Saw this news case today, and am not sure what I think:

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-edinburgh-east-fife-39305042

I feel that it gives the message that it's ok for men not to worry about the age of girls/women they have sex with if they have reasonable grounds to believe they're 16+.

OP posts:
KindDogsTail · 18/03/2017 01:43

Legally it may be fine to have sex with a 16 year old but morally...
Exactly, and not even taking the time to talk to a girl alone at 4 in the morning long enough to find out about her before having sex with her, whatever her age, is a sickening idea too.

I am glad you are speaking up for girls your age IamAmy.

Scallops that is terrible about the 6 yr old boy.

IAmAmy · 18/03/2017 01:46

Thanks KindDogsTail. I imagine the kind of women I'm trying to get through to will just think I'm pathetic, but what I want them to realise is it could very easily be their daughter, whilst they look down on this poor girl. If they only have sons maybe they'll just think all girls are to blame but what can you do.

RJnomore1 · 18/03/2017 01:48

Amy there are some mothers of sons on here who don't think like that.

IAmAmy · 18/03/2017 01:48

Also says a lot about all these vile posters they think a 19 year old man wanting to have sex with a 16 year old GIRL is totally fine, even if she was 16??????? FFS I'm 17 soon and think 15 is too young for a boy I'd go out with, WTF.

AssassinatedBeauty · 18/03/2017 01:51

Amy I have two sons (they're only small yet though) and I wouldn't for a second think anything so appalling about girls.

I have a 12 year old.

IAmAmy · 18/03/2017 01:55

I am so fucking angry.

scallopsrgreat · 18/03/2017 01:55

It is isn't it KindDog. I've got boys around the same age. It hit me quite hard when I saw it earlier. No one is immune to men's excuses to have an orgasm.

RJnomore1 · 18/03/2017 01:56

I can't imagine any of the 12/13 year old first years passing as 16 actually. I'm
More angry with the police here.

IAmAmy · 18/03/2017 01:57

I'm angry with all the supposed mums who are judging the 12 year old girl. Presumably they were once 12 year old girls?

IAmAmy · 18/03/2017 01:59

My dad's a criminal barrister so I am going to challenge him on this when he wakes up tomorrow. I would be willing to bet he won't be all "oh pity the poor man" like most mums on here have been.

Miffer · 18/03/2017 02:02

they think a 19 year old man wanting to have sex with a 16 year old GIRL is totally fine

I have tried to articulate my thoughts on this a couple of times but have had difficulty.

A couple of posters (myself included, sort of) have objected to the idea that women's sexuality would be policed if people had to worry too much about avoiding having sex with kids ensuring the persons correct age. Nobody worries about women having to do the same. When I was 17 I actually accidentally snogged a 15 year old at a party and was fucking mortified. My mates ribbed me mercilessly, this was despite most of use going out with 17/18 year olds when we were the same age.

It's totally fine for a 19 year old man to want to shag a 16 year old girl but it doesn't work vice versa. Obviously I am not saying it doesn't happen but I think it's pretty effectively socialised that women shouldn't be attracted to younger men.

Miffer · 18/03/2017 02:03

Christ that post is badly written, I hope people get the gist. I am sick of writing then deleting because I was unhappy with the content.

IAmAmy · 18/03/2017 02:04

I just know that most mums on here believe that when I was 12 I was tempting and teasing all the poor, innocent men. Lovely! I think I've just given up on feminism reading this thread...

IAmAmy · 18/03/2017 02:05

Actually yeah. Until I read this thread I was a passionate feminist. I read this, saw what mums really think on a supposed feminist board, now I just think fuck it. That's what older women think of girls/women of my age, what's the point.

AssassinatedBeauty · 18/03/2017 02:08

I think you've got the focus of the socialisation the wrong way round. Men and boys are socialised to find even very young girls sexual and sexualised. There's not anywhere near as much emphasis on young men/boys being sexual/sexualised.

Women should also worry that the person they want to have sex with isn't a child. If in doubt then refrain from sex. The same advice as I'd give men.

OP posts:
RJnomore1 · 18/03/2017 02:09

It honestly isn't. Don't give up.

I'm remembering being 20 and getting flack flr coming into a 19yo.

Amy we need people who see it for what it is. Stay strong.

Amy don't give up! Many many women agree with you.

Thanks RJnomore1. I think I'm going to go to bed. It's my 17th birthday on Sunday and I meant to get home and get to bed before my party with chums tomorrow! Smile

Miffer · 18/03/2017 02:12

AssassinatedBeauty

Yeah to the socialisation point AB, but I do think it works the other way too, just to a lesser extent.

Women should also worry that the person they want to have sex with isn't a child. If in doubt then refrain from sex. The same advice as I'd give men.

Indeed but people don't say that do they? That was my point, a 19 year old woman wouldn't want to shag a 16 year old she picked up in a taxi rank. When a man does it that part of the story is just accepted.

OF COURSE a 19 year old man would shag a 16 year old he met 5 minutes ago in a taxi rank! What man wouldn't!?! etc

IAmAmy · 18/03/2017 02:13

Thank you AssassinatedBeauty Smile

DPspottedmyusername · 18/03/2017 02:13

A 12year old should not be having sex

However, this man thought he was having sex with a woman over the age of consent

He genuinely thought this. Many witnesses agree he wasn't wrong to think this.

His name is all over the Internet, in astonished people on here think he deserves this

RJnomore1 · 18/03/2017 02:14

Amy go sleep have a great birthday and I'm slightly embarrassed no very embarrassed to say stay safe xxx
