Does anyone else, in their masochistic or morbidly curious moments, go on there and look through the comments?

There's a "woman are stronger than men" article today with comments that are entirely predictable but still made me furious.

Most claim that men have created and built everything of worth in the world and this proves their superiority. These people genuinely seem to believe the horseshit they're coming out with. I know the Mail is wank but it still appeals to a lot of people. Makes me absolutely despair if this is what most men are secretly thinking.
I feel like we need to start having sex studies in school to explain why everything the kids are learning centres men so we don't just repeat this shit down the generations. Grr.

I remember once I went on the Mail and reminded the knuckle-draggers there that, despite women being barred from university, not allowed to patent inventions in their own name and being horrifically and financially oppressed, they STILL managed to invent some incredible things. I had apoplectic and goggle-eyed men screaming at me for daring to suggest women were the equal of men (better a lot of the time).

My own personal fave NoLove is Hedy Lamarr. Her life story is so utterly inspiring and her inventions were used in the war to defeat the Nazis. They are incorporated into the Wifi systems we use today! All this while being a famous Hollywood actress and great beauty. Which I think shows the depth of her, the layers she had. I love her.

NoLoveofMine · 21/06/2017 18:33

Very well put LastGirl.

Hedy Lemarr is indeed magnificent! There are so many fantastic women it's difficult to choose but she is most certainly inspiring. So many discoveries and inventions by women are intrinsic to so much we take for granted today and she is a fantastic example of this Grin

M0stlyBowlingHedgehog · 21/06/2017 18:45

Another Hedy Lamarr fan here!

But I agree that there's something particularly creepy about the left-wing under-the-radar misogynist. The sort who's all "well of course I respect women..." until you point out anything which cuts at their male privilege in the slightest. I remember getting totally slagged off by that little toe-rag Ally Fogg (he used to be one of their regular columnists who also used to spend half his life posting BTL) on the Guardian site for suggesting that the "women can't have it all" bullshit was something more than just existential "no-one of either sex gets to have the moon on a stick", and was in fact deeply gendered and misogynistic, because all sorts of assumptions get made about working mothers which never even get asked about working fathers. But no, apparently men face all the same issues regarding work-life balance and it's reverse sexism to suggest otherwise. Like I said, toe-rag.

M0stlyBowlingHedgehog · 21/06/2017 19:16

ha ha I'm not alone in my views re. St. Ally

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 21/06/2017 19:33

Could it be that violence towards women is more acceptable than an unwillingness for women to accept their subordination?

This really stood out to me in that excellent blog, Hedgehog. Men who blow their own ridiculous male trumpets and shoot down feminists on sites like the Daily Men are angry because we don't accept the subordination they want to keep opposing upon us.

Well, they can do one!! Toe rags indeed!! (I love that term - it reminds me of my dad who used t all the time to describe disgusting men...and who told his five daughters we could do anything and be anything).

PoochSmooch · 21/06/2017 20:23

Ally Fogg is my absolute poster child for the misogynist in lefty dudebro clothing. His type are the worst - at least with the out-and-out woman haters you know where you are, but shitweasels like this are a trickier proposition. It all sounds so reasonable on the surface, and he's just saying, and its' like you don't even really believe in equality

Krispiesquare · 21/06/2017 20:31

I once got the most downvoted comment on an article about Syrian child refugees and an absolute torrent of abuse for saying that I'd love to take one in Confused

OublietteBravo · 21/06/2017 20:41

I wonder how many of those inventions were protected by patents that were drafted by female patent attorneys (there are a lot of us around). It's often how the invention is explained that really matters.

scallopsrgreat · 21/06/2017 21:11

Good blog post Hedghog. Thanks for that.

Collidascope · 21/06/2017 22:33

I don't think I've ever read any Ally Fogg. That'll have to be tomorrow's task to get me too angry to work.

Men who blow their own ridiculous male trumpets and shoot down feminists on sites like the Daily Men are angry because we don't accept the subordination they want to keep opposing upon us.

Yes, definitely. So many comments start off with, 'well, they wanted equal rights!!!' to justify a woman getting punched or sold down the river when it comes to a divorce settlement. So many seem barely to be able to contain their rage that women didn't feel being dominated and used was all they were fit for.

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 21/06/2017 22:57

That's exactly it, Scope! That phrase they use..'Well, you wanted equal rights...' STINKS!!

We ARE equal!! Of course we want equal rights!! Confused how stupid are men, that they can't see that?

shinynewusername · 21/06/2017 23:38

I think it is scary the way the internet and social media feed misogyny. Obviously misogyny started in the garden of Eden Wink but, until the last 20 years, most normal men were not exposed to the ideas of men's rights activists, trans activists or violent porn. Yes, they grew up with male privilege and no doubt reinforced each other's sexist views at work or down the pub etc, but I can't believe most blokes spent much time discussing their hatred of feminism.

Now boys see abusive porn from their early teens (or earlier Sad ) and social media/the web are suffused with violent hatred of women. And women can't even talk about it because now that's transphobic Hmm

Ally Fogg is indeed an arse. 'Cis females.' FFS.

YY. He just loves the transagenda as it alllows him to criticise and bully women with impunity.

ThanksMsMay · 22/06/2017 19:54

However do the post while down the mine. And surprisingly good wifi connection on their oil rigs and all while dodging bullets!!

ThanksMsMay · 22/06/2017 19:58

I wonder what the women who marry these men think when they hear this. I know some women are as sexist in their views but to look at your partner and know he thinks you're an idiot must kill you.
