My MP responded to my email about the Gender Identity Bill

MP's are supporting the bill.

''Dear Baggysmalls'
Thanks for contacting me about the Gender identity Bill

I support the aims of this Bill and believe it represents a positive step for trans rights.
No one in Britain should be discriminated against because of their sexuality or gender identity, and I think the government could do a lot more in this area.
Ignorance is no excuse, and I believe the Government should draw up a new strategy to tackle transgender discrimination and ensure that any outdated laws that do not recognise the needs of trans people are amended.'

Chris Leslie MP.

Fuck him for supporting throwing women under the bus.

MrsSpenserGregson · 13/03/2017 12:36

Jesus Christ

What a joke

Not even a mention of women's rights.

I have had no response from my MP yet. However, he's a Tory and he will no doubt toe the party line too.

What can we DO about this? I will march if I have to.

DJBaggySmalls · 13/03/2017 12:36

I'm really fucking worried its going to get passed now.

Is there a petition we can sign on the government website, worded in a pro-women way, to force parliament to debate this from our point of view, in addition to this horrible anti-women Bill? Can we start one?

MrsSpenserGregson · 13/03/2017 12:46

Yes Bev good idea

MrsSpenserGregson · 13/03/2017 12:48

How about asking MNetters to send a mass tweet to every single MP, presenting our case, and do this daily / hourly if we have to??

CharlieSierra · 13/03/2017 12:51

That's a terrible response. Could you meet him face to face? I would want to engage further and make him address the specific issues raised.

dangermouseisace · 13/03/2017 12:55

For fucks sake.

Nothing about the erosion of women's rights in favour of men then.

Thisisouting · 13/03/2017 12:56

I was trying to get everyone to tweet one article focusing on the debate everyday until the 24th but it's fallen down because no one can agree on a bloody hashtag.

I'm going to do some searching on Twitter find something suitable that's not used and then we can hopefully start a coherent social media campaign

GieryFas · 13/03/2017 12:56

It's possible to book phone calls with MPs, I did once over a local issue. Have you tried that? I'd definitely take notes of the conversation.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 13/03/2017 13:04

Fuck yeah! Because who cares about women??

seafoodeatit · 13/03/2017 13:04

I doubt he even sent that himself.

Terfinator · 13/03/2017 13:08

How bloody rude he was! Is he on Twitter?!?

FishInAWetSuitAndFlippers · 13/03/2017 13:10

Ignorance is no excuse?

If that is the case then why the hell are the majority of MPs and people campaigning for this to go through not only ignorant to the impact this will have on women, but the impact it will have on the very people they say they are trying to protect.

This will do no good to anyone apart from some arseholes who are using it for there 15 minutes of limelight and for all the people who haven't thought it through to congratulate themselves on their liberal thinking Angry

RakingUpBadMemories · 13/03/2017 13:10

Are you going to write back to him and ask him to clarify whether, as his letter suggests, any outdated laws that do not recognise the needs of trans people are amended regardless of any and all cost to other people?

RakingUpBadMemories · 13/03/2017 13:11

Also, have a word with him about the exception being made for inheritance.

MrsSpenserGregson · 13/03/2017 13:16

@thisisouting. How about #erosionofwomen as the hashtag?

MrsSpenserGregson · 13/03/2017 13:19

sorry meant to address that to @Thisisouting. #erosionofwomen or #womenstillmatter or something???

Thisisouting · 13/03/2017 13:19

Ok I've come up with a social media plan using the hashtag #suffregette

See the Twitter thread (I don't know how to link)

I'm going to go to my MPs surgery he voted for the tampon tax and stopping unaccompanied child refugees so you can probably guess which way he's voting.

Pmurt · 13/03/2017 13:23

The Bill cannot become law this year. It was introduced too late in the parliamentary calender. Also it would not have a snow ball's chance in hell of passing through the Lords in its current state.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 13/03/2017 13:24

Let me guess, he's Labour? Leftie boys don't give a shit about women these days - they look after their own.
