They are being attacked by the transactivists for hosting an event featuring 'hateful transphobe' Julie Bindel.

If you have time please go on and give them a review (transwhacktivists are giving them 1 star reviews) - it's great that they are being brave and not backing down on their decision to host Julie.

It's just horrifying that someone who campaigns against violence towards women and girls is being bullied in this way. They also plan to picket the event.

Isn't her welcome (or otherwise) at an LGBT event a matter for the LGBT community rather than straight cis gendered feminists?

AnotherRandomMale I'm not straight, not cis, and not in the slightest bit impressed by men who seem to think it's appropriate to make assumptions about the sexuality of women they don't know. Amazingly enough, I will continue to support the right of a working-class library to invite a working-class lesbian to speak, despite your priceless words of wisdom.

People trying to get a working class library shut down is a matter for everyone who cares about history. Even if they're not working class!
I was very happy to put my money where my mouth is and send a donation.

UPDATE!

I donated to the library back when it was all kicking off, and as a result they send me their lovely newsletter, "Shelf Life". And mumsnet is mentioned in it! As well as a report of the meeting, it's got this lovely note at the end about someone else from mumsnet donating. So if it was you, you made their day!

ArcheryAnnie

That's brilliant. It's a little indistinct, does it say she gave her carer's allowance?

How generous. Very humbling.

Half her carer's allowance, Datun - which is a huge deal and I agree seriously generous!

(It's only a tenner to become a Friend of the library, should anyone fancy it, btw.)
