This is what male posters often do and this is why we might get short with you.
Don't do this and you will be fine.

I threw out my woman card some years ago.

A male friend sat in my kitchen table and told me pretty girls are the ones who really rule the world by manipulating men's desires. I told him he was wrong, but he persisted.

So I played my woman card. I stood up, pointed to my groin and loudly commanded, "MY PUSSY POWER COMPELS YOU TO CONCEDE THAT I AM RIGHT"!

He didn't, so I threw my woman card away. If all the pussy power men imagine attractive women wield couldn't even win me an argument at my kitchen table about pretty girls not secretly operating a global "femme-illuminati", then it was obviously useless.

I was reading about the "surplus male theory". The author was stating that armies and navies existed in order to keep masses of young males from causing problems. But I was thinking that as soon as you build an army you may feel the need to invade something.

Well, yes. That is my theory on why societies that practice polygyny (men owning multiple wives) are more aggressive than societies that have monogamy or where the sexes are equal.
If every man feels entitled to several women, then some men do not get any women. And that will make them very unhappy, as after all, they feel entitled. You then have to get rid of them.
The problem also exists in patriarchal societies with a high rate of death in childbirth, I suppose.
Men feel entitled to own a woman as compensation to the shit they have to put up with in patriarchy. If the patriarchy doesn't pay up, they get angry.

makeourfuture · 13/02/2017 07:09

Well I was reading another study that posited that "raiding parties" were a common feature of almost all early tribal societies. If there was a shortage of females, you raided some other tribe and took theirs.

I got interested in it reading an interview with the guy who wrote The Wire, the television programme about gang culture in Baltimore, USA. He was asked his opinion on what could be done about the situation. He said something along the lines that social programmes helped, but that there also just seemed to be an awful lot of surplus men. Prima facie.

I just scanned these things, but it got me thinking of things like cowboys, explorers, Vikings.... that perhaps up until recently there was an "over flow" for the excess men. I am sure these aren't original thoughts. And it seems like all the examples I could think of had a thread of violence running through them.

Please don't quote me on these bits and bobs.

VikingVolva · 13/02/2017 07:19

This isn't. .temple of feminism.

It's just another board on MN, a big chat site.

No-one died and made you the thread police.

MN has make and female posters.

They can post in any topic, and post what they like.

MNHQ will delete if it breaks talk guidelines.

Just as they will in any topic.

And yes, all topics attract GFs and trolls, even the more sensitive ones. And the more reaction they get, the more they do it.

I think this thread is unnecessarily bossy and wholly counterproductive.

DeviTheGaelet · 13/02/2017 07:31

Ooooh "bossy" eh? Grin

DeviTheGaelet · 13/02/2017 07:32

make your post is very thought provoking

OP posts:
Datun · 13/02/2017 07:46

viking

Why do you think it is counter-productive?

makeourfuture · 13/02/2017 07:47

Well it is of interest. I think, as was mentioned above, that this feeling of deserving things, of measuring ourselves against these culturally constructed ideas of success is more fundamental.

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 13/02/2017 08:00

Wait a minute Angry

I thought devi WAS the thread police

Is viking saying she's not

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 13/02/2017 08:07

Is Temple of Feminism an upcoming Indiana Jones film?

Datun · 13/02/2017 08:08

Devi is the thread please. It's her thread. She can do what she likes with it.

The reason why I, personally like the idea of this thread is that when men do come on and dispute the most basic tenets of feminism (that even I am aware of), it instantly derails - like that chap who was banned who kept wanting to talk about himself.

I'm more than happy to chat to any chap, as long as he's got past the basics.

Datun · 13/02/2017 08:09

*police.

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 13/02/2017 08:10

saskia

Grin

datun oh thank goodness you said, i will go back to brownnosing

Hey devi ...how you doing Wink

Xenophile · 13/02/2017 08:52

Bossy

Goodness.

Do you think we could also manage abrasive, shrill and and hysterical before the 1000?

And Indiana Jones and the Temple of Feminism is a film that needs to be made.

M0stlyBowlingHedgehog · 13/02/2017 10:46

I am now imagining Indiana Jones and the Temple of Feminism.

It would have HF in his prime in his mid thirties, and a bevvy of beautiful feminists only waiting for him to show them the error of his ways (think Pussy Galore's flying circus, only hopefully we could leave out the rape scene this time round Sad Angry...) It would be deeply unfeminist. It would do for feminism what Temple of Doom did for challenging racial and cultural stereotypes.
