Mansplaining in Westminster

Just read this article that says that Theresa May is not impressed with the mansplaining she has come across from a few Whitehall mandarins Grin

Yay !

Ellie7878 · 20/11/2016 23:14

Depends what the meeting was about and what it was he was 'mansplaining' to her. If he was telling her that she doesn't have a coherent policy on Brexit and is completely out of her depth, then I'm sorry but he's right.

Pizanfan · 21/11/2016 00:28

Theresa May has said nothing, what are you trying to do with a hack job article like this?

I suspect it all goes back to May having to have a word with Sir Grant, in a boss tells off underling shocker.

Bare in mind this is coming from a prominant 'mansplaining' complainer, mostly in front of cameras or microphones, a women who 'accidentally' ripped off the taxpayer a few times, has attempted to be a celebrity, and vowed to 'work for free' before election, then prominantly started charging the taxpayer for her rent, despite having to repay money for a faulty claim previously.

These garbage claims do nothing but harm our cause!

OlennasWimple · 21/11/2016 00:59

Ha ha, Ellie - doubt it was about Brexit, but you never know

Pizan - agree it's not an example of great journalism (what is, these days?), but tell me more about Jane Mathews (not someone I know much about). I suspect it was a case of the spooks trying to pull the typical secret squirrel "I know something that you don't know" schtick, but if TM called Lyall Grant out on it, good for her.

I don't think it does her reputation - or women in general - any harm to have a "don't try to patronise her / me" reputation...

Sorry, last sentence didn't make any sense (children squabbling...)

Sorry, I don't think my post was that clear, I wasn't talking about Matthews, I was talking about Nadine 'I swear I won't steal your money but probably will while trying to become a celebrity by throwing myself in front of every camera I see' Dorries.

I agree having a strong female leader is good, but the jury is out on TM (although I like the start she's made), and lets be honest the last strong female leader was hardly good for the people was she!

OlennasWimple · 21/11/2016 02:26

Oh yeah, TBH I was trying to ignore ND Grin

The way it works in this country is that we can only tolerate a women PM if she's right-wing (and probably the same elsewhere too: no doubt Ann Coulter or Sarah Palin would have done a lot better than Clinton).

People forget about May's billboard vans telling immigrants to go home. Even by Tory standards they were disgusting.

The only Tories I can remotely stomach at the mo are Anna Soubry, David Lammy and Philip Hammond. The rest are fucking horrors.

domesticslattern · 21/11/2016 18:06

David Lammy???

OlennasWimple · 21/11/2016 18:10

I'm trying to think of a left wing female politician who has come even close to being PM... Anyone?

(You need to google David Lammy, Ellie.....)

OP posts:
Ellie7878 · 21/11/2016 18:16

Only because he's speaking out against the populist right and Brexit. I am aware of his legacy. I do hate all Tories, and am being ultra-charitable here.

OlennasWimple · 21/11/2016 18:26

Do you mean David Lammy (Labour MP for Tottenham since 2000)? Or someone else?

OP posts:
Ellie7878 · 21/11/2016 18:31

Yes. As I said I can only 'remotely' stomach him at the mo because he's a staunch Remainer. That is as far as it goes.

There are no admirable Tories. Not since - at a push - Harold MacMillan.

OlennasWimple · 21/11/2016 18:32

You said The only Tories I can remotely stomach at the mo are Anna Soubry, David Lammy and Philip Hammond., suggesting you thought DL is a Tory MP. Which was confusing, as he is a Labour MP

OP posts:
YokoUhOh · 21/11/2016 18:33

Ellie he's a Labour MP

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 21/11/2016 18:35

David Lammy is a Labour MP. I assume Ellie is confusing him with Adam Afriyie or Kwasi Kwarteng.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 21/11/2016 18:40

Although both of them were leavers.

Ellie7878 · 21/11/2016 18:41

I totally, totally stand corrected. I thought he was a Tory for some reason!

Excuse my ignorance.

YonicProbe · 21/11/2016 19:02

Cherie Blair, Oleanna?

Grin

Margaret Beckett was deputy leader for a,while and temporary leader between smith and Blair.

Yvette cooper? Angela Eagle?

TigersOfAlexpolis · 21/11/2016 20:35

I cant believe no one has mentioned Nicola Sturgeon.

A prominent female politician who is not a Tory.

First Minister of Scotland.

I would vote for her. Apart from the small matter of not being Scottish. And not voting in the UK.

MysticTwat · 21/11/2016 20:41

Sure I read somewhere that Nicola Sturgeon, is /would like to bring in abortion laws like NI.

Just for that I wouldn't vote for her.

MysticTwat · 21/11/2016 20:44

Just googled it and 4 days ago news says quiet tge opposite!

Its was good few months ago, whatever I read.

But glad to read tge new headlines

MysticTwat · 21/11/2016 20:44

The! Ffs

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 21/11/2016 20:47

I would vote for her. Apart from the small matter of not being Scottish. And not voting in the UK

I can vote for her- the only circumstances I would vote for her would be if the only other candidates were UKIP, BNP or another manifestation of Tommy Sheridan's bonkers Scottish socialist party.

OlennasWimple · 21/11/2016 21:32

Margaret was temporary leader because she knew it would be temporary, IYSWIM. I don't think she stood for leader , or wanted the PM job.

Yvette Cooper and Angela Eagle have the misfortune of being towards the top of the pile at a time when the Labour party is so far away from being in power it's almost laughable. (Though I hope that Yvette Cooper will lay low and try to be leader and thence PM in the future)

Nicola Sturgeon couldn't ever be PM, as she would explode in a paroxysm of contradictions by being the leader of a united country that she is fighting to separate Grin
