It’s still not easy being a trans child (Guardian article)

www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2017/jun/05/trans-child-schools-help-transition-prejudice

It's full of the usual BS, along with the usual amount of deleted comments... Is the Guardian ever going to publish the other side of this debate?

"The world has changed in the 30 years since I learned that the third of our four children wished to transition. She had been registered as male at birth and had given no indication that she identified as a girl, or so I thought. Hindsight is a wonderful thing; the signs were there. I had missed them."
Problem is, she doesn't say what the signs were...

"Pre-pubertal children do not need medical intervention, but they do need their identities, and their chosen names and pronouns, to be respected, and to be allowed to dress according to their gender identity, rather than their assigned sex. "
Again, using gender and sex synonymously...

I really need to stop reading this shite!

I have to work but how can they write this, and how can teachers who in other cases teach critical thinking, teach this:

It is important we don’t simply use “sex” because of the vagueness of the definition of sex and its place in transphobia

and then

Gender Identity: One’s internal sense of being male, female, neither of these, both, or another gender(s). Everyone has a gender identity, including you

and don't even get me started on

There are other genders besides male and female and not all cultures operate on a male/female binary (which is mostly a European construct).

At least sex does have a definition (OK, 2 or three depending on which branch of science you're in at the time) - and is widely recognised. 'Gender Identity' has no definition, and just doesn't exist for the vast majority of people I speak to.

chumpchange · 09/06/2017 08:35

jamrock you must be so proud of your DS.

I don't just say that because I agree with his POV, but because of his ability to think critically and apply logic to question what he's being taught.

As for what he's being taught, words fail me Confused

chumpchange · 09/06/2017 08:36

Everyone has a gender identity, including you

They can fuck right off with that one.

Datun · 09/06/2017 12:18

Everyone has a gender identity, including you

So a gender identity is the gender you identify with, right?

And gender is on a spectrum from ultra masculine to ultra feminine, right?

So yet again, they are asking everyone to pick from a range of sex role stereotypes and then label themselves depending on which ones they choose.

And that's progression.

These absolute idiots who think that choosing a range of preferences and then settling yourself nicely into a box with a label listing those preferences is somehow revolutionary and different and a product of independent thinking.

But the best bit, is them then saying but guess what, you can get yourself into a different box tomorrow. Hey presto. So it's not restrictive, no siree. Aren't we clever!

Absolute dunderheads. I'm in embarrassed for them.

SerfTerf · 09/06/2017 12:44

I'm still speechless at the institutional mission creep that led to the CPS supplying schools with highly politicised "educational" packs of gobbledygook about a niche issue.

Terfing · 09/06/2017 13:22

It really is it's own parody! How can any professional take this shit seriously?

OP posts:
Datun · 09/06/2017 13:23

Absolutely serf. And this niche issue has been blown up out of all proportion, celebrated, feted and garnered vast amounts of attention. And then they wonder why kids are confused and attending gender clinics in droves.

Meanwhile any twerp teenage boy can identify as a girl and be granted access to them in a locker room.

It's so backwards it's unbelievable. Who gives a fuck how they identify? They can remain ragingly heterosexual with all those teen hormones pulsing through their veins and some idiot teacher is giving them a key to their naked girl peers.

Sorry, those naked girl bigots.

Well yes datun, it functions as advertising for an extremely niche form of trans-politics, doesn't it? Meanwhile, misogyny flourishes everywhere and CPS can't possibly be unaware of violence against women, so what's the thought process?

Datun · 09/06/2017 21:37

SerfTerf

I think the thought process is they are supporting a minority. They want to be thought of as supportive and inclusive.

I'm not at all sure they saw the subtlety in the document they endorsed. It's easily missed. They are not coming at it from a feminist point of view. We all know once the goggles are off, they're off everywhere. It's as easy to spot as a gravy stain on your T-shirt.

I can't possibly think they saw the bias and ignored it. Surely not.

Datun · 09/06/2017 21:37

That sounded like sarcasm, it wasn't.

SerfTerf · 09/06/2017 22:39

I'm not at all sure they saw the subtlety in the document they endorsed. It's easily missed.

Well I suppose they would. It's not their area of expertise. Or their remit

Italiangreyhound · 09/06/2017 23:11

Jam "My DS pointed out that in fact transgender hate crime, like all violent crime, is almost always carried out by male perpetrators and asked why the information only showed girls. They had no answer."

Well done to your son. Thanks

" I complained and was told they would review the content." Well done to you. Thanks

Italiangreyhound · 09/06/2017 23:50

Jigggly "
Underneath that unicorn it says: "Biological sex is an ambiguous word that has no scale and no meaning besides that it is related to some sex characteristics."

How can anyone actually write that and believe it to be true? It's crackers"

I was just thinking that.

Is the use of a mythical creature a secret signal that this is largely bollocks!

Terfing · 10/06/2017 01:16

Why can't the Daily Mail steal this thread? Why do they lift the boring 'my MIL looked at my baby...' threads!

OP posts:
SerfTerf · 10/06/2017 01:23

They're more fond of first person RL dilemmas and such.

An AIBU outburst from someone whose DC had been fed this drivel in school would be handy.

venusinscorpio · 10/06/2017 19:54

Exactly. Jam? Ask your son if he wants to do a DM sadface Grin

Only joking (a bit!) your DS is ace. Love his attitude to this.
