Have recently watched Pedro Almodovar's Julietta and re-watched Volver. I love the women in these films.

They left me wanting more.

I wonder if anyone has any recommendations?

(As an aside - I spotted my local cinema have started marking films as "F-rated".

Silkwood - old, but Meryl Streep in fine form as Karen Silkwood, a whistleblower at a US nuclear power plant.

Veronica mars kicks ass, but you will only love the film if you have watched the series

Easy virtue is awsome, have never liked Jessica biel in anything but she's incredible in this

Another vote for all about eve

Calendar girls
Best Exotic Marigold Hotel

Not a film, but Jam & Jerusalem series

Recommended this on another thread Harold and Maude.

Really appreciate all the suggestions.
I've just rented All About Eve. I was so disturbed as a child by Whatever happened to Baby Jane that I have always been uncomfortable watching Bette Davis.

You should watch the series "Feud" op.

It's absolutely brilliant and might take the edge off the film a bit. Grin

And of course starting two more interesting women - Jessica Lange and Susan Sarandon.

Although she wasn't the main character I enjoyed Cher in "Mask". She played a very interesting role.

Jennifer Aniston in Cake, a poster on MN recommended it. I thought it was very good. She was good in the Good Girl too.

SleightOfHand · 11/07/2017 22:26

Jane Fonda in On Golden Pond and The China Syndrome.

SleightOfHand · 11/07/2017 22:31

August in Osage County film, many an interesting woman in that one.

LockedOutOfMN · 11/07/2017 22:35

I will read the whole thread but haven't yet so apologies if this is a repeat:

I've Loved You So Long with Kristin Scott Thomas in the lead role. It's a French film (Il y a longtemps que je t'aime).

bambambini · 12/07/2017 13:43

Lockedout

I've seen that, interesting film but ultimately left me unsatisfied/not persuaded. Worth a watch though.

Tilapia · 12/07/2017 13:48

The Hours - highly recommended

Smitff · 12/07/2017 13:56

Melancholia. Very well observed film featuring two women, one with overt mental health issues and one with something else going on (don't know what, despite having watched it many times!). It also doesn't fall into the trap of "wimmin and their ishoos". It's an intelligent film. But extremely affecting and not in a good way. I have to steel myself to watch it!

Smitff · 12/07/2017 13:58

Other end of the spectrum: recent mini-series with Nicole Kidman and Reese Weatherspoon and two other women I've forgotten the names of - Big Little Lies, I think? Mom-tastic, but staying just this side of patronizing. Also stars one of the Skarsgaards, which helps Grin

All films by Almodovar! You were on to a good thing there OP, I loved Julieta

user1498662042 · 12/07/2017 14:03

'Monster'. I tend to find 'bad' characters more interesting.

Tilapia · 12/07/2017 14:12

Florence Foster Jenkins is good fun.

Chaotica · 12/07/2017 14:18

The Last Seduction

Three Colours Red
Three Colours Blue
(Can't remember about Three Colours White.)

At 5 in the Afternoon (by Samira Makhmalbaf, 2003, about Afghanistan)

bambambini · 12/07/2017 14:30

There's a movie on telly right now about Florence Nightingale - starring Jaclyn Smith of course 😬

blueskyinmarch · 12/07/2017 14:39

You need to watch Certain Women. It is about three women in the north west of America whose lives intersect. It is fantastic.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 12/07/2017 19:58

Lowering the highbrow tone a tad but Ghostbusters blew my kids' minds a bit; they were wondering where the men had got to.
