Ha Mercy, thank you! An acquaintance, let's call her Sue, is a staunch and opinionated feminist and was talking the other day about the transitioning child of a friend. I couldn't get my head round the fact that she seemed to be really supportive of it all and was pleased how well the school were handling it etc. The child was young (I think post puberty but pre/early teens from memory) and I can't remember which way they were transitioning. Either way, how does this cultural appropriation of women thing fit with being feminist? It strikes me as being entirely non compatible for the reasons previously mentioned. I sort of sat there open mouthed and then tried to change the subject but I feel I need to gather my thoughts for if/when it comes up.

I get so worried when I read things like your friend's experience. A lifetime of medicating, possible sterilising surgery and wholesale denial of reality is not something anyone would recommend.

It's beginning to be seen as something cool, trendy and aspirational. Which is completely at odds with the narrative of how oppressed, victimised and abused trans-people are.
