So, hold-your-nose on feminism and vote for who?
As there is not a single actual feminist option out there... :(

Shipleys feminists are really happy about it...

They really want Phil Davies out, and don't think splitting the vote against him is a great idea.

Beyond

OUCH that must sting the WEP. I do with they would fuck off, they have been nothing but a joke since the day they appeared.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 24/04/2017 11:27

Wow, so it sounds from that like WEP haven't discussed with local activists first. Not good.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 24/04/2017 12:37

And not surprising.

Every time they come on here they make themselves look worse and they seem to have no awareness of that because they just come back and do it again.

If they pay that little attention to what we think, why would they care what Shipley feminists think?

OneFlewOverTheDodosNest · 24/04/2017 15:17

That's interesting Beyond I listened to Sophie on R4 this morning and she was quite convinced that the WEP had been asked to come in by local Shipley residents. Funny how that's not the story everyone else is telling...

She was also surprisingly weak on really simple questions about why violence against women and girls must be considered separately to all violence (not a single mention of biological reality meaning that women get more seriously injured plus the risk of pregnancy etc)

BeyondUser24601 · 24/04/2017 15:21

She wasn't too convincing on Victoria live this morning either.
Cant mention biological reality oneflew, that's transphobic (in the eyes of wep, not mine!!) Does make it kinda hard to explain why VAWG needs to be considered seperately...

The funny thing is that I've read a few comments from the hard left pro Corbyn Labour contingent saying that they consider them TERFs and SWERFs. So for all that alienating of us and distancing themselves from our views, the "centre everyone except women" message doesn't seem to have got through.

Anlaf · 28/04/2017 12:13

Ello.

So the WEP have announced 4 more GE candidates, and are up against.... no Conservative incumbents. They've also fielded a candidate against Kate Hoey (Lab) in Vauxhall, where the Lid Dems look like they could unseat her (big Brexiteer, huge 2015 majority, but in very pro-remain area)

twitter.com/WEP_UK/status/857855085027614720

I am quite pro the WEP standing candidates in general, as it might concentrate the minds of the other constituency candidates on women's issues. I imagine they have no real expectation of winning any of these seats. But I think this election might not be one to fuck about with, and this feels a bit, er, aimless? Am I being unfair? Does anyone know what they actually want to achieve from this?

(Incidentally, that inews article linked to in the tweet is all gender, gender, gender, apart from one Philip Davies, who mentions sex. God help us).

Will declare my interest - am ex-WEP member and new LD member and will vote LD. Also plan to propose less ludicrous "sex work" policy next LD conference.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 28/04/2017 12:21

Why on earth would they stand against Kate Hoey?
WEP should be renamed the Divide and conquer party Hmm

Anlaf · 28/04/2017 12:27

Well

WEP said Ms Iyengar is standing to offer a “meaningful alternative” to “the choice between Kate Hoey’s damaging narrative on Brexit in a Remain area and the politics as usual of the white man, Lib Dem candidate”.

Maybe they'll pick up some Con voters with that plan, and Lib Dems will be victorious? or Kate Hoey will win oh super

Maybe they plan to withdraw later if the other candidates sign up to work for women's issues?

Fucked if I know. Read this and no clearer

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 28/04/2017 18:00

White man Lib Dem candidate? Are they assuming his gender???

independentthinker21 · 28/04/2017 18:17

Frankly, it will make fuck all difference as politics is now little but a charade - a reality TV show. Rather than a radical departure from the norm, Trump is just an extreme, grotesque manifestation of this postmodern politics. All this crap about the 'Westminster elite' totally missed the point. Politicians are no longer the elite, no matter how much they like to kid themselves that they have power. The real elite are the financiers, the property magnates, the tech giants, the CEO's of Serco and Capita. Politicians just simulate authority. Behind that simulation is vast, brutal corporate power that is impervious to any electoral process.

Anlaf · 28/04/2017 18:31

Are they assuming his gender???

WHEEZE

But you know actually a very good point. That statement is presumably god knows simultaneously bad in eyes of WEP HQ as it assumes his gender, whilst also being a good statement as it points out he is not a woman.

independentthinker I hope you still vote btw, even if to spoil your ballot. Or one better run for office.

Back to the Greens...

Here's a Facebook video of the lovely Aimee & co-leader Jonathan Bartley releasing their LGBTIQA+ manifesto. Comments are open below.

RaquelGarcia · 28/04/2017 23:22

Wow so given that the leading green candidates are all women (Caroline Lucas, Molly Scott-Cato, Eleanor Field, Vix Lowthion, Natalie Bennett ) I'm genuinely surprised to come on here and find that people feel they're not a feminist party. What are the policies you feel are anti women? Genuine question not being goady.

QuentinSummers · 28/04/2017 23:29

They categorise people as male and non-male which is offensive to many feminists raquel

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 28/04/2017 23:39

Also some of their views on gender identity and transing children are frankly dangerous.

RaquelGarcia · 28/04/2017 23:44

Ooh ouch ok I see that. Thanks.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 29/04/2017 05:21

Wow so given that the leading green candidates are all women (Caroline Lucas, Molly Scott-Cato, Eleanor Field, Vix Lowthion, Natalie Bennett )

Is Natalie Bennet the one who is completely useless , embarrassingly inarticulate and whines a lot about this being pointed out?

The responses to that alphabet soup video are amusing.

ArcheryAnnie · 02/05/2017 15:37

I'm still boggling over the WEP fielding Nimco Ali as a candidate in Hornsey and Wood Green, against Catherine West.

There's plenty of things where I don't agree with Catherine West (mostly on gender, I think) but she's about a thousand percent more feminist than the vast majority of other MPs. The WEP seem to be approving of tactical voting and strategic not-standing, so it seems absolutely mad when they are only fielding 4 candidates to choose Catherine West's constituency as one of them.

And Nimco Ali would make an amazing MP! She's a bit too Tory-lite for my own political outlook, but Westminster would be all the better for her in it nonetheless. But we should have the opportunity of both Nimco and Catherine, not either/or. There must have been other MPs who should have been far higher up the WEP's target lists than that!

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 02/05/2017 17:25

I wonder what Nimco Ali's take would be on female biology being transphobic?

ArcheryAnnie · 03/05/2017 16:15

I dunno, but she's now reiterating her support for Zac Goldsmith, and saying if you have a problem with that then it's "purity politics". Er, no, I don't think refusing to support an idiot rich boy whose campaign was deliberately designed to stir up racial hatred between Hindus and Muslims is "purity politics", thanks.
