isn't really funny if there are idiots who actually believe this... but, L.M.A.O. That article really tickled me. Female penises! Hah! Ridiculous.
The trans thing always makes me think of monty python
STAN: Women have a perfect right to play a part in our movement, Reg.

FRANCIS: Why are you always on about women, Stan?

STAN: I want to be one.

REG: What?

STAN: I want to be a woman. From now on, I want you all to call me 'Loretta'.

REG: What?!

LORETTA: It's my right as a man.

JUDITH: Well, why do you want to be Loretta, Stan?

LORETTA: I want to have babies.

REG: You want to have babies?!

LORETTA: It's every man's right to have babies if he wants them.

REG: But... you can't have babies.

LORETTA: Don't you oppress me.

REG: I'm not oppressing you, Stan. You haven't got a womb! Where's the foetus going to gestate?! You going to keep it in a box?!

LORETTA: crying

JUDITH: Here! I-- I've got an idea. Suppose you agree that he can't actually have babies, not having a womb, which is nobody's fault, not even the Romans', but that he can have the right to have babies.

FRANCIS: Good idea, Judith. We shall fight the oppressors for your right to have babies, brother. Sister. Sorry.

REG: What's the point?

FRANCIS: What?

REG: What's the point of fighting for his right to have babies when he can't have babies?!

FRANCIS: It is symbolic of our struggle against oppression.

REG: Symbolic of his struggle against reality.

GodIsDead · 30/07/2017 21:19

@Puffpaw brilliant!

MrGHardy · 09/08/2017 10:45

May sounds harsh, but trans people just seriously need a therapist.

And they are hilarious. On the one hand they are so desperate to be labelled the gender of their choice (in this article a man even if you are a woman) and yet on the other hand they destroy the defining features of gender essentially making the labeling of people into genders irrelevant. Except of course the only true, unique, measure "I feel like a woman/man".
