Trans women want to attend a female-only gaming tournament, tournament organisers are horrendous awful bigots for wanting them to confirm their legal gender in an attempt to protect the tournament from getting trolled by men.

I love gaming and always have and while there are some fantastic men who love it when someone else shares their hobby, far too many male gamers are extremely hostile to female gamers.

These trans women were not told they were not women or could not attend, the organisers just wanted to be clear that they had taken the steps to change their legal gender. How horrible, how bigoted.

That said, it's still an interesting discussion point, as we know full well that trans women have shut down several women-only festivals and events because they were not welcome to attend (whether they were actually banned or just felt unwelcome) and there was also the trans woman who sued a waxing salon in Australia because the waxer couldn't do a pubic hair wax because she wasn't trained in waxing male bodies and hadn't been alerted to the fact the trans woman had a
fully intact male body beforehand. That one in particular was ridiculous for several reasons.

Anyway, some good discussion here. I was going to discuss my view when I had time but as it's a hoax (seriously, what a weird hoax!), I'll refrain. We can wait for the next news story like this that is actually true ;)

Which all rather reinforces the point - how are we, as women, supposed to tell the difference between genuine trans and misogynistic blokes pretending to be trans for shits'n'giggles as in this case (or more sinister motives)? Answer: we can't. But of course the trans activists tell us men would never take advantage of self-identification to pretend to be trans to get into women's spaces, oh no, that would just never happen, ever...

In an odd way I'm glad this was simply trolls trying to get into a gaming convention rather than sexual predators trying to get into a women's refuge.

Ugh the comments on that article are horrendous. Bookmarked to annoy myself a little more tomorrow but the first ones that have came up...just awful. I seriously cannot believe anyone actually believes the bollocks they write. Science is proving that transwomen actually are women also apparently and this is why trans rights are a hot topic...just...what?!

Well there's a big surprise. I shall add that to my growing list of examples for all those people who whine that no man would ever pretend to be transgender just to access women only spaces.

Except it appears from that article that it is having the opposite effect.

Instead of highlighting how men posing as women are an issue, it is saying that their acceptance policy needs to be changed, so they don't make that mistake with transwomen in the future.

I can see actually increasing the number of transwomen who want to participate.

Partly because the competition profile has now been raised and partly because they can score a political/public point with little push back.

WankingMonkey, not all of us in the medical and scientific professions have accepted the transactivist view. I'm a biomedical scientist who runs a lot of clinical trials and I CANNOT have a male person on a trial involving female people (and vice versa) no matter how much I'm upsetting people or denying their identity. They will confound my results and the trial will have been useless. Yes, a lot of trans people accept what their biological sex is and don't try to deny it, but so many have gone wild with the 'biological sex is also a social construct' and 'penises and XY chromosomes have nothing to do with being biologically male' stance. Males and females respond to different drugs differently and experience conditions differently. It's a fact. It's biology, not bigotry.

I really can't say too much about it and get into specifics, but I know a gynaecologist who a transwoman is doing their darndest to get them in trouble for not seeing 'her'. For a condition that is generally not treated by GYNAEcologists because they specialise in FEMALE anatomy not MALE. But no, this person's penis is female so medical specialties be darned.
